To bring a website into Figma as editable layers, run the html.to.design plugin and import a public page URL, or use its browser extension to capture a logged-in page and send it to the plugin. This is different from placing a flat screenshot image on the canvas: html.to.design says it recreates pages as editable Figma designs, though results can vary and may need cleanup.
What this workflow imports—and what it does not
A conventional screenshot is a single raster image. The html.to.design workflow converts webpage content into Figma layers that you can edit, according to the product vendor. Its plugin and browser extension provide different ways to get that content into Figma; neither should be treated as a guarantee of pixel-perfect reproduction or exact behavior for every website.
The vendor also lists options such as local text and color styles, auto layout, font replacement, viewport variations, and light and dark themes. Those are product capabilities, not a promise that every imported page will be clean or require no adjustments.
Import a public website by URL
- Open a Figma file and launch Actions with ⌘K on Mac, or the equivalent Actions shortcut on your platform.
- Search for html.to.design under Plugins & widgets, then run the plugin.
- Choose the Web tab and paste the page’s publicly accessible URL.
- Select the viewport and theme you want to import. Review any available import options for the page.
- Start the import, then inspect the resulting layers and adjust anything that did not transfer as expected.
The vendor documents importing a single page as well as bulk-importing a full site. Its feature list includes desktop, tablet, and mobile viewports, plus light and dark themes. A selected viewport or theme represents the capture you request; it does not ensure every responsive state or interactive state on the live site is reproduced.

Capture a private or logged-in page
Use the browser extension when the page depends on your login, a particular browser session, a VPN or local-network access, or when you want only a selected portion of the page. The public-URL route cannot reproduce a private session it cannot access.
- Open the page in your browser and sign in or navigate to the session-specific state you need.
- Open the html.to.design browser extension and choose either a full-page capture or a selection capture.
- Send the capture directly to the Figma plugin, or download it as an .h2d file.
- For a downloaded file, open the plugin’s Extension tab or drop the .h2d file into the plugin to import it.
The extension documentation says a locally downloaded .h2d file stays on your computer and does not reach the service’s servers. That statement applies to the local-file option; it does not establish the same privacy handling for direct handoff.
Choose an import route

Import local webpage files
In the plugin’s File tab, you can import .h2d, .html or .htm, ZIP bundles containing webpage assets, email formats, and MHTML/MHT files. The vendor recommends .h2d because it contains the information needed to recreate the webpage.

An HTML file may refer to images, CSS, or JavaScript hosted elsewhere. Those resources may not import if they are missing or inaccessible. ZIP imports have a stated maximum size of 32 MB, so keep the bundle below that limit.
Edit and refine the imported design
After import, inspect the layer tree and verify that the important content, typography, colors, and layout are represented as needed. The vendor describes the result as editable Figma layers and lists local styles, auto layout, font mapping or replacement, complex gradient support, and prototype-related options. Use those features as available in the plugin, then correct issues in the imported file rather than assuming the source page has been reproduced perfectly.
If the target has several responsive layouts, import the relevant viewport variants and compare them in Figma. If a theme matters, import the required light or dark version. The vendor’s feature descriptions do not provide an independent accuracy benchmark or a quantified time-saving estimate.

Plans and import limits
Plan allowances can change, so confirm the current terms on the html.to.design site before choosing a plan. When accessed on October 3, 2026, the homepage listed up to 10 imports every 30 days on the free plan. The Features documentation described 1,000 imports per month under the Pro plan’s unlimited-import fair-use policy. These are plan-specific limits, not performance measurements.
Troubleshoot common import problems
The public URL will not import
Check that the URL is reachable without signing in and that you pasted the intended page address. If it relies on a logged-in session, VPN, or local-network access, switch to the browser extension capture route.

The imported page is missing images, styles, or scripts
This can happen with local HTML when referenced assets are external, missing, or inaccessible. Use an .h2d capture where possible, or include the page’s required resources in an accessible ZIP bundle.

The ZIP file is rejected
Check the archive size: the documentation states that ZIP imports should be smaller than 32 MB. Reduce the bundle or use the recommended .h2d route.
The imported design does not match the live page
Confirm that you selected the needed viewport and theme, and use the extension if the page depends on a specific logged-in state. Review and adjust the imported layers; the vendor does not promise pixel-perfect results for every site.
The expected private-page content is absent
Capture the page after signing in and reaching the correct browser state. Use the extension’s full-page or selection capture, then send it to the plugin or import the downloaded .h2d file.
