As of October 19, 2026, Rockstar has not officially documented a GTA 6 menu path for muting radio music or changing its volume. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 includes in-game radio and soundtrack content, but its current support material does not identify a Music, Radio, Licensed Music, or separate music-volume control. A current review published October 7, 2026, likewise reports that verified instructions for dialogue, effects, and music volume have not been published.
When your copy exposes its audio menus, the first place to check is Pause Menu > Settings > Audio. That is an evidence-based starting point from Rockstar’s documented GTAV workflow, not a confirmed GTA 6 instruction. Do not assume that a similarly named slider exists, that radio can be muted independently, or that dialogue and sound effects will remain unchanged until the released game or a Rockstar support article confirms those behaviors.
What is officially known about GTA 6 audio controls
The current answer is a limitation, not a hidden button combination: there is no Rockstar-verified procedure yet for turning GTA 6 radio music off or setting a separate radio-volume level. Rockstar’s GTA 6 support hub currently provides support categories and articles, but no published audio-settings walkthrough that names a menu, slider, button sequence, or platform-specific option.

The distinction matters because a game can include radio stations without offering a radio-only mute, an independent music channel, or any user-facing control beyond a general volume setting.

A review dated October 7, 2026 also reports that Rockstar has not published verified instructions for dialogue, effects, or music volume. Consequently, claims circulating online about a guaranteed Radio Volume, Licensed Music, or Music slider should be treated as unverified unless they can be matched to the released game or an official Rockstar manual or support page.
The practical menu path to try first
Once GTA 6 is available to you and its menus are accessible, use this cautious sequence. It follows Rockstar’s established GTAV settings workflow, so it is a sensible place to look, but it is not proof that GTA 6 uses the same labels or controls.
- Open the pause menu. Use the pause/menu button for your controller while in the game. If the game presents different menus in an active mission, free roam, or an online mode, note which mode you are using.
- Select Settings. Rockstar’s GTAV support guidance says settings are changed from the Pause Menu and that the Settings tab contains options including controls, audio, camera, and display.
- Open Audio. Examine every visible audio row rather than looking only for a control named Radio. Read the complete label and any explanatory text shown on screen.
- Change one control at a time. If the menu contains a music, radio, or licensed-music control, lower it gradually and test a station. If it contains only a master or broad game-volume control, record that limitation instead of assuming it is radio-specific.
- Apply or save the change if required. Some settings take effect immediately; others require an Apply, Confirm, or Save action. Use the label displayed by your build.
- Test more than one sound source. Switch between a radio station, spoken dialogue, environmental effects, and any mission or scripted music that is available. This shows whether the control affects only radio or a wider audio channel.
If your Audio page does not contain a relevant control, that is not evidence that you missed a secret shortcut. It means your current build has not exposed a documented control at that location, or Rockstar has chosen a different menu structure. Do not substitute a claimed GTAV key combination for a GTA 6 instruction.
What you need to establish before calling a setting “radio-only”
A slider’s name alone is not enough to answer the question most players are asking. The useful distinction is what the control changes and what it leaves alone.

Until those tests are possible, it is not accurate to promise that radio can be muted while dialogue, effects, or mission score continue. Rockstar has not published that behavior for GTA 6.
Why the GTAV instructions are useful but not proof
Rockstar Customer Support’s GTAV article, last updated April 20, 2024, states: “The settings for GTAV can be changed within the Pause Menu when in Story Mode or Online. Once in the Pause Menu navigate to the Settings tab. From there you can select from a host of setting options like controls, audio, camera, and display.”
That statement establishes a navigation pattern for GTAV only. It does not state that GTA 6 has the same tabs, uses the same audio labels, or provides a radio-specific slider. Menus can change between games, editions, patches, and modes. The safest use of the GTAV precedent is therefore to begin at Pause Menu > Settings > Audio and then follow the labels that your GTA 6 build actually shows.
Radio, music, dialogue, and effects may be separate—or may not be
Players commonly use “music volume” to mean several different things. In an open-world game, radio songs, non-radio score, mission cues, character dialogue, ambient sounds, weapons, vehicles, and interface sounds can be routed through separate channels or combined into broader categories. A menu that says Music might cover only scripted score, only radio, both, or an implementation that Rockstar has not explained publicly.

For that reason, do not infer channel behavior from a single test. A control that lowers a song during a drive might also reduce a mission cue later. Conversely, muting a radio station might not affect music played outside vehicles. Test ordinary radio playback and a scripted sequence separately, and note whether speech and effects change at the same setting.
If you want radio silent during driving
Look for a control whose wording explicitly refers to radio, stations, or licensed music. If none exists, check whether the in-game vehicle radio itself offers an Off or no-station choice. That possibility must be verified in the released interface; it is not currently documented by Rockstar. Do not describe a station-selection option as a universal mute unless the game confirms that it stops playback in every vehicle and mode.
If you want quieter music but audible voices
Use an independent music or radio slider only if the Audio menu identifies one. Lower it in small increments, then test a conversation and a sound-effect-heavy situation. If dialogue becomes quieter too, the control is shared or its behavior is broader than the label suggests.
If you need licensed music disabled
Search the Audio page for wording that specifically addresses licensed music. A general Music control may include score, radio, or both. If there is no explicit option, the current public information does not establish a supported way to disable licensed songs while retaining the rest of the soundtrack.

Platform and version cautions
Any eventual procedure should identify the platform and game version. The relevant console comparison is expected to include PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, yet no verified platform-specific GTA 6 audio procedure has been published. A menu location or label shown on one console should not automatically be presented as universal.
Record the following when you find an option:
- Platform: PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Game mode: Story, online, free roam, mission, or another mode shown by the game.
- Exact setting label, including capitalization and punctuation.
- Whether the control is a switch, slider, station choice, or master-volume setting.
- Whether the change persists after leaving the vehicle, restarting a mission, changing modes, or relaunching the game.
- Whether dialogue, effects, ambient sound, and non-radio score remain at their previous levels.
This information prevents a mode-specific or version-specific behavior from being reported as a universal feature.

“There is definitely a Radio Volume slider.”
No Rockstar support article currently names that slider for GTA 6. It may appear in a later build, but it is not an established control as of October 19, 2026.

That outcome has not been verified by Rockstar for GTA 6. A setting called Music could be separate, shared, or absent; only an in-game test of the released control can establish the result.

“The GTAV path proves the GTA 6 path.”
GTAV provides a useful precedent for looking under Settings and Audio. It does not confirm GTA 6’s menu names, channel layout, or available options.
“A platform-neutral shortcut works everywhere.”
No official GTA 6 button sequence has been published for this purpose. Platform, mode, accessibility settings, and future patches could all affect behavior.
What to do if changing Audio appears to have no effect
- Confirm the setting was applied. Return to the Audio page and check whether the value remained changed after you left the menu.
- Test with a clearly audible source. Use a radio station or other sound that is currently playing, rather than judging the change during a quiet scene.
- Check the active output device. Verify that your television, headset, receiver, or console volume has not changed independently of the game setting.
- Repeat in another context. Compare vehicle radio playback with dialogue or effects in the same mode, then test again after changing modes.
- Restart only after recording the result. If the setting resets or behaves differently after a restart, that persistence detail is important and may indicate a build-specific issue.
- Use Rockstar’s current support channels for a confirmed answer. Ask for the exact setting name and supported platforms rather than relying on an unlabeled screenshot or a third-party shortcut.
A control that moves but produces no audible difference may affect a channel that is not active in your test, may require a later confirmation step, or may be affected by output-device mixing. Without an official description or repeatable in-game behavior, do not assign it a radio-only meaning.

How to verify a future official procedure
When Rockstar publishes an audio walkthrough or the game exposes a documented option, check that the instructions answer all four questions below:
- Scope: Does it mute radio only, all music, licensed songs, or every game sound?
- Independence: Is the control separate from dialogue, effects, ambient audio, and mission score?
- Location: Is the path identical in Story and online modes?
- Platform and version: Does the instruction specify PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, a patch number, or a menu revision?
Use the exact wording from the current build when documenting the result. If a patch renames or relocates the option, update the path rather than preserving an older label.
Bottom line for players right now
There is no officially documented GTA 6 method yet for turning radio music off or adjusting it independently. Start with Pause Menu > Settings > Audio when you can inspect the released menus, because Rockstar uses that general settings route in GTAV, but treat every GTA 6 control as unconfirmed until its label and behavior are visible in the game or documented by Rockstar. In particular, do not promise a separate radio slider or unchanged dialogue and effects without that confirmation.
