To stop Prime Video from automatically starting the next episode, turn off Autoplay in Account & Settings > Player in a browser, or in the app under Profile > Settings > Auto Play. The Next Up prompt may remain on screen; turning autoplay off stops automatic playback, not necessarily the prompt.
Turn off autoplay in a browser
- Sign in to Amazon or Prime Video in a web browser.
- Open Account & Settings.
- Select the Player tab.
- Switch Autoplay off for the option to play the next episode automatically. Amazon staff described this route in a December 2025 support response: Amazon support forum.
Turn off autoplay in the mobile app
- Open the Prime Video app and tap your profile icon.
- Tap the settings gear.
- Select Auto Play.
- Switch autoplay off and confirm the setting shows as disabled. Amazon’s regional guide documents this route: Prime Video autoplay guide.
What changes when autoplay is off
Prime Video’s guide says autoplay starts the next episode after the current one ends. Disabling it prevents that automatic start, so the ending or credits can finish before you choose what to watch next. The Next Up tile or prompt may still appear; the next episode waits for you to select it. The setting is about automatic episode playback, and the available guidance does not establish that it removes every trailer, preview, or recommendation.
If you cannot find the setting on a TV
Some television app interfaces may not show a control for automatically starting next episodes. In a December 2025 report, a Google TV user said their app showed autoplay controls for trailers, previews, and live events but not next episodes. An Amazon staff response suggested changing the episode setting in a browser at Account & Settings > Player: Amazon support forum.
- Sign in to the same Amazon account in a browser.
- Open Account & Settings > Player and switch Autoplay off.
- Return to the TV app and check whether episodes still start automatically.
Menu names and available controls can vary by country, device, and app version. The available sources do not establish that the preference synchronizes across every profile and device, so check the relevant account or device if autoplay continues.
