Start by identifying the exact case model and the phone it is meant to work with. The documented steps below are specifically for the OAXIS InkCase i7 and an iPhone 7-era setup; other e-ink cases may pair, charge, and reset differently. For another model, use its own manual before trying a reset or firmware update.
1. Confirm your case model and phone compatibility
Check the label, packaging, app, or manual for the case’s model name, then confirm that it supports your phone. OAXIS documents the InkCase i7 for iPhone 7, with Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, a 4.3-inch E Ink display, and a magnetic charging port. Those specifications are specific to the i7, not a guide to newer or NFC-powered cases. See the InkCase i7 Quick Start Guide and OAXIS’s InkCase for iPhone product information.
If your case is not an i7, consult the manufacturer’s manuals or the documentation for your own brand and model. In particular, do not assume the i7’s button-hold reset, app workflow, cable, or firmware tool applies to your case.
2. Check that the case has power and is close to the phone
Charge the case with the cable intended for that model, then keep it beside the phone while troubleshooting. The i7 uses a magnetic charging port and its model-specific magnetic USB cable; a cable for another case may not fit. Apple’s Bluetooth guidance is to make sure an accessory is on and charged or connected to power, and to keep it near the iPhone or iPad. Follow Apple’s Bluetooth connection steps if you are unsure whether the phone can see other accessories.

For the i7, OAXIS’s product page reports up to 60 hours of standby based on 100 page flips per day, and 1,500 page flips. It also gives manufacturer-reported estimates of 19 hours when refreshing once per minute, 10 hours at twice per minute, and 6 hours at three times per minute. These are not guarantees for an aged battery or every use pattern. A frequently refreshing screen can use power faster than a static image.
3. Pair through the case’s supported app
InkCase i7: use the InkCase app and Device List
OAXIS’s i7 guide directs users to open the InkCase app, go to My InkCase, and pair from the Device List. During startup, use the displayed Device ID to select the intended case, especially if more than one device is nearby. The App Store listing identifies InkCase as the app for InkCase devices and says it supports i6 and later models; its published version history runs through 2019, so present-day app and iOS compatibility is not established by that listing.

The historical i7 guide also instructs users to allow the app’s requested iPhone permissions and refers to Location set to “Always.” iOS labels and permission requirements can change. Follow the current app and iOS prompts rather than treating an older permission label as universal.
Check Bluetooth permission and remove stale pairings
On iPhone, review Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth and allow Bluetooth access for the case’s app if it is listed. If the case was paired before but will not reconnect, Apple recommends unpairing it, putting it back into discovery mode, and pairing again. If it is connected to another phone or tablet, unpair it there first. Use the case’s own manual for the discovery-mode procedure; it can differ by model.

4. Separate connection trouble from image-transfer trouble
If the app sees the case but the displayed image does not change, confirm the correct case is selected and that the send or transfer operation has finished before treating the display as faulty. For the InkCase i7, OAXIS describes this image workflow: open the app’s Photos tab, choose an image, crop and save it, then select the saved image to send it to the case.
An E Ink image can remain visible without a continuous refresh. OAXIS explains that an electrical charge rearranges the screen’s pigments, and its March 2018 update says it changed a clock interface to refresh every five minutes rather than every minute to reduce refresh frequency. That is historical, product-specific information—not a recommended setting for every InkCase or a diagnosis of a failed transfer. If the case is paired and the transfer has completed but the screen still does not update, check the model’s manual for its refresh behavior.

5. Restart or update only with model-specific instructions
Reset an unresponsive InkCase i7
For an unresponsive i7 only, OAXIS’s guide says: “Press and hold the Power Button for 10 secs to reset an unresponsive InkCase i7.” Do not apply that button hold to a different case unless its manufacturer specifies the same procedure.
Use the i7 firmware tool cautiously
The i7 guide points to an OAXIS Firmware Upgrade Tool on a computer, connected to the case with its magnetic USB cable. It says that if the device is not detected, hold the power button for 10 seconds and follow the tool’s instructions. Before proceeding, verify that the tool and firmware package are still available, that the package is for the exact i7 model, and that your cable matches the case. The guide is historical and does not establish current tool availability or compatibility with current computer systems.

6. Contact the manufacturer when basic checks fail
Contact the case manufacturer if Bluetooth is unavailable across the phone, the case will not power up or perform its model-specific reset, or a correctly paired case cannot complete an image transfer. For OAXIS products, use the details on its Contact page. Have the case model, phone model, app name, and a concise description of what happens during pairing or transfer ready when you ask for help.
