Start with the symptom-specific checks below. The concrete procedures here are for Ray-Ban Meta; other brands and models may use different cases, buttons, apps, and charging methods, so follow their manufacturers’ instructions.
If your smart glasses will not connect or pair

Check that the glasses are switched on and have charge, then enable Bluetooth on your phone.

Put the glasses into pairing mode using the instructions for your exact model and app version. Ray-Ban Meta’s support instructions describe using the case button, and its setup instructions also document a frame-button method. See the Ray-Ban Meta FAQs (UK) for the applicable setup guidance.

If the glasses do not appear in the companion app, turn them off and on, close and reopen the app, and try pairing again. If an old Bluetooth pairing is still saved on the phone, remove it before starting a fresh pairing.

If pairing is active but the Bluetooth connection errors, bring the phone closer, keep it in front of you or in a front pocket, and temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth devices.
A companion-app connection failure does not necessarily mean the camera has failed. Ray-Ban’s FAQ says Ray-Ban Meta glasses can still capture photos and videos while disconnected from the companion app. If the glasses will not record either, troubleshoot that separately below.

If the glasses or charging case will not charge
Check how the glasses sit in the case
For Ray-Ban Meta, the glasses charge in their charging case: place them so the nose bridge rests on the case contacts. Ray-Ban says this is the only way to charge the glasses. On first use, remove any protective plastic covering the contacts. Check for the case LED indication or the app’s charging icon to see whether charging has started. Details are in the Ray-Ban Meta FAQs (US).
If the case itself is not charging
Try a different USB-C cable, compatible power adapter, and outlet. The cable and adapter must be compatible with your particular case; the manufacturer’s guidance does not establish a universal wattage or a cable that works across brands.

If the indicator is solid or pulsing red
Ray-Ban identifies heat or detected liquid as possible charging errors when its case shows a solid or pulsing red indicator. Move hot devices to a cooler location. Undock the glasses, clean and dry the nose-bridge area and case, then dock them again. Do not charge with wet contacts.
If charging still fails after these checks, use the manufacturer’s warranty or support process rather than continuing to troubleshoot with unverified accessories.

If recording will not start
Check power and battery level
Make sure the glasses are switched on and have charge. On supported Ray-Ban Meta devices, recording can be blocked below a minimum battery level that changes with temperature. Ray-Ban says the limit helps protect against brownout risk. For the covered Supernova device family, its 2026 FAQ gives thresholds of 10% at 25°C and 15% at 20°C; the minimum is higher at lower temperatures. These figures apply to that device family, not to smart glasses generally.
Restart before escalating
If charge is adequate but recording still fails, restart the glasses and check the manufacturer’s app and device guidance. If the problem persists, contact manufacturer support. The documented steps do not establish that a factory reset is necessary.

When to contact support
Contact the manufacturer if the model-specific pairing steps do not work, charging remains unsuccessful after checking contacts and compatible accessories, or recording still fails after a restart and battery check. For Ray-Ban Meta, the UK FAQ says to open a warranty claim through its portal if pairing setup still fails. Other manufacturers may have different warranty and repair routes.
