You can move Samsung Notes to an iPhone by exporting notes as files, transferring those files, then sharing them into Apple Notes. This is a documented file workflow—not a guaranteed conversion of a Samsung Notes archive into fully editable Apple notes. Apple’s Move to iOS instructions do not list Samsung Notes as a transfer category.
What to expect when moving Samsung Notes to an iPhone
Samsung Notes can export notes in several formats, including PDF, text, Word, PowerPoint, images, and Samsung Notes files. Apple’s iPhone instructions support adding a file to Notes through the Files app. Together, these provide a practical way to keep or reuse note content on an iPhone, but do not establish that the note will become a fully editable Apple-native note with its original layout and features.
The best export depends on what you need to preserve: choose PDF for a page-oriented visual record or text for content you want to copy and edit. Samsung notes that screens and settings can vary by device model and software version, so menu names may differ. Samsung’s export-format guidance describes the available file types.
Export a note from Samsung Notes
- Open the note you want to move in Samsung Notes.
- Open the note’s menu and choose the available Share or Save as file option.
- Select an export format. Samsung lists Samsung Notes file, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, image, and text. The exact choices can depend on the device and software version.
- Save or share the exported file somewhere you can access from your iPhone, such as a cloud drive or a computer-mediated transfer. Apple’s Notes guidance explains how to share a file from Files; it does not prescribe a particular cloud provider for this workflow.
Choose the export format for your goal
| What you want | Suggested export | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Keep a visual record, including a handwritten page | A page-oriented file is useful for viewing, but the export does not guarantee that Apple Notes will recreate Samsung’s editable canvas. Samsung lists PDF export; Apple documents sharing files into Notes. Samsung; Apple. | |
| Reuse written content as editable text | Text | Text is suited to copy-and-edit workflows. Apple documents text-file import on Mac and file sharing on iPhone; these are different workflows. Samsung; Apple. |
| Keep a Samsung-format copy for possible future use | Samsung Notes file | Samsung lists this export option, but Apple’s cited Notes instructions do not document importing it as an Apple note. Keep a backup rather than relying on cross-platform compatibility. Samsung; Apple. |
| Keep content in an office-document format | Word or PowerPoint | Samsung lists these export types. Apple’s cited Notes import guidance does not list them among the formats for its Mac import flow; sharing an office file as an attachment is not the same as converting it into a native Apple note. Samsung; Apple. |
Add the exported file to Apple Notes on iPhone
- Make sure the exported file is available in the iPhone’s Files app.
- In Files, touch and hold the file, then tap Share.
- Choose Notes from the share options.
- Save it as a new note or add it to an existing note. Apple says the destination can be iCloud or On My Device.
Apple documents this iPhone and iPad route as sharing a file from Files into Notes. The result is a file or attachment in Notes; Apple does not promise conversion into a fully editable note. See Apple’s instructions for importing or sharing notes and files.

Import text files into Notes on a Mac
If you have a Mac, Apple documents a separate Notes import workflow for TXT, RTF, RTFD, HTML, ENEX, and Markdown files. The import flow can preserve folder structure. This is a Mac feature, not a bulk text-import control on iPhone; on iPhone, use the Files sharing route above. Apple lists the supported Mac import formats and steps.
Will Move to iOS transfer Samsung Notes?
Do not assume it will. Apple lists categories such as contacts, messages, photos and videos, files and folders, mail accounts, and calendars in its Android-to-iPhone transfer guidance; Samsung Notes is not named as a category. Apple also says books and PDFs need to be moved manually. For notes, use the export-and-file workflow rather than relying on Move to iOS to import them into Apple Notes. Apple’s Move from Android to iPhone or iPad guide describes the transfer categories.

What may not carry over
The cited Samsung and Apple instructions do not promise that Samsung-specific formatting, handwriting editability, audio, or other app-specific features will survive export and become native Apple Notes features. Choose a format based on what matters most, and keep the original Samsung Notes files or a backup if you may need the original notes later.
