Windows 10’s built-in blue-light filter is called Night light. Turn it on at Start > Settings > System > Display, then adjust its warmth or set it to run automatically. Microsoft describes Night light as making evening colors warmer and reducing the glare of white backgrounds; this is a display adjustment, not proof that it prevents or treats eye strain.
Turn on Night light in Windows 10
- Select Start > Settings > System > Display.
- Switch on Night light.
For a faster manual toggle, select the Network or Speakers icon on the taskbar, scroll through the quick actions, and select Night light. Microsoft’s instructions are at Set your display for night time in Windows 10.
Adjust how warm the screen looks
Open Start > Settings > System > Display > Night light settings and move the Strength slider. A stronger setting shifts colors further toward warm tones; the display may look tan, yellow, orange, or red. Increase the strength gradually and check that text and images remain comfortable to read.
Schedule Night light
In Night light settings, turn on Schedule night light. Choose the option that suits your routine:

- Set hours: Enter the start and end times you want.
If the schedule runs at an unexpected time, check the clock and time zone at Settings > Time & language > Date & time. Microsoft’s scheduling guidance is included in its Night light instructions.
What to check if Night light is unavailable
If the Night light control is missing or grayed out, the display driver may not support it. Microsoft identifies certain drivers, including DisplayLink and Basic Display, as cases where Night light is unavailable, and advises checking for an updated display driver. Keep color and readability in mind
Night light changes the display’s color temperature, so colors no longer appear as they do with the feature off. On some HDR displays, colors may look oversaturated or red, and content can become difficult to read. Reduce Strength or turn Night light off if that happens. For color-critical work, check the display with Night light disabled. Microsoft discusses this behavior in its Windows 10 vision accessibility guidance.
