A screenshot saved only on your device does not have a public URL.
Choose the kind of link you need
“Screenshot URL” can mean two different things: a link that opens the image itself, or a share link that opens a page where the image can be viewed. Those links are not interchangeable. Before uploading, check what the destination accepts.

Upload and share a screenshot with Imgur
Imgur is the relevant choice when you need a direct image URL. Its help documentation says uploaded content can be located with a direct URL. The exact controls may vary between desktop, mobile browser, and the Imgur apps.

- Upload the screenshot. On desktop, select a local image in Imgur’s upload flow. Imgur also documents uploading through its apps.
- Open the uploaded image. On desktop, right-click the image and choose the browser option labeled “Copy image address.” On a mobile browser, use the content menu’s “Copy link” action; in the Imgur apps, long-press the image to copy its link.
- Check the link type. The copied image address is intended to point directly to the image, but some destinations require a page URL or have their own embedding rules.
- Test before sharing. Open the link in a private or signed-out browser window. If it is for an app or website, test it in that destination too. Confirm that it shows the image rather than an Imgur page, and that people who should not have access cannot see it.
- Review visibility. Imgur distinguishes Public and Hidden posts. Its help says a Hidden post is accessible through its direct URL, so “Hidden” should not be treated as access protection. Retain the URL and upload while signed in if you want account-side control and a way to request deletion.
Use the Imgur help page’s official instructions for locating an image URL: Imgur. The help material describes the direct-link workflow; it does not establish a guarantee that every receiving website will accept the link.
Use Google Drive when you want a permission-managed file link
Drive is suited to sharing the screenshot as a file rather than embedding a direct image resource. Upload the image, choose who can access it, select the Viewer role, and copy the file link. If you choose “Anyone with the link,” anyone who gets that link can access the file, subject to the role you selected.
- For limited sharing: choose access settings appropriate to the intended recipients rather than assuming that copying a link makes it private.
- For public sharing: understand that the link may be forwarded beyond the original recipient. A file link is not the same as a secret that cannot be passed on.
- For personal privacy: Google warns that when you share a file by link, your name and email are visible as the owner. Consider that before posting the link publicly.
Google Drive Help provides the current sharing workflow and explains link access. Check its instructions in the Drive help center before relying on a particular label or setting, because interfaces can change.

Share with Google Photos or Dropbox
Google Photos: share a photo or album page
Google Photos offers a link for an individual photo or an album. This is a Photos sharing link, not necessarily a direct image-file URL. For albums, link sharing can be reset by turning it off and back on. While link sharing remains on, removing an individual person does not prevent holders of the existing link from viewing. If you need to revoke access, turn off link sharing; do not rely only on removing a named person.
Dropbox: automate link copying during screenshot capture
Dropbox documents settings that can automatically copy a link or image after a screenshot capture. The result depends on the settings you have configured, so inspect what is copied before sending or embedding it. This is a workflow convenience if you already capture screenshots with Dropbox; the documented behavior does not establish that every copied result is a direct image URL.
Make sure the link works where you plan to use it
A link working in your own signed-in browser does not prove that it will work for another person or in an embed. Check it from the recipient’s perspective.

- For a public post: open the link in a private window or while signed out. If it asks the viewer to sign in, it is not publicly viewable in the way you intended.
- For an HTML image: the destination generally needs an image resource it can load, not merely a page that displays an image. Test the URL in the actual page or editor; a preview page may not qualify.
- For a private file: use the intended permission model and test with an account that reflects the recipient’s access. Avoid using a publicly accessible link for sensitive screenshots.
- For mobile recipients: open the link on a phone as well if the sharing context is mobile. A browser-specific or app-specific copy action can yield a different kind of link.
Do not assume that a link will remain available forever or that a particular service’s link format is accepted by every third-party site. The official workflows described here do not establish universal compatibility or link-lifetime guarantees.
Privacy and access checks before you send
Screenshots can reveal information beyond the main content: names, email addresses, account details, browser tabs, notifications, or internal URLs. Review the image itself before uploading. Then decide whether anyone with the URL should be able to view it.

- For Drive links, factor in the owner’s visible name and email address.
- For a Google Photos shared album, remember that link holders can pass the link along; reset link sharing if you need to invalidate the old link.
- For Imgur Hidden posts, remember that someone with the direct URL can access the content, according to Imgur’s help.
- Keep control of the account and the link if you may later need to manage or request removal of an upload.
Common problems and fixes
The link opens a page, not the image
You copied a share-page URL rather than a direct image address, or the destination expects a different URL type. For Imgur on desktop, use the browser’s “Copy image address” option on the image itself. If a page link is all the service provides, use it only where a page link is acceptable.

The recipient is asked to sign in
The file or photo is not shared with that recipient, or the link setting is restricted. Review the item’s access controls and grant only the level of access you intend. If you switch to “Anyone with the link” in Drive, understand that anyone holding the link can access it.
The embed is broken even though the URL opens for you
The URL may resolve to a viewer page, require a signed-in session, or be rejected by the destination. Test from a private window and in the target app or website. The documented workflows do not guarantee support in every embed destination.
A supposedly hidden image is still visible
Hidden is not the same as private when the direct URL is known. Imgur’s help says a Hidden post is accessible through its direct URL. Avoid sharing that URL beyond the people who should see the image.

A removed person can still view a Google Photos album
If link sharing remains on, existing link holders can still view the album. Turn link sharing off and, if you want a fresh link, turn it back on to reset the shared album link.
Dropbox copied something unexpected
Dropbox’s copied result depends on configured screenshot settings. Review those settings and verify the copied content’s behavior before distributing it.

No. A local file path is not a link that other people can access; the image must be hosted by a service for others to retrieve it.
