The precise route comes from a Google Chrome Community Product Expert reply, so labels and availability can vary by Chrome version and device; Google’s official Android help confirms fingerprint or passcode checks may be required for password sign-in but does not document this exact switch.
Turn on verification for saved-password autofill

Open the Chrome app on your Android phone.

Tap More (the three-dot menu), then tap Settings.

Tap Passwords. Depending on the app version, this area may instead be reached through Google Password Manager.

Tap Autofill with Google.

Turn on Use biometric authentication and complete any on-screen verification prompt.
The menu path and the claim that Chrome will request a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN before filling are described in a Google Chrome Community thread dated May 31–June 3, 2025. Google notes that community answers may be unverified or outdated, so wording and behavior can differ across versions. See the community discussion.

If the biometric option is missing
Check which autofill provider Android is using. Android can use Google or another provider, and Chrome may rely on a different password manager for autofill. Google’s Android Chrome help explains password autofill and provider choice, but does not list the specific switch above. Google’s Chrome help for Android passwords and Android’s autofill-provider settings guidance provide related information. Menu wording may also vary by device and app version.
Do not confuse password autofill with passkeys or payment cards

Passkeys: Passkeys are a separate passwordless sign-in method. Google says Google Password Manager passkeys on Android use device screen-lock security, which can include a fingerprint, face, or PIN. That is not the saved-password autofill switch. Google’s passkey guidance for Android.

Payment cards: Chrome’s Payment methods > Screen lock setting applies to card autofill, not saved passwords. Google’s payment-methods help.

These instructions are for Chrome on Android. Desktop Chrome has separate Windows Hello and Mac screen-lock controls; those settings do not apply to Android. Google’s desktop Chrome password guidance.
