Use Nintendo’s nearby-console save-data transfer to move your Paper Perjury progress from the original Nintendo Switch to a Switch 2. Update the original Switch, connect both consoles to the internet, keep them close together, and link the same Nintendo Account to the relevant user on each system. On the original console, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console, choose the user and Paper Perjury, then follow the pairing prompts. Nintendo Switch Online is not required for this method, but the selected save is deleted from the old Switch after it is sent.

What you need before transferring

The selective transfer is designed for moving one game’s save between two consoles. Prepare both systems before opening the transfer menu so the process is not interrupted halfway through.

  • Both consoles: Have the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 available at the same time and keep them close together for the local communication step.
  • Internet access: Connect both consoles to the internet. This is a requirement even though the save is transferred between nearby systems.
  • System software: Install the latest available system update on the original Switch before starting.
  • Matching account: The user that owns the Paper Perjury save must be linked to the same Nintendo Account on both consoles.
  • Power: Keep both systems powered on and, ideally, connected to their chargers while the transfer runs. A transfer that is interrupted should be restarted from the beginning rather than assuming the destination has a usable save.
  • Destination storage and software: Make sure the Switch 2 can start Paper Perjury. The transfer moves the save data; it does not by itself establish whether a particular game license or installation is available on the receiving console.

You do not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership for the nearby-console procedure. Nintendo’s support documentation states: “A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to use this feature.”

Choose the right transfer method

There are three practical routes. The first is the best fit when you only want to move Paper Perjury. The second is for a Switch 2 that is still in its initial setup and when you want to move a broader set of console data. The third uses Nintendo Switch Online, but only if Nintendo lists Paper Perjury as compatible with Save Data Cloud.

Method When to use it Both consoles available? Nintendo Switch Online required? What happens to the source save?
Nearby, selective save transfer Move the Paper Perjury save without performing a full system migration. Yes; the consoles communicate while the transfer is performed. No. The selected save is deleted from the original Switch after it is sent.
System Transfer during Switch 2 setup Move users, settings, digital games and compatible save data as part of setting up the new console. Yes for local communication. No for the local-transfer route. Not stated by Nintendo for every item in the local route; follow the on-screen instructions.
Server-based System Transfer Use when the old Switch will be traded in or otherwise unavailable before the Switch 2 is set up. No; the old console can be dealt with first after uploading. Not stated as required for System Transfer. Uploading initializes the source console. The transferred data must then be retrieved on the Switch 2 during setup.
Save Data Cloud Use only if Paper Perjury is listed as cloud-compatible and you have Nintendo Switch Online. No; the save is restored from Nintendo’s cloud service. Yes. The cloud workflow is separate from nearby transfer; Nintendo does not state in the consulted support material whether Paper Perjury supports it.

If preserving the old Switch’s copy is important, do not begin the nearby selective transfer until you accept that it is a move, not a copy. If you need a broad migration and the Switch 2 has not completed initial setup, consider System Transfer instead. If the old console must be surrendered first, the server-transfer route is the relevant alternative, but it initializes the old system.

Nearby transfer: move only the Paper Perjury save

This is the direct answer for most players who have both consoles in hand and want their Paper Perjury progress on Switch 2.

1. Prepare the original Switch

  1. Turn on the original Switch and connect it to the internet.
  2. Install the latest system update offered by the console.
  3. Open System Settings, then choose Data Management.
  4. Select Transfer Your Save Data.
  5. Choose Send Save Data to Another Console.

Do not launch a different migration workflow if your intention is to move only Paper Perjury. The menu above is Nintendo’s selective save-data path.

2. Prepare the Switch 2

  1. Turn on the Switch 2 and connect it to the internet.
  2. Make sure the receiving user is linked to the same Nintendo Account as the user selected on the original Switch.
  3. Keep the Switch 2 close to the original console so the systems can complete their local pairing.
  4. Leave the console available for the receiving prompts while the original Switch is on the send screen.

The account match is user-specific. If several people use the consoles, select the user whose Paper Perjury progress you intend to move; linking a different account does not make that save belong to the other user.

3. Select the game and pair the consoles

  1. On the original Switch, choose the relevant user when the transfer screen asks whose save data should be sent.
  2. Select Paper Perjury from the available save data.
  3. Follow the pairing prompts shown on both systems.
  4. Wait for the consoles to report that the transfer has finished before closing the software or powering either system off.

The operation sends the selected save to the Switch 2. It is not a duplicate operation: Nintendo deletes that save from the source console after it is sent.

4. Confirm the destination before touching the old console

  1. On the Switch 2, open Paper Perjury with the receiving user.
  2. Check that the expected progress, chapters, or other in-game state appears.
  3. If the game does not show the expected save, do not reset, trade in, sell, or otherwise dispose of the original Switch. Recheck the account and user selection, then consult Nintendo’s support process before attempting another change.
  4. Only after the Switch 2 loads the correct progress should you erase or repurpose the old console.

There is no safe assumption that seeing the title on the Switch 2 means the correct save loaded. The verification step protects you from discovering an account-selection or transfer problem after the source copy has already been removed.

What the deletion warning means

Nearby save-data transfer is intentionally a relocation. Once the original Switch sends the selected Paper Perjury save, that save is deleted from the source. You should therefore treat the old console as the only remaining recovery point until the Switch 2 has successfully opened the transferred progress.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • It is not a backup: Choosing the selective transfer does not leave a second local copy on the old Switch.
  • It does not require Nintendo Switch Online: The absence of a membership requirement does not change the deletion behavior.
  • It is game-specific: Only the selected user’s selected save is involved in this menu path; it is different from moving the whole console configuration.
  • It affects your disposal decision: Do not factory-reset, trade in, or sell the source console until you have opened the game on Switch 2 and confirmed the result.

If keeping a local copy on the original Switch is a firm requirement, pause before selecting Send Save Data to Another Console. Nintendo’s documented nearby procedure does not preserve the source save afterward.

Using System Transfer instead

Nintendo’s System Transfer is broader than the selective save menu. When the Switch 2 is still in its initial setup, System Transfer can move digital games, compatible save data, users, and settings. It is appropriate when you are establishing the new console as your main system rather than moving only Paper Perjury.

Local System Transfer when both consoles are available

Nintendo intends local communication for the case in which both consoles are present. Start the Switch 2’s System Transfer during initial setup and keep the original Switch available when the setup prompts request it. The consoles will present the instructions for choosing the local route and selecting the data to be moved.

Use this option when you want the Switch 2 to receive a wider set of compatible information and you have not finished initial setup. It is a different decision from opening the original Switch’s Transfer Your Save Data menu for a single title.

Server transfer when the old Switch will leave first

A server transfer is designed for a different sequence: upload from the old Switch, then retrieve the data on the Switch 2 during its setup. This can be useful when the original console will be traded in before you have the new system in hand.

The important risk is that uploading initializes the source console. Treat the upload as a final handoff, not as a temporary backup. Before starting, verify that you have selected the intended Nintendo Account and understand that the old system will no longer remain in its previous usable state. When the Switch 2 is available, retrieve the uploaded data during setup as instructed by Nintendo.

Can Nintendo Switch Online restore Paper Perjury?

Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud is separate from the nearby-console transfer. A membership is required for the cloud service, and cloud compatibility is determined by the individual game. The available Nintendo support information does not establish whether Paper Perjury supports Save Data Cloud, so do not rely on the cloud route without checking.

Check in the eShop

Open the Paper Perjury software details in the Nintendo eShop and look for the Save Data Cloud compatibility information. If the listing identifies the software as unsupported, cloud restoration is not the route to use; transfer the save directly between the consoles instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check from the HOME Menu

  1. Highlight Paper Perjury on the console’s HOME Menu.
  2. Press + or – to open the software options.
  3. Look for Save Data Cloud.
  4. If the menu says the software is unsupported, use the nearby-console transfer rather than planning around Nintendo Switch Online.

If the menu provides cloud controls, follow Nintendo’s cloud prompts and make sure you are using the same Nintendo Account and user associated with the existing progress. Cloud availability alone does not remove the need to choose the correct account.

Troubleshooting a failed or missing transfer

Most preventable problems come from starting the wrong workflow, using different users, or disposing of the source before checking the destination. Work through these checks in order.

The consoles do not pair

  • Confirm both systems are connected to the internet.
  • Move the consoles close together and leave both powered on.
  • Confirm that the latest system update has been installed on the original Switch.
  • Restart the transfer from System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console, rather than entering a different data-management feature.

Paper Perjury is not listed

  • Check that you selected the user who actually owns the save.
  • Confirm that the relevant user on Switch 2 is linked to the same Nintendo Account.
  • Make sure you are using the selective save-transfer screen on the original Switch.
  • If you were trying to use Save Data Cloud, check the eShop listing or the HOME Menu’s Save Data Cloud entry; cloud support is title-specific.

The game opens on Switch 2 but progress is missing

  • Close the game and reopen it with the user that received the transfer.
  • Check whether the transfer selected a different user’s save.
  • Do not erase or trade in the original Switch while the result is unresolved.
  • If the source save has already been deleted and the destination is incorrect, contact Nintendo Support for recovery guidance rather than repeating unrelated transfers.

You already uploaded for a server transfer

Do not expect the old Switch to continue operating normally after the upload; Nintendo’s server-transfer process initializes the source. Complete the Switch 2’s initial setup and retrieve the uploaded data there, using the same account details selected for the upload.

Which method should you use?

  • Both consoles are beside you and only Paper Perjury matters: Use the nearby selective transfer. It does not require Nintendo Switch Online, but verify the Switch 2 before disposing of the old Switch.
  • The Switch 2 is still in initial setup and you want a broader migration: Use local System Transfer to move compatible saves along with users, settings, and digital games.
  • The old Switch must be traded in before the Switch 2 arrives: Use the server-transfer workflow, understanding that uploading initializes the old console and that retrieval happens during Switch 2 setup.
  • You already have Nintendo Switch Online and want a cloud restore: First verify that Paper Perjury is cloud-compatible in the eShop or software menu. If it is unsupported, switch to the nearby-console method.

Final safety checklist

  1. Identify the exact user whose Paper Perjury save you want.
  2. Link that user to the same Nintendo Account on both consoles.
  3. Connect both consoles to the internet and update the original Switch.
  4. Choose nearby selective transfer, local System Transfer, server transfer, or cloud only after deciding whether you need one game or a wider migration.
  5. If using nearby transfer, remember that the selected source save will be deleted.
  6. Open Paper Perjury on Switch 2 and confirm the expected progress.
  7. Only then reset, trade in, sell, or otherwise dispose of the original Switch.

The Bottom Line

For a direct Paper Perjury move, use the nearby save-data path on the original Switch. Nintendo Switch Online is unnecessary, but the transfer removes the selected save from the source, so verify the game on Switch 2 before parting with the old console.
