Short answer: the officially documented PC-to-console route is limited to Football Manager Console on Windows from the Microsoft Store/Xbox ecosystem syncing with Football Manager Console on Xbox. A normal Football Manager 27 installation from Steam or Epic is not documented as importable into Xbox Console. On PlayStation 5, SEGA documents Remote Play access to a PlayStation save, not importing a Windows save file.
Football Manager 27 launches on 10 November 2026 for Steam, Epic Games and the Xbox PC app, with FM27 Console on Xbox and PS5. Because a dedicated FM27 transfer FAQ has not yet been published, treat the compatibility boundary below as the current official position and check for a later FM27-specific update before starting a long-term career.

The key distinction is the edition, not merely the fact that both devices run Football Manager. The compatible Windows build is Football Manager Console (often abbreviated FMC) obtained through the Microsoft Store/Xbox ecosystem. The standard PC edition installed through Steam or Epic uses a different save environment from Xbox Console.

Check your edition before you begin
Do this check before committing a career to a device you plan to replace or share. On Windows, identify where the game was installed and which edition you opened. A Microsoft Store/Xbox-app installation of Football Manager Console is the documented companion to Xbox Console. A Steam or Epic installation is the standard PC edition and should be treated as separate from the Xbox Console save system.

- Console edition: use Football Manager Console on Xbox, not a different Football Manager product or edition.
- Account: sign in with the same Xbox/Microsoft account on Windows and Xbox. Cloud synchronization follows that account.
- Console generation: confirm whether you are using Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, because the documented playable-nation limits differ.
- Storage expectation: Xbox cloud saves are the synchronization mechanism. A file copied to ordinary cloud storage is not automatically an Xbox game save.
The Xbox FM27 listing advertises cloud saves. That does not make every PC edition interchangeable; it means the compatible Xbox ecosystem can keep its own save synchronized when the account, edition and cloud process all match.
How to sync Football Manager Console PC with Xbox
Use this sequence when moving an FMC career between a Windows PC running the Microsoft Store/Xbox version and Xbox Console.
- Install the compatible edition on Windows. Install Football Manager Console through the Microsoft Store/Xbox ecosystem. Do not use the Steam or Epic installation for this transfer route.
- Sign in to the same account on both devices. The Xbox/Microsoft account used on Windows must be the account used on the Xbox console. An account mismatch can make the second device appear to have no current save even though the first device still shows it locally.
- Open the career on the device where you last played. Check that the save you intend to move is the current one. If you keep several rolling saves, note the newest in-game date or filename so you do not upload an older copy by mistake.
- Save normally inside Football Manager Console. Wait until the save operation has finished before attempting to change devices. Avoid shutting down the PC, suspending the console or ending the app while a save is still being written.
- Leave the game open long enough for cloud synchronization. The cloud upload is not necessarily complete the instant the in-game save finishes. Give the app time to finish its synchronization process and, where available, verify that the device shows the newest cloud-save time.
- Exit Football Manager cleanly. SEGA Support states: “The Save Game will only be synced to the Cloud when you exit the game, so please only exit Steam, Epic or Microsoft Store/Xbox app when the save game has been fully synched to the Cloud.” That guidance was updated on 10 October 2025. The practical point is to close Football Manager after the save has completed, rather than force-closing the process or powering off immediately.
- Open Football Manager Console on the other device. Start the Xbox version while signed in to the same account. Allow the cloud-save check to finish, then select the newest available save rather than an older local copy.
- Confirm the result before continuing. Load the career and check the club, season, in-game date and most recent decisions. If the loaded state is older, stop and investigate the cloud timestamp instead of saving over the newer version.
When moving the career back to Windows, use the same order in reverse: save on Xbox, wait for synchronization, exit the game cleanly, then open the Microsoft Store/Xbox PC edition and load the newest cloud copy.

SEGA’s Xbox/PC support information distinguishes the console generation. In the documented PC-to-Xbox synchronization scenario, Xbox One supports five playable nations, while Xbox Series X|S and PC support up to ten. These are career-setup limits, not a statement that a save file can be converted between unrelated editions.

Decide the career setup before you start. If you create a save with more playable nations than the destination device supports, the destination may not offer an equivalent configuration. Confirm the console generation and the edition on Windows first, especially when an Xbox One and a newer Xbox are both used in the same household.
Can a Steam or Epic FM27 save be moved to Xbox?
There is no official transfer workflow documented for loading a standard Steam or Epic PC save directly into Football Manager Console on Xbox. The current compatibility wording limits the supported PC side to “FMC PC from the MS Store” because that is the build compatible with FMC on Xbox.
Do not assume that identical club data, a shared Microsoft account or an Xbox cloud-save label removes the edition boundary. The standard PC game and Football Manager Console are separate products for this purpose. Unless Sports Interactive publishes an explicit FM27 exception, keep a Steam or Epic career on that edition and start or continue the Xbox-compatible career in the Microsoft Store/Xbox version.
Why a USB drive or ordinary cloud storage does not solve the problem
USB flash drive and external SSD
No official FM27 import procedure is published for copying a save to a USB flash drive or external SSD and selecting it on Xbox or PS5. Removable storage can move bytes, but it does not convert a standard PC save into the console edition’s expected format, ownership data or synchronization record. It also cannot make a Windows save compatible with a different console platform.

OneDrive, Google Drive and similar services
Putting a file in a general-purpose cloud folder is different from Xbox or PlayStation game-save synchronization. Those services do not create the platform metadata required for a console game to recognize an imported Football Manager save, and no FM27 import route using them is documented.
Renaming or manually replacing files
Renaming a save, changing its extension or placing it in a guessed folder is not an official method. It can also overwrite a usable local copy. Keep independent backups of important careers, but do not treat a backup as proof that the destination edition can read it.
What is possible on PlayStation 5?
SEGA’s published PlayStation guidance describes Remote Play: “You can start a save on one device and sync it over to another all thanks to PS Remote Play.” In practical terms, Remote Play lets you access and continue the save that belongs to the PlayStation environment from another supported device through the PS5. It is remote access to the console session, not a Windows-save import.

The available official material does not provide a supported procedure for copying a Windows FM27 save into Football Manager Console on PS5. If your career began on Steam, Epic or the Microsoft Store PC edition, do not promise yourself that the PS5 version will open it. To continue a PlayStation career elsewhere, use the Remote Play approach described by SEGA and keep the save within the PlayStation ecosystem.

Troubleshoot a missing or older cloud save
Work through these checks in order. They target the failure points that can be verified without modifying files.
The second device shows no save
- Confirm that both devices use the same Xbox/Microsoft account.
- Confirm that the Windows installation is Football Manager Console from the Microsoft Store/Xbox ecosystem, not Steam or Epic.
- Return to the original device, open the career, save again and leave the game running until synchronization finishes.
- Exit Football Manager normally, because SEGA says the save is synchronized to the cloud when the game exits.
- Reopen the destination device and wait for its cloud-save check before selecting a career.
The destination loads an older version
- Stop playing on the destination immediately so you do not create a newer-looking save from the wrong state.
- On the original device, identify the newest intended save and let that save complete its upload.
- Exit cleanly, then compare the available save’s timestamp or in-game date on the destination.
- If several saves exist, load the one with the latest confirmed timestamp rather than relying on the first item in the list.
The career was created on Steam or Epic
This is an edition mismatch, not a delayed upload. The published compatibility boundary does not document a Steam/Epic-to-Xbox import. Continue that career on its original PC edition unless a later FM27 announcement explicitly changes the rule.
The career was created on PS5
Use PS Remote Play to access the PlayStation save. The documented guidance does not describe exporting that save to Windows or importing a Windows save into PS5.

Check whether the destination is Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S/PC. The documented limits are five playable nations on Xbox One and up to ten on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Reconsider the career configuration before switching devices rather than assuming the platform will silently convert it.

What may change after FM27 launches
Football Manager 27 is scheduled for 10 November 2026 on Steam, Epic Games and the Xbox PC app, with FM27 Console on Xbox and PS5. The currently available FM26 compatibility FAQ is the latest published wording that identifies Microsoft Store FMC PC as compatible with Xbox FMC. The FM27 launch announcement confirms platforms and timing but does not add a new save-compatibility matrix.
Because the dedicated FM27 transfer FAQ is not yet published, recheck the official Football Manager and SEGA support pages after launch or before moving a valuable career. A future page could clarify an edition, platform or generation rule; until then, the documented Xbox route remains Microsoft Store Football Manager Console PC paired with Xbox Console, and the PlayStation guidance remains Remote Play access.
Pre-transfer checklist
- Verify the game edition on Windows.
- Verify the destination platform: Xbox or PS5.
- Use the same Xbox/Microsoft account for the compatible Windows-and-Xbox route.
- Check whether the console is Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- Save inside the game and wait for synchronization.
- Exit Football Manager normally so the cloud upload can complete.
- Check the newest timestamp or in-game date on the destination before continuing.
- Keep the original device and its latest local save untouched until the destination has loaded correctly.
- Do not rely on USB storage or generic cloud folders as an import mechanism.
The safest expectation is straightforward: Xbox-to-PC continuation works only within the Football Manager Console/Microsoft Store/Xbox ecosystem described above; Steam and Epic saves remain separate; and PS5 Remote Play provides remote access rather than a Windows-file conversion.
