Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You can turn old videos into a 24/7 YouTube Live broadcast by playing a local video or playlist through an encoder such as OBS and sending that feed to YouTube Live. In OBS, enable Loop on a Media Source for one file, or Loop Playlist on a VLC Video source for multiple files. YouTube must allow livestreaming on your channel, and you must have the rights to everything in the broadcast.
Before you start: check channel access and content rights
Make sure the channel can livestream
YouTube’s getting-started guidance says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Initial livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, and the minimum age in that guidance is 16. If livestreaming is not available, check channel verification and restrictions first, then allow time for activation.
Clear every part of the video for a new live use
Having previously uploaded a video does not automatically clear it for rebroadcast. Check rights for the footage, music, images, clips, and other third-party material in every file. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party matches, including copyrighted content. A licensed work may still be interrupted unless the rights holder allowlists your channel.
Looping changes how the video is played; it does not change copyright permissions or YouTube’s rules. Do not use this workflow to rebroadcast material you do not have the necessary rights to stream.

Set up a 24/7 stream in OBS
1. Prepare the video or playlist
- Choose a supported local video file, or gather the files you want to play as a playlist.
- For one file, open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene. Select the video file and turn on Loop.
- For multiple files, add a VLC Video source, select the files for the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source type.
- Preview the scene and confirm that both video and audio play as expected. Check that the end of a clip transitions acceptably into the next playback or playlist item.
2. Get YouTube’s stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a stream, then copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream.
- In OBS, open Settings and select Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream URL and key if the configuration asks for them.
- Treat the stream key like a password: it lets an encoder send a feed to your channel. Do not share it publicly; if it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube before continuing.
3. Preview, test, and go live
- Start streaming from OBS and check the preview in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled event.
- Check picture, audio levels, and playback continuity. YouTube recommends testing the encoder and network and having upload bandwidth at least 20% above the stream bitrate.
- When the preview is stable, start the broadcast in Live Control Room if YouTube is waiting for you to begin the event. Keep OBS and the internet connection running for as long as you want the local broadcast to continue.
OBS’s documented Media Source control repeats the file after playback completes. A playlist keeps the broadcast supplied with successive files, but it does not remove the need to monitor the encoder, computer, network, and YouTube Live status.
Keep the broadcast running and preserve a replay
Local operation requires an available computer and connection
With OBS running locally, the computer, OBS, and network connection all need to remain available. A shutdown, sleep state, software failure, or lost connection can interrupt the feed. Test the full setup before relying on it for a long broadcast, and monitor Live Control Room for interruptions.

Do not rely on YouTube to archive a full 24/7 broadcast
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a complete replay, plan a local recording or separate shorter broadcasts and retain your own archive. A single continuous 24/7 stream is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube replay.
Choose a way to keep YouTube Live running
For a local do-it-yourself setup, OBS gives you direct control over scenes and encoder settings, but the computer and connection must stay on. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; its current pricing, feature limits, uptime, and partner terms are not established here.

Troubleshooting common interruptions
The channel cannot start a livestream
Confirm that the channel is verified and has no livestream restriction in the previous 90 days. If livestreaming was just enabled, activation can take up to 24 hours.
YouTube does not receive the OBS feed
Check that the stream URL and key in OBS match the current stream in Live Control Room. Confirm the stream is active in OBS and that the network is connected. If the key was exposed, reset it and update OBS with the new one.

The stream stutters or drops
Check the connection and available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the stream bitrate. Reduce the stream bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, then retest the preview and stability before leaving the broadcast unattended.
The video stops or the playlist does not advance
For a single file, verify that the source is a Media Source and Loop is enabled. For multiple files, verify that you are using a VLC Video source, VLC is installed, the intended files are in the playlist, and Loop Playlist is enabled.
The live stream is interrupted by a copyright match
Review the video’s music, footage, and other third-party material, and confirm that your permissions cover live rebroadcast. YouTube scans live streams for matches; a prior upload or a license that does not include live use may not prevent interruption. Ask the rights holder about allowlisting where appropriate.
