Short answer: Nintendo and Bethesda document The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered as a Nintendo Switch 2 release, not an original Nintendo Switch release. Therefore, there is no documented Switch-origin Oblivion Remastered save to transfer. If you mean a compatible Switch game with a Switch 2 version, use Nintendo’s nearby-console save-data transfer; it requires both consoles to be online, close together and using users linked to the same Nintendo Account, but it does not require Nintendo Switch Online. Saves from the 2006 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion also cannot be imported into Remastered.
Determine which Oblivion save you actually have
Several different situations are commonly described as an “Oblivion save transfer.” The correct answer depends on the game and the console that created the save.
| Save or game situation | Can it move to Switch 2? | What the official information establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Oblivion Remastered save created on an original Nintendo Switch | No documented path | Nintendo’s product information and Bethesda’s launch information identify Remastered on Nintendo as a Switch 2 release. They do not document an original-Switch version. |
| Oblivion Remastered save created on Switch 2 | Use the normal Switch 2 save and cloud features supported by the game | The Switch 2 listing marks Save Data Cloud as supported for that release. |
| Original 2006 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion save | No, not into Remastered | Bethesda Support says original-game save files are not supported by Oblivion Remastered. |
| A save from another platform, such as Xbox or PC | No general cross-platform route | Bethesda does not support cross-save between different platforms. Xbox Play Anywhere synchronization is a separate Xbox-console/Xbox-PC exception and does not connect to Switch or Switch 2. |
Check the title shown on the game icon, cartridge packaging and software information before attempting a transfer. A save created by the original 2006 game is a different file format and progression system from Remastered, even though the games share the same setting and story.
If you are buying the Nintendo release now, distinguish the Switch 2 edition from older listings that mention only the original game. Bethesda documents a physical Nintendo Switch 2 cartridge edition of Oblivion Remastered Deluxe Edition containing the complete base game and expansions. That packaging can help confirm which software you own, but it does not create compatibility with an original 2006 save.

The official nearby-console transfer route
Nintendo’s nearby-console process is the appropriate method for moving save data between an original Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 when the software is compatible with the transfer feature. It works over a local connection between the consoles. Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for this method.
Requirements
- Both consoles must be connected to the internet and updated enough to use Nintendo’s transfer feature.
- Keep the original Switch and Switch 2 near each other during the transfer. Do not move one console out of range while the process is running.
- The source and destination users must be linked to the same Nintendo Account. A different local user, even with the same game installed, will not match the save automatically.
- The game must support the relevant save-data feature on both systems. A Switch 2 release alone does not prove that an original-Switch release or a compatible save exists.
- Have the correct software installed or available on the destination console so you can test the transferred data immediately.
Step-by-step procedure
- Connect both consoles to the internet. On each system, open System Settings and check for a system update before starting.
- Place the consoles close together, with both powered on and signed in to the intended local users.
- On the source console, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data. Choose the option to send save data.
- Select the local user who owns the save, then choose the game and confirm that it is the data you intend to send.
- On Switch 2, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data and choose the receive option. Select the matching user and game when they appear.
- Follow the on-screen confirmation prompts on both consoles. Keep them near each other and do not close the settings screens until Nintendo reports that the transfer is complete.
- Start the game on Switch 2 using the receiving user. Open the game’s load menu and verify that the expected character, location and progress are present.
The exact wording of a prompt can vary with system software, but the important distinction is send on the original console and receive on Switch 2. If the game or user does not appear, stop rather than selecting a different account; the absence usually indicates a compatibility or account mismatch.
Use the transfer screen rather than copying a cartridge or moving the game icon. Save data is managed separately from the software installation, so reinstalling the title on Switch 2 does not by itself bring over progress. The receiving console must also use the matching local user; installing the same game under another profile does not make the source save visible.
Nearby transfer versus Save Data Cloud
Nintendo provides two different mechanisms, and they have different requirements and limitations.
| Characteristic | Nearby-console transfer | Save Data Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Both consoles online and physically near each other | Internet access to upload and download a backup |
| Nintendo Switch Online | Not required, according to Nintendo’s local-transfer guidance | Required |
| Account identity | Source and destination users must be linked to the same Nintendo Account | Use the same Nintendo Account membership and user when backing up and restoring |
| Data source | Reads the save from the source console during the transfer | Reads the previously uploaded cloud backup |
| Best use | Moving data when both consoles are available at the same time | Restoring data when the consoles are in different places or the source console is unavailable |
| Switch 2 additions | Depends on software compatibility | Nintendo warns that Switch 2 features or content are not made available when the same save is used on Switch |
For the Switch 2 release of Oblivion Remastered, Nintendo’s regional product listing marks Save Data Cloud as supported. That establishes cloud support for the Switch 2 software, not a hidden original-Switch version. Check the exact software version shown on the source console before relying on a cloud restore.
Choose nearby transfer when both systems are in front of you and you want Nintendo’s direct console-to-console process. Choose cloud only when the save has already been backed up and the account has Nintendo Switch Online. Neither method converts an original Oblivion save into a Remastered save or imports a file from Xbox or PC.

Using Save Data Cloud when both consoles cannot be together
Cloud backup is an alternative only when you have Nintendo Switch Online and the game exposes the feature for the relevant version.
Back up the save
- On the console that currently contains the save, confirm that the intended user is signed in to the Nintendo Account with Nintendo Switch Online.
- Open System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud.
- Select the user and the game. Choose the command to back up or upload the save data, then wait for the upload to finish.
- Record which user and software version you used. Cloud saves belong to the account and user, not simply to the game cartridge.
Download the backup on Switch 2
- Sign in to the same Nintendo Account and select the matching local user on Switch 2.
- Open System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud.
- Select the game and choose the command to download the cloud save.
- Launch the game and check the load screen. If the expected progress is missing, return to the cloud menu and verify the account, user and backup timestamp before trying another restore.
Nintendo’s cloud guidance includes an important compatibility warning: when a title has Switch 2 features or content, those additions are not made accessible when the same save is used on Nintendo Switch. Do not interpret a successful cloud download as proof that every Switch 2 enhancement will function on an older console.
Why an Oblivion Remastered save may be missing on Switch 2
You had the original 2006 game, not Remastered
Bethesda Support explicitly says that saves from the original The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion cannot be transferred into Oblivion Remastered. The games are not interchangeable save targets. Reinstalling the original game, copying files, or changing the local user cannot convert that progress into a Remastered save.
You expected an original-Switch Remastered save
Nintendo and Bethesda identify Remastered on Nintendo as a Switch 2 release. Because an original-Switch release is not documented in those official listings, there is no verified Switch-to-Switch 2 Remastered save path to follow. Check the software information screen and cartridge label: a Switch 2 edition and an original Switch edition are not the same assumption as a backward-compatible save.
The wrong local user is selected
Save data is associated with a user. On Switch 2, choose the user linked to the same Nintendo Account as the source user. A second profile on the same console will not necessarily see the transferred data.
The game does not appear in the transfer list
- Confirm that both systems are online and near each other.
- Install pending system updates and restart both consoles.
- Reopen the transfer screen on the source and destination rather than launching the game first.
- Verify that you selected the intended user on both systems.
- Check whether the software is actually compatible with the transfer feature. Nintendo’s procedure applies to compatible software; it cannot create compatibility for an unsupported title.
The cloud option is unavailable
Save Data Cloud requires Nintendo Switch Online, and the game must support the feature. If the option is missing, verify the subscription, Nintendo Account and software edition before assuming that the local save is corrupt. Nearby-console transfer remains the subscription-free option when both systems are present and the title is compatible.

The transfer completes but the expected progress is not visible
First, quit and relaunch the game under the receiving user. Then check the game’s load list rather than only its “continue” shortcut. If no matching save exists, review the source user, title name and transfer confirmation. Do not overwrite a known-good destination save until you have identified which account and version produced it.
You are checking the wrong edition
Compare the title name in the Home menu, the software-information screen and the cartridge or store listing. “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” and “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered” are separate products. Likewise, a Nintendo Switch 2 listing is not evidence that the same Remastered build was released for the original Switch.
Cross-save and platform limits
Oblivion Remastered does not provide a general cross-platform save system. A save made on a different platform cannot be copied into the Switch 2 release through a Bethesda account or an in-game login. Bethesda documents Xbox Play Anywhere synchronization between Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app as an exception, but that service does not extend to Nintendo hardware.

A decision checklist before you start
- Identify the title: Is the save from Remastered or the original 2006 Oblivion?
- Identify the source hardware: Was it created on an original Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, PC or another platform?
- Check the Nintendo edition: Nintendo’s official listing identifies Remastered as a Switch 2 release; do not assume an original-Switch edition exists because the series is familiar.
- Choose a method: Use nearby transfer when both consoles are together; use Save Data Cloud only with Nintendo Switch Online and a supported title.
- Match the account: Select users linked to the same Nintendo Account on both consoles.
- Verify after transfer: Launch the game on Switch 2 and inspect the actual load list.
- Keep expectations realistic: Original Oblivion saves and saves from other platforms cannot be imported into Remastered.
What to do in each common scenario
You have an original Switch and a Switch 2, but no Remastered save
There is nothing to transfer for Remastered if the original console never had a documented Remastered release or save. Install and play the Switch 2 edition on Switch 2. The nearby-transfer menu cannot manufacture a source save for a title that was not released on that console.
You have a compatible Switch game and want to move its save
Use the nearby-console procedure: update both systems, place them together, select the same-Nintendo-Account users, choose send on the source and receive on Switch 2, then verify the save in the game. Nintendo Switch Online is not needed for this local process.

You have an original Oblivion save and bought Remastered
Start a new Remastered save. Bethesda’s compatibility guidance rules out importing original-game progress, so neither local transfer nor Save Data Cloud changes that limitation.

You are choosing between digital and physical Switch 2 software
The transfer rules concern save compatibility and account identity, not whether the game is downloaded or on a cartridge. If you prefer physical media, Bethesda’s documented Deluxe Edition cartridge includes the complete base game and expansions. Confirm that the listing is specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 before purchasing; an unrelated original-game listing will not provide a Remastered save.

The premise needs a version check: official Nintendo and Bethesda information documents Oblivion Remastered on Nintendo as a Switch 2 release, so an original-Switch Remastered save is not established. For any compatible Switch software, Nintendo’s nearby-console transfer is the direct method and does not require Nintendo Switch Online. Cloud restoration requires Nintendo Switch Online, while original 2006 Oblivion saves and saves from other platforms cannot be imported into Remastered.
Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Nintendo Switch Online for cloud restore?
Yes. Save Data Cloud requires Nintendo Switch Online, and the relevant software must support cloud saves. The Switch 2 listing for Oblivion Remastered marks that feature as supported for the Switch 2 release.
Why is my Oblivion save missing on Switch 2?
Check whether it is an original 2006 Oblivion save, a save from another platform, or a save tied to a different local user. Those situations do not provide a supported Remastered import path. Also verify the software edition and Nintendo Account.
Can I move original Oblivion saves into Oblivion Remastered?
No. Bethesda Support says saves from the original The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion are not supported by Oblivion Remastered. Neither local transfer nor cloud restore converts them.
Recommended Free Tools
Does Oblivion Remastered have cross-save?
Bethesda does not support general cross-platform saves for the game. Xbox Play Anywhere synchronization is limited to Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app and does not connect to Nintendo Switch 2.
What should I do if the game is not listed during nearby transfer?
Confirm that both systems are updated, online and close together; reopen the transfer screens; select the intended users; and verify that the title supports the transfer feature. Do not substitute another account or assume the game is compatible.
Will Switch 2 features appear when I use the same save on Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo warns that Switch 2 features or content are not made accessible when the same save is used on Nintendo Switch. A successful cloud download does not make Switch 2 additions available on the older console.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Oblivion Remastered is documented for Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Switch, so there is no established original-Switch Remastered save to transfer. For compatible software, nearby-console transfer is free of Nintendo Switch Online; cloud restore requires the subscription. Original 2006 Oblivion saves and saves from Xbox or PC cannot be imported into Remastered.
