A URL pasted directly into an attachment field is not converted into a document.
Build the Zap with PDF.co
The most direct documented route is PDF.co’s Zapier integration. It offers URL-capable conversion actions and an email-with-attachment action. You’ll need a PDF.co account, its API key, and enough account credits for the conversion. See Zapier’s PDF.co integration documentation for setup and action details.
- Choose a trigger. Start with the event that provides the webpage URL, such as a form submission or a new record in another app.
- Add a PDF.co conversion action. Select the URL-capable HTML to PDF Converter or Anything to PDF Converter. Map the trigger’s URL into the converter’s URL/input field. The HTML-to-PDF action documents layout and orientation options.
- Map the resulting PDF to the destination. Add an email action—PDF.co’s Send Email With Attachment action or the destination email app’s action—and map the conversion step’s PDF/file output to its real attachment field.
- Test with a reachable URL. Check that the conversion step returns a PDF file and that the destination step uses that file, not a filename, file ID, or preview-page link.
Zapier’s PDF.co integration documentation specifies a maximum request size of 4 MB. It accepts file inputs through publicly accessible URLs rather than direct uploads, notes rate limiting, and describes special handling for password-protected documents. Check that the conversion service can reach the page or file you pass in.
Make sure the destination receives a file
Zapier file fields accept a file object or a publicly accessible URL that downloads the file directly. A webpage that previews a file, a URL that requires a login, or a link that returns an error is not a usable attachment link. Zapier’s file guidance recommends testing a URL in a private or incognito browser window: it should download the file without asking you to sign in or showing a preview page.

- In the destination action, choose the field that carries the attachment itself. Do not map a similarly named filename or ID field.
- If a previous test showed a file but the current step cannot find it, refresh or retest the trigger data; a stored sample may have expired.
- For Gmail, use the attachment field and map a file or direct-download URL. When attaching a Google Drive file, Zapier recommends mapping the Drive step’s File field rather than a public URL. See Zapier’s file guidance and its Gmail attachment guidance.
Google Drive links need care
For files uploaded to Google Drive, Zapier documents this download URL pattern: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=FILE_ID. The pattern is for files uploaded to Drive; Zapier says it does not work for native Google documents, presentations, and similar files created in Drive. Where possible, use the Google Drive step’s Web Content Link instead of a share or preview URL. See Zapier’s file guidance.
Use Webhooks by Zapier with an external PDF converter
If you need to call a different conversion service, Webhooks by Zapier can send a request to an external API. The API—not the webhook step—must do the URL-to-PDF rendering and return or expose the resulting file in a form your next Zap step can attach. Confirm the converter’s current authentication, request fields, response format, limits, and plan requirements in its own documentation before configuring the Zap.

Zapier documents GET, POST, PUT, and Custom Request methods. For sending files, it recommends POST or PUT; file objects cannot be sent through Custom Request. The referenced Webhooks guide lists the feature on Professional, Team, and Enterprise plans, not Free. It also notes that API use requires familiarity with APIs and may be subject to rate limits.

Troubleshoot missing or invalid attachments
- The email arrives without a PDF: Check that the conversion step produced a file, then map that output to the destination’s actual attachment field. A filename or file ID alone is not the attachment.
- The URL returns a 403, login page, preview, or empty file: The converter or destination may not have access, or the link may point to a preview page instead of a direct download. Test it in a private browser window and use an accessible direct file URL when the step expects an existing file.
- A Google Drive attachment fails: Prefer the Drive step’s File output or Web Content Link where appropriate. Do not assume a share-page URL is a direct download. The
uc?export=downloadpattern applies to uploaded files, not native Drive documents. - PDF.co conversion fails: Verify the URL is publicly reachable by the service, the request is within the documented 4 MB maximum, the account has credits, and any password-protected document is handled as required. If requests arrive frequently, consider the integration’s documented rate limiting.
- A webhook request fails: Match the HTTP method and payload to the external API’s requirements. Use POST or PUT for file sending rather than Custom Request, and confirm the endpoint actually converts webpages to PDF.

Can I attach a Google Drive share link to Gmail?
A share or preview link may not download the file directly. For Gmail, Zapier recommends using the Drive step’s File output; its documented download URL pattern is limited to files uploaded to Drive.
