There is no single Xbox switch that removes every AI-generated feature, recommendation, or store suggestion in every game. The controls are divided by scope: Xbox privacy and online-safety settings manage account-level recommendations, individual games may provide their own AI or personalization switches, optional features such as Game assist have separate privacy controls, and Windows 11 has an independent Personalized offers setting for PC users.
Use the steps below to reduce Xbox recommendations, control optional AI features, remove Game assist chat data, and prevent Windows from using Xbox activity for personalized Windows offers. Which controls you see depends on your platform, account type, console or Windows build, and the game itself.
What you can control—and what each control affects
Xbox recommendations are generated from account and service activity, while AI-generated dialogue, hints, images, or other content can be produced by a particular game or an optional Xbox feature. Treating those as one setting leads to the wrong fix. Choose the control that matches the result you want.

Microsoft explains that collected data supports “curated experiences,” including connections to games, content, services, offers, discounts, and recommendations. It also describes optional AI-enhanced Xbox features, including Support Virtual Agents and Game assist. Required diagnostic data and core service operation are separate from optional personalization choices, so turning off recommendations does not make Xbox operate without all telemetry or service data.

Reduce Xbox recommendations on a console or Xbox.com
This is the broadest account-level step for unwanted game suggestions, personalized content, and similar recommendations. It applies to the Microsoft account used for Xbox, not to a controller, headset, or other physical accessory.
1. Sign in to the correct Microsoft account
- Sign in on the console with the account that receives the recommendations, or sign in to Xbox.com with that same Microsoft account.
- If several profiles use the console, repeat the review for each adult account. A setting changed for one profile does not automatically change another profile.
2. Open Xbox privacy and online-safety settings
- On the console, open the Xbox privacy and online-safety settings from the account settings area. On Xbox.com, open the account’s Xbox privacy and online-safety settings after signing in.
- Use the current interface’s customization or review option. Microsoft changes labels and groups over time, so the page may present several panels rather than one “AI” page.
3. Review every personalization-related choice
Inspect all choices whose current labels refer to recommendations, personalization, data sharing, optional data, tailored experiences, offers, or similar uses. Turn off the choices you do not want, then save or confirm each page before leaving it. Do not assume that one privacy category controls every recommendation surface; review all exposed categories.
- Recommendations: disable optional recommendation or tailored-content choices when the interface offers them.
- Personalization: turn off optional use of activity to tailor game or content suggestions.
- Data sharing and optional data: decline optional sharing where available, while distinguishing it from data required for security, diagnostics, multiplayer, or core service delivery.
- Offers and discounts: review any separate choice for personalized offers; it may be grouped independently from game recommendations.
4. Allow the account changes to propagate
Sign out and back in, restart the console, or allow the service time to refresh account settings if old tiles remain. A previously displayed tile may remain in a cache or continue to appear because it is a general store or service placement rather than a personalized recommendation. The setting reduces eligible personalization; it cannot rewrite content that a game or service is required to display.

If the unwanted material appears inside one title—such as generated dialogue, AI opponents, dynamic hints, personalized quests, or a recommendation panel—the game’s settings are the next place to look. Microsoft does not publish a universal inventory of per-game AI toggles, and the presence, name, and effect of a switch are determined by the developer.

Where to look
- Pause the game and open Settings, Options, or Preferences.
- Check Privacy, Accessibility, Online, Account, and Gameplay sections. Some titles put generated content under a parental-control or communication heading instead.
- Look for wording such as AI assistance, generated content, dynamic content, personalized recommendations, telemetry, tailored offers, machine learning, or online services.
- Disable the relevant option, apply the change, and restart the title if it asks you to do so.
When no game-level switch exists
A game may generate content as a core mechanic, provide only a general online-services switch, or expose no setting at all. In those cases, Xbox account privacy controls can limit account-level personalization but cannot remove content that the title itself renders. Check the game’s current support documentation or contact its publisher for a definitive statement about whether its generated features can be disabled.
Turn off or limit Game assist and other optional AI features
Game assist is an optional AI-enhanced Xbox feature. Its controls are separate from recommendation settings. If you do not want to use Game assist, disable or avoid the feature in its own interface when that option is available. Other optional AI features, including Gaming Copilot where offered on your account and platform, likewise need to be controlled from their own feature interface rather than from a general recommendation switch.
Control use of the feature
- Open Game assist from the Xbox feature entry point.
- Open the feature’s privacy or settings controls.
- Turn off optional data use or the feature itself if the current interface provides that choice, then confirm.
- Repeat the review after an update if the feature gains new controls or becomes available on another device.
View, export, or delete Game assist chats
Use the Microsoft privacy dashboard to review Game assist chat activity. The dashboard controls the feature’s associated data, allowing you to view, export, or delete chats where those actions are offered. Deleting chat history does not remove recommendation tiles, store suggestions, or AI content generated independently by a game.
Understand feature availability
AI features can be limited by region, account, age, language, device, or staged rollout. If Game assist is not shown, there may be nothing to disable on that account. Conversely, hiding a feature entry does not necessarily change account-level recommendations, so handle those in Xbox privacy settings as well.

Stop Windows 11 from using Xbox activity for personalized offers
PC players have a second personalization layer in Windows. Microsoft says Xbox usage can be combined with activity from other Microsoft products for Windows personalized offers. This setting affects Windows experiences; Microsoft also states that it does not change offers in other Microsoft products.
- Open Settings in Windows 11.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Open Personalized offers. Some Windows builds label this page Recommendations & offers.
- Turn off personalized tips, ads, and recommendations, using the individual switches shown by your build.
- Close Settings and restart an affected Windows app if an old recommendation remains visible.
This change can reduce personalized prompts in Windows, such as tips or offers that use Xbox-related activity. It does not disable AI features inside an Xbox game, change Xbox.com recommendations, or control offers presented by other Microsoft products. For those, use the corresponding Xbox account or game settings.
Manage a child account or family group
Child Xbox privacy starts at the most restrictive level by default. A child may therefore be unable to change a setting that an adult account can edit directly.

- Have the family organizer sign in to the account-management or Xbox Family Settings controls.
- Select the child’s profile and open privacy and online-safety settings.
- Review recommendation, personalization, data-sharing, communication, and optional-data choices.
- Save the changes, then have the child sign out and back in on Xbox so the updated policy is applied.
If a setting is locked, greyed out, or immediately reverts, the family organizer’s permission is usually the reason. The organizer may need to approve the change, and the child’s age, region, or family policy can limit which options are available. Family controls do not add a missing AI switch to a game that does not provide one.

Know what “off” means for data and recommendations
Privacy controls have different outcomes. Before changing them, decide whether your goal is fewer personalized suggestions, no use of a particular AI feature, or removal of stored AI conversations.

Turning off optional personalization does not necessarily stop required diagnostic collection or the data needed to provide sign-in, security, multiplayer, purchases, updates, or other core services. Read each setting’s explanation before declining it so that you do not confuse optional tailoring with service functionality.

The same game tile appears after personalization is off
Determine whether the tile is a general promotion, a recently used item, a subscription or library entry, or a recommendation. Account settings mainly affect personalized selection. Sign out, restart, and check again; if the tile remains but is not labeled as personalized, it may be a standard service element outside that control.

Return to that game’s menus and inspect Privacy, Accessibility, Online, Gameplay, and parental-control sections. Install the latest game update, because settings can be added or renamed by the publisher. If no switch exists, the feature may be integral to the title; Xbox privacy settings cannot override the game’s implementation.

Game assist chats still appear in history
Use the Microsoft privacy dashboard rather than the Xbox recommendation page. Confirm that you selected the Game assist data category and completed the delete action. A deletion request for chat history does not clear unrelated Xbox activity or recommendation data.
The Windows setting is missing
Search Windows Settings for Personalized offers and Recommendations & offers. The wording differs between Windows 11 builds, and organizational policies can hide or lock the page. If it is unavailable, manage Xbox recommendations from Xbox privacy settings and review any work or school device policy with its administrator.
A child cannot change the option
Use the family organizer’s account and Xbox Family Settings. Restrictions, age settings, and regional availability can prevent a child profile from editing privacy choices even when the same option is visible for an adult account.
A practical order of operations
Use this sequence when you want the smallest number of changes while still covering the common recommendation and AI sources:
- Identify where the content appears: Xbox dashboard or store, inside one game, Game assist, or Windows 11.
- For dashboard or store recommendations, review the signed-in account’s Xbox privacy and online-safety settings.
- For one title, inspect that title’s own settings and apply its AI or personalization switch if available.
- For Game assist, use its feature privacy controls and the Microsoft privacy dashboard for chat history.
- For a Windows PC, disable the Windows Personalized offers or Recommendations & offers switches separately.
- If the profile is a child account, have the family organizer make the changes.
- Restart or sign back in, then test each surface separately so you know which control produced the change.
Bottom line
Xbox does not provide one documented master switch for every AI-generated feature and recommendation in every game. Start with Xbox privacy and online-safety settings for account-level recommendations, use a game’s own menus for title-specific generated content, manage Game assist through its dedicated privacy controls and dashboard, and change Windows 11 Personalized offers separately on PC. Child accounts require the family organizer, and required service diagnostics remain distinct from optional personalization.
