You can copy eligible playlists and saved music into Apple Music using Apple’s built-in transfer feature. You’ll need an Apple Music subscription, access to the source account, and Sync Library turned on. The process matches songs in Apple Music’s catalog; it does not move audio files or delete anything from the original service.
Before you start
- Have an active Apple Music subscription and be signed in with the Apple Account you use for Apple Music.
- Turn on Sync Library in Apple Music.
- Make sure you can sign in to Spotify or the other source service.
- Check that the feature is available in your country or region. Apple says transfers are provided by a third party and are not available everywhere. Its iPhone guide requires iOS 18.4 or later; check Apple’s current instructions for supported devices and availability.
Transfer playlists with Apple Music
- Open the transfer feature. On iPhone or iPad, open Apple Music, tap your profile or account control, then choose Transfer Music from Other Services. On Android, open the app menu and go to Settings to find the transfer option. On the web, sign in at music.apple.com, open the profile menu, and choose Transfer Music.
- Choose and connect the source service. Select Spotify or another supported service, then sign in and authorize access as prompted.
- Select what to copy. Choose the playlists or other categories Apple Music offers, then tap Add to Library. The source service determines which items are available; supported data may include saved songs or favourites, but not every service provides the same options.
- Review items Apple Music could not match. If you see Some Music Needs Review, inspect the proposed alternatives and add a suitable version or ignore the item. Apple says unmatched alternatives must be reviewed within 30 days. While items remain under review, you cannot start another transfer on that device.
- Check the finished playlists. Look closely at tracks with common titles, live or remastered editions, and music that may differ by country. A missing match does not mean the source track was removed. Explicit songs can appear greyed out if explicit content is disabled.
What transfers—and what stays behind
The transfer copies eligible playlist and library information and matches it to music available in Apple Music. It does not transfer streaming audio files or offline downloads as files. Your original collection remains in the source service.

Matches are not guaranteed to be one-to-one. Apple Music may not have a source track, or it may suggest a different edition, such as a live or deluxe release. Catalog differences, regional availability, metadata, alternate releases, and missing identifiers can all contribute to mismatches.
Apple says liked or loved songs can be added to Apple Music’s Favourite Songs playlist when the source supports that transfer. User-created playlists are more likely to be offered than editorial or automatically generated playlists, so check the available categories rather than assuming every playlist can be copied.

When to use a third-party transfer service
If Apple’s built-in option does not support your source, region, or preferred transfer type, services such as Soundiiz and TuneMyMusic offer other routes. Both describe transfers involving Spotify and Apple Music, but capabilities and limits can vary by platform, plan, and destination. Compare the exact route and data types you need before connecting accounts.

Soundiiz reports successful, partial, or failed results and transfers playlist or favourite data rather than audio files. For any third-party option, compare whether it supports your region and route, what data moves, playlist and track limits, how unmatched items are reported, whether batch transfers or ongoing sync cost extra, and whether it requires authorization for both accounts. No independent accuracy comparison establishes which service matches the most tracks.

Why some songs did not transfer
- No Apple Music catalog match: The track may be unavailable in Apple Music or in your region.
- A different edition was matched: Check whether the result is the intended studio, live, remastered, or deluxe version.
- Metadata differs: Different titles, artist credits, releases, or missing identifiers can prevent an exact match.
- The source did not offer that item: Available categories depend on the source service, and some generated playlists may not be eligible.
- Explicit-content settings hide a song: If explicit tracks are greyed out, check the content restrictions on your device or account.
