Marvel Rivals treats voice chat, typed chat, and pings as separate communication systems. To silence teammates completely, turn off Settings > Audio > Voice Chat, enable Settings > Keyboard and Controller > Communications > Hide Chat (or the equivalent Social or channel controls), and then review Communications, Ping, or Battle Communication settings independently. A voice toggle does not automatically hide text or disable pings.
What you need to change
There is no single universal “mute all communication” switch that is guaranteed to cover every Marvel Rivals build and platform. The reliable approach is channel-by-channel:
- Voice: Disable Voice Chat in the Audio settings.
- Text: Enable Hide Chat, or restrict individual chat channels through Communications, Social, or channel-permission controls.
- Pings and quick callouts: Inspect the separate Ping, Communications, or Battle Communication controls. These signals can remain visible or audible after voice and text are disabled.
Exact labels can move after a patch and can differ between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. If a label in the steps below is not present, look for the equivalent term under Audio, Communications, Social, Chat, Ping, or Battle Communication rather than assuming the feature has been removed.
How to turn off voice chat
Disable the in-game voice channel
- Open Marvel Rivals and select the gear-shaped Settings button from the main menu. You can also open Settings from the in-match menu.
- Choose Audio.
- Find Voice Chat and switch it off.
- Leave the menu normally so the setting is applied. If your build presents an Apply button, select it before returning to the game.
This setting disables the game’s voice-chat channel. It is different from muting a headset microphone, lowering the console’s party-chat volume, or pressing a hardware mute button. Those device or operating-system controls can be useful emergency fallbacks, but they do not change Marvel Rivals’ communication permissions or hide typed chat and pings.

If you only want to stop hearing one player
A global Voice Chat switch is broader than a player-specific mute. When the current build offers a player list or scoreboard mute action, use that for a single disruptive teammate so you retain useful callouts from everyone else. A player mute is normally temporary or match-specific; the Audio setting is the better choice when you want voice disabled by default.
Voice chat still audible after the toggle
- Check that the change was saved after leaving the Audio page.
- Confirm the sound is not coming from a console party, Discord, or another system-level voice channel.
- Reopen Audio after joining a new match to verify that Voice Chat remains off.
- Use the console’s party controls or a headset mute button as a separate fallback if the audio source is outside the game.
How to hide text chat
Use Hide Chat
- Open Settings from the main menu or an in-match menu.
- Open Keyboard and Controller, or the equivalent controls page shown by your platform.
- Open Communications.
- Enable Hide Chat.
- Return to the match and verify that the chat panel and incoming typed messages are no longer displayed.
On some builds, the same controls appear under Social or as separate chat-channel permissions. If you do not see Hide Chat, set unwanted channels or recipient groups to the most restrictive option available. The wording may be different, but the goal is to remove the incoming and outgoing typed-chat display or access without changing unrelated gameplay controls.
Hide everything or filter only certain words
Hide Chat is an all-or-nothing display choice when it is available. It removes useful typed information along with unwanted messages. Marvel Rivals also provides Custom Muted Words, which is a narrower option when you want to keep ordinary team text but filter selected terms. The official Season 3.5 notes state: “Players can now set up their own defenses against words they’d rather not see in chat. If a message contains a muted word, it will be filtered out.” Add the words you do not want displayed, save the list, and test it in a low-stakes match.

- Incoming messages: Hide Chat or a restrictive channel permission should prevent the chat window from showing messages sent by other players.
- Outgoing messages: Depending on the build, the same control may also prevent you from sending typed messages, or it may only hide what you see. Check the current behavior after changing it.
- System notices: Match objectives, elimination notices, and other HUD notifications are not necessarily chat. Hiding chat will not remove every text element on the screen.
- Pings: A ping is a separate team signal and can remain visible even when the chat panel is hidden.
How to disable pings and quick callouts
Find the separate ping controls
- Open Settings.
- Look for Communications, Ping, or Battle Communication. Depending on the build, this may be inside Keyboard and Controller or a platform-specific controls page.
- Review options for ping audio, ping notifications, quick callouts, or communication-wheel actions.
- Disable or mute each ping option you do not want. If the page offers separate visual and audio choices, change both for a silent and invisible result.
- Apply the changes, then test them in Practice or a low-stakes match.
There is no evidence of one universal ping switch that behaves identically on every platform and build. Some versions expose a master communications control; others separate the sound, on-screen marker, and quick-callout actions. Disable every relevant entry that your version exposes rather than relying on the Voice Chat or Hide Chat setting.

Can you keep useful pings while silencing spam?
When the current interface offers independent audio, display, or action settings, keep the visual marker and disable only ping sounds, or leave teammate pings enabled while removing your own quick-callout bindings. If your build provides only a single ping control, the choice is broader: preserving strategic information also preserves distracting signals. Check the result in a practice area because a setting that mutes sound may not remove the marker from the HUD.

The table separates scope, reversibility, and information loss so you can choose the smallest change that solves the problem. A global setting is usually persistent until you reverse it; a player-list mute is generally a temporary match action.
Complete “quiet match” setup
Use this sequence if you want no voice, typed chat, or ping interruptions before queueing:
- In Audio, turn Voice Chat off.
- In Keyboard and Controller > Communications, turn Hide Chat on, or restrict the available chat channels through Social controls.
- Open Communications, Ping, or Battle Communication and disable every ping sound, notification, marker, and quick-callout option that your build lists.
- Leave Settings and confirm the changes persisted by reopening each page.
- Enter Practice or another low-stakes environment. Watch for a chat panel, listen for a ping tone, and check whether a test ping creates a HUD marker.
- If any signal remains, identify its channel first. A remaining voice sound points to an in-game or system voice source; a remaining text box points to chat-channel controls; a marker or chime points to Ping or Battle Communication.
Testing matters because a menu can contain separate switches for the sound, the visual notification, and the ability to send a signal. Turning off only one of those can look like a failed setting even though it worked exactly as designed.

Platform notes for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox
PC
Use the in-game gear menu and inspect Keyboard and Controller even if you play with a mouse and keyboard. The page name describes the control category, not necessarily the device you are holding. If voice continues after Voice Chat is off, check whether a separate desktop voice application is producing the sound and mute that application independently.
PlayStation
Open the in-game Settings menu first. Console party chat is separate from Marvel Rivals’ Voice Chat, so a party can remain audible after the game channel is disabled. Conversely, leaving a party does not hide the game’s typed chat or pings. Use the in-game Communications and Ping pages for those channels.
Xbox
Apply the same channel-by-channel process in the game. Xbox party communication is a separate system path, while Marvel Rivals voice, text, and pings are controlled in their respective in-game pages. If only one type of sound remains, return to the page associated with that channel instead of changing every console audio setting.
These platform notes describe the separation between game and system communication; they do not establish identical labels or menu positions for every regional release or patch.

Why you still see pings after turning off chat
Chat and pings use different systems
Hide Chat controls typed messages. Voice Chat controls spoken communication. Pings and quick callouts are team signals handled through a separate communication path. Therefore, seeing a location marker or hearing a ping tone after hiding chat is expected until the Ping or Battle Communication settings are changed.
You disabled audio but not the visual marker
Some builds separate ping audio from the on-screen indicator. If the chime is gone but the marker remains, look for a display, notification, HUD, or marker option in the same Communications area. If the marker is gone but a sound remains, look for a ping-volume or ping-audio option.
A teammate is using a quick callout, not typed chat
Quick callouts can look like short text notices while traveling through the ping system. Treat them as pings for troubleshooting and review Battle Communication controls rather than changing Hide Chat again.

Reporting is separate from muting
Muting or hiding communication changes what you personally hear or see; it does not report the sender or create a moderation case. The official Marvel Rivals Text and Voice Chat Moderation Guidelines dated October 10, 2026, describe a process combining automated detection, player reports, and manual review for text and voice communications. Reports can be submitted during or immediately after a match, and chat or voice bans can last up to 365 days.
If a message or voice interaction violates the game’s rules, use the in-game report action even after hiding or muting the channel. Do not treat a personal display setting as a substitute for reporting prohibited speech. Conversely, a report does not automatically hide future messages; use the relevant mute or Hide Chat control as well.
Troubleshooting checklist
Voice is still playing
- Recheck Audio > Voice Chat and save the setting.
- Determine whether the sound is from game voice, a console party, or a desktop voice application.
- Mute the external source or hardware only after confirming the in-game channel is off.
Typed messages remain visible
- Confirm Hide Chat is enabled, not merely a chat-window opacity or size option.
- Check Social or individual channel permissions if Hide Chat is absent.
- Distinguish chat from objective and system HUD text, which Hide Chat may not affect.
Pings remain audible or visible
- Open Communications, Ping, or Battle Communication.
- Change both audio and display/notification options if they are separate.
- Test in Practice because a setting may affect incoming pings but not your own quick-callout wheel, or vice versa.
The setting resets between matches
- Reopen the page after leaving the menu to verify that the value was saved.
- Look for an Apply or Confirm action.
- Record the exact label and location in your current build; a patch may have moved the control or introduced a new channel-specific setting.
Choosing the least disruptive mute
Use a narrow control when you still need team information. For example, disable voice while leaving visual pings on if you rely on location markers, or use Custom Muted Words instead of hiding all text when only particular terms are a problem. Use Hide Chat and the full Ping controls when concentration or accessibility needs require a completely quiet HUD.

Reverse the settings from the same pages whenever you want communication back. Because the game treats these channels independently, restoring one channel does not restore the others.
