You cannot transfer a complete zoo save between Career, Sandbox and Franchise in Planet Zoo 2. Each mode keeps its own animals, money, research, accreditation, objectives and progression. To reuse work, save a habitat, building, scenery section or other construction as a blueprint, then place that creation in a zoo in the other mode through the Frontier Workshop or the in-game blueprint browser. The construction can be reused; the original zoo remains a separate save.
The save boundary: complete zoos stay in their original mode
Planet Zoo 2 treats Career, Sandbox and Franchise as separate progression environments. Opening the same game does not create one shared zoo file, and the Planet Hub menu appearing across modes does not merge their saves. A Career zoo cannot be opened as a fully developed Sandbox zoo, and a Franchise zoo cannot be converted into a Sandbox or Career save.
This means a direct mode-to-mode transfer will not carry the things that make a zoo a running operation: animals and their breeding records, cash, staff, research, guest facilities, scenario objectives, ratings, unlocks or accreditation. You must create or load a destination zoo and set up those systems again.
The Planet Zoo 2 mode guide summarizes the boundary plainly: zoos do not transfer between modes, so the first hour in a new mode should be treated as a test period. That is useful advice when deciding whether to invest in a long-term build: verify the mode and settings before spending substantial time on the full zoo.

The official Steam description distinguishes Franchise’s global zoo network and animal trading from Sandbox’s unlimited creativity. That distinction is about how zoos operate within their own modes, not a cross-mode save system.
How to reuse a zoo build in another mode
Blueprint sharing is the supported way to move construction between modes. You can save a complete habitat, a building, a scenery group or another player-created section as a creation, keep it in your personal library, or publish it to the Frontier Workshop. The destination zoo then loads that creation and places a copy.
- Open the source zoo. Load the Career, Sandbox or Franchise zoo that contains the construction you want to reuse. Make sure you are editing the intended save; a blueprint records the selected construction, not the entire zoo’s operating state.
- Select the construction. Highlight the habitat, building, scenery group or other section you want to preserve. Include the walls, paths, barriers, decorations and facilities that should form one reusable unit. If an item is left outside the selection, it will not appear when the blueprint is placed.
- Save it as a blueprint or creation. Use the game’s save-creation or Workshop command. Give the item a descriptive name and, where available, add tags or a description that identify its size, intended animals and entrance orientation.
- Choose private or Workshop storage. Retain the creation in your personal library when it is only for your own modes, or publish it through Frontier Workshop when you want it available from the Workshop browser. Workshop creations can be explored, downloaded, subscribed to and placed in zoos across supported platforms according to Steam’s official listing.
- Open the destination mode. Start or load the target Career scenario, Sandbox zoo or Franchise zoo. The destination must be a separate zoo; importing a blueprint does not reopen or overwrite the source save.
- Open the blueprint or Workshop browser. Search your saved creations, subscriptions or published items. If the item is missing, check that you are using the same account and that the creation finished saving or publishing before you changed modes.
- Place and adapt the creation. Position the blueprint in the destination zoo, connect paths and utilities, and adjust terrain, barriers and entrances to fit the new site. A placement copy is independent of the original construction.
- Rebuild the operating systems. Add or assign animals, staff, finances, research, guest services and objectives appropriate to the destination mode. Save the destination zoo under its own name and keep the source save intact.
What a blueprint carries—and what it does not
A blueprint is a construction package, not a portable management state. Thinking of it as a reusable design prevents the most common transfer mistakes.

Frontier has stated that accreditation is entirely separate for each game mode: Career medals do not advance Franchise accreditation, and Franchise accreditation does not advance Career. Blueprint placement therefore cannot be used to bypass a mode’s progression requirements.
Career to Sandbox: the narrow export option
Some Career scenarios have a limited export path to Sandbox. Frontier patch notes mention a fixed “Terrain Only” option for exporting a Career scenario to Sandbox. This option should be read literally: it is a narrow scenario-terrain export, not a general conversion of a completed Career zoo.
A terrain-only export does not establish that animals, inventory, finances, research, objectives, accreditation or other progression will follow you. If your goal is to preserve a designed habitat or building, saving that construction as a blueprint is the dependable workflow. If your goal is to continue the whole Career scenario in a creative environment, no complete mode-transfer feature is documented.

Franchise questions: animals, money and network sharing
Can Franchise animals be used in Career or Sandbox?
Not by transferring the animal records. Franchise has its own connected network, and animals, money and research can link zoos inside that Franchise network. That relationship does not extend into Career or Sandbox. To use the same species in another mode, obtain or place animals through the destination mode’s available systems rather than expecting a Franchise roster to appear.

Does Franchise trading create cross-mode co-op?
No. Trading with other players is a Franchise feature, not a shared editing session for a Career or Sandbox zoo. The available guidance describes Workshop sharing as asynchronous distribution of creations: one player saves or publishes a design, and another downloads and places it. It does not describe simultaneous multiplayer editing of one zoo.
Can I move a Franchise zoo into Sandbox and keep its network?
No. You can recreate its visual design with blueprints, but the destination Sandbox zoo has no Franchise network identity, trading history, animals, funds or research from the source. Treat the imported structure as a starting shell and configure the Sandbox rules and contents separately.

Planet Hub does not combine saves
Planet Hub is a menu available across the modes for viewing locations, performance and related systems. Its cross-mode visibility can make the game feel as if all zoos belong to one shared account state, but it is not a save-conversion tool. A location shown in Planet Hub remains associated with its original mode, and selecting it does not turn a Career, Sandbox or Franchise zoo into another type.

The blueprint is not in the browser
- Confirm that the creation was actually saved, rather than only selected in the source zoo.
- Check the personal library as well as the Workshop area; a private creation may not appear in public searches.
- If you published it, wait for the upload to complete and verify that you are signed in to the same platform account in the destination mode.
- Use the exact creation name or the creator filter instead of a broad search that can return many results.
The placed structure is incomplete
- Reopen the source zoo and inspect the original selection. Objects outside the saved group are not part of the blueprint.
- Save separate blueprints for large complexes if the game limits selection size or if you need independent placement of habitats, staff areas and guest buildings.
- After placement, reconnect paths and utilities. A blueprint can contain construction but still require destination-specific power, water, staff access or terrain work.
The blueprint will not place
- Check the destination terrain and rotate or flatten the site so the footprint fits.
- Make sure the destination mode has access to any required construction items; a visual design does not automatically unlock research-gated objects.
- Remove conflicting paths, barriers or scenery and try a clear placement area.
- In Franchise, confirm that the current zoo has the funds and space to install the construction; a blueprint does not provide free operating money.
Progress appears to be missing
Missing animals, money, research, objectives or accreditation is expected after blueprint reuse. Those values belong to the source mode and save. Recreate them through the destination’s normal systems rather than deleting the source zoo or repeatedly republishing the same construction.
The source zoo changed after publishing
A published blueprint is a snapshot of the selected construction at save time. Later edits to the source zoo do not silently update copies already placed elsewhere. Save a new version with a clear name when you make substantial changes, and leave the original version available if another zoo still depends on it.

A practical planning method before you start
Use this checklist to avoid building around the wrong assumptions:
- Choose the destination mode first. Decide whether the target is a guided Career scenario, an open Sandbox map or a Franchise network. The choice determines the economy, available progression and animal-management rules you must rebuild.
- Separate design from operations. Mark which parts are visual construction and which parts depend on animals, research, money or objectives. Save the visual parts as one or more blueprints.
- Make a test placement. Place the creation in a small test area before designing the entire destination zoo around it. This catches scale, terrain, path and utility problems while changes are still cheap.
- Document mode-specific requirements. Note the species the habitat was designed for, the number of gates, staff access points, required utilities and any research-gated objects. These notes help you rebuild the operating side without assuming it transferred.
- Keep independent saves. Use distinct names for the source and destination zoos. Blueprint reuse is additive; it should never be treated as a conversion that replaces the original.
Answers to the questions players ask most
Can I move my Career zoo to Sandbox?
Not as a complete zoo save. You can reuse its construction through a blueprint, and certain Career scenarios have a limited terrain-only export, but animals, finances, research, objectives and accreditation do not become Sandbox progress.
Can I transfer a Franchise zoo to Sandbox?
No. Save the buildings, habitats or scenery as blueprints and place copies in Sandbox. The Franchise network, animal records, funds and research remain in Franchise.
Can I share one zoo between Career, Sandbox and Franchise?
No. Keep one save per mode. Share designs, not the complete operating state.
Does Planet Hub share saves?
No. Planet Hub can show information across modes, but it does not merge or convert their zoo saves.
Can another player edit my zoo with me?
The documented sharing method is Workshop distribution of saved creations, not simultaneous co-op editing. Another player can download and place a blueprint, while the original zoo remains under its owner’s save.
