Short answer: sign in to the same Activision account on both devices, but plan to re-enter your controller settings manually. Activision documents cross-progression for account-linked game progress, yet the Modern Warfare 4 support material reviewed here does not document cloud synchronization for button bindings, sensitivity, dead zones, aim-assist choices, vibration, or other input preferences. Photograph or record the old setup, reproduce it on the new platform, and test it before playing online.
What actually transfers between platforms
Modern Warfare 4 separates account progress from local input preferences. Activision’s registration and account-management guidance says that online play uses an Activision account and that progression is stored with that account for continued play on another linked platform. In practical terms, the same Activision identity is the foundation for carrying over account-linked game data.
That documented scope does not automatically include every option in the Controller menu. The Modern Warfare 4 material reviewed for this guide does not identify controller bindings, stick sensitivity, ADS sensitivity, dead zones, trigger behavior, vibration, aim-assist selections, or gameplay toggles as synchronized cross-progression data. Treat those settings as device-local unless the game itself clearly displays a current synchronization or import feature.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

| Item | Documented behavior | What to do on the new device |
|---|---|---|
| Activision account identity | Required for online play and cross-progression | Sign in with the same Activision account |
| Progression and account-linked game data | Stored with the Activision/Call of Duty account and carried across linked platforms | Allow the account to load; do not create or select a different Activision identity |
| Button layout and custom bindings | Automatic transfer is not documented | Copy the values manually |
| Look, aim, and ADS sensitivity | Automatic transfer is not documented | Record each value and re-enter it |
| Stick and trigger dead zones | Automatic transfer is not documented | Record minimum and maximum values, then verify movement and firing |
| Vibration, aim assist, and gameplay toggles | Automatic transfer is not documented | Recreate the selections and test them in a safe environment |
This distinction explains why a player can see familiar progression after signing in while still finding default controls on a new console or PC. An account can be correct even when local input preferences have not followed it.

Before moving: protect the account that owns your progress
Do not begin by unlinking accounts. First establish which Activision account is currently connected to the old console or PC. Open the account-management area associated with Modern Warfare 4, verify the account identifier, and check the connected platform identities. The old device must remain linked to the account whose progress you intend to keep.
Activision’s warning is explicit: Please note: If you choose to link your PlayStation, XBOX, Battle.net, Steam, or Nintendo account to another Activision account, you will not have access to your progress.
A relink can therefore create a progress-access problem even though the platform hardware itself is functioning normally.
- Write down or photograph the Activision account identifier shown on the old device.
- Confirm that the PlayStation, Xbox, or Battle.net identity you are moving is attached to that account.
- Do not accept a prompt to create a new Activision account if you already have one.
- Keep the old device available until the new device has loaded your expected progression and your controls have been tested.
- If another person owns the target platform, sign out of their game account before starting the transfer.
If you are unsure which account is active, stop before changing links. Recovering the correct account is safer than trying several relinking combinations and risking loss of access to the prior progression.
Record the old controller setup completely
A single screenshot of the first Controller page is rarely enough. Modern Warfare 4 settings can be spread across several pages, and a missed toggle can make the new device feel wrong even when the main sensitivity number matches. Use photographs, screen captures, or a written worksheet while the old setup is still available.

Button and stick layout
- Note the selected button-layout preset, such as the default or an alternate preset.
- Record every custom reassignment, including interact, reload, crouch, prone, jump, sprint, melee, equipment, and weapon-switch actions.
- Record whether stick-click actions are exchanged or combined with another command.
- Capture left- and right-stick behavior, including inversion and any response-curve choice shown by the game.
Aiming and camera values
- Record horizontal and vertical look sensitivity separately if the menu exposes both.
- Record ADS sensitivity and any multiplier or per-zoom values.
- Note aiming behavior while firing, sprinting, or using vehicles when those controls have their own entries.
- Capture aim-assist settings exactly as displayed rather than relying on memory.
Dead zones, triggers, and feedback
- Write down left-stick and right-stick minimum dead zones and any maximum dead-zone or threshold values.
- Record trigger dead zones or activation thresholds if they are available.
- Note vibration, haptic, or controller-feedback choices.
- Capture any accessibility, hold-versus-toggle, auto-sprint, or other gameplay input toggles that affect how a command behaves.
Use a consistent worksheet so the values can be checked line by line:

Photograph the completed pages as well as writing the numbers. A picture preserves the exact label and order, which helps when a platform presents the same option differently.
Step-by-step transfer procedure
- Open Modern Warfare 4 on the old device. Go to the game’s controller or input settings and capture every page that contains a value or toggle you use. Include gameplay and vehicle-control pages if you have changed them.
- Verify the active Activision account. In the account or profile area, confirm that the old platform is linked to the intended account. If the account is unclear, resolve that identity before disconnecting anything.
- Leave the old links intact. Do not move a PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, or Nintendo identity to a different Activision account. Activision states that linking one of those identities elsewhere removes access to the previous progress.
- Install or launch the game on the target platform. The support hub identifies PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Battle.net as supported online platforms for Modern Warfare 4. A PC installation using Battle.net should use the same Activision sign-in as the old device.
- Sign in with the same Activision account. When the game asks for an account, use the account verified in step 2. Do not substitute the platform owner’s separate Activision account.
- Wait for account data to load. Check that your expected progression and unlocks are present before spending time tuning controls. If the account appears empty, stop and investigate the account link instead of trying to repair settings.
- Open the target device’s controller settings. Reproduce the recorded button preset and custom bindings first. Then enter look, ADS, per-zoom, dead-zone, trigger, aim-assist, vibration, and gameplay-toggle values.
- Save or apply each page. Some menus require an Apply, Save, or confirmation action after editing. Leave the settings menu and return to it once to verify that the values persisted.
- Test in a private match, training area, or another noncompetitive environment. Check movement, camera direction, ADS, sprint, crouch or prone, reload, equipment, weapon switching, and vehicle actions. Make one change at a time if something feels incorrect.
- Only then enter public or competitive play. Keep the worksheet until the new platform feels correct and you have confirmed that future changes are being made on the intended device.
Platform and input considerations
PlayStation 5 to PC
For a PS5-to-PC move, the account requirement is the same as for any other supported-platform change: the PC session must use the Activision account that owns the existing progression. A controller connected to the PC is a separate input device from the PS5 controller, so reproduce the recorded layout and sensitivity rather than assuming the game will import them.

Xbox Series X|S to PC
Use the same Activision identity on the PC installation and keep the Xbox identity linked to it. Re-enter the worksheet values on the PC, then test the Xbox controller or another supported controller that you plan to use regularly. A different stick or trigger can require a different dead-zone adjustment even when the numeric values are copied accurately.
Console-to-console changes
When moving between supported consoles, the account rule does not change. Sign in with the same Activision account, confirm progression, and manually recreate the settings. Do not assume that two controllers with similar layouts have identical trigger travel, stick wear, or button feel; test the physical device as well as the menu values.
Cloud gaming or remote sessions
Activision’s cloud-gaming guidance says Call of Duty games require a supported controller or mouse and keyboard. A cloud session can therefore fail to accept input even when your account and in-game settings are correct if the connected hardware is not supported. Confirm controller compatibility with the cloud service, then use the same manual settings procedure if the game presents its own controller menu.

- Reload, interact, switch weapons, throw equipment, melee, and jump using the recorded commands.
- Enter ADS and make small corrections, then make a full turn to detect a sensitivity mismatch.
- Test each zoom level if per-zoom multipliers were configured.
- Release both sticks and observe whether the view or movement drifts. Drift can indicate hardware wear rather than a transfer error.
- Fire or aim while checking vibration and aim-assist behavior against the recorded choices.
- Drive or operate a vehicle if vehicle controls were customized.
If one action is wrong, compare that setting with the photograph before changing unrelated values. A controlled, one-setting-at-a-time correction makes it easier to identify whether the error came from transcription, a different menu page, or the controller hardware.

Your progression is missing on the new device
This is primarily an account-link problem, not a controller-settings problem. Sign out if necessary, return to the Activision account used on the old device, and verify that the target platform is linked to that same account. Do not create a new account to test the game; doing so can make the account relationship harder to track.
The game loaded your progression but controls are at default
This is consistent with the documented difference between cross-progression and local input preferences. Use the worksheet and photographs to enter the settings manually. The reviewed Modern Warfare 4 documentation does not provide an export/import file or promise automatic controller-setting sync.

Check the controller itself, the active input device, stick inversion, ADS or per-zoom multipliers, and dead zones. A worn stick, a different controller model, or an unintended remapping layer can change the feel without changing the game’s displayed sensitivity. Test with one controller connected and compare each relevant setting to the old record.

A button works in the menu but not in a match
Recheck whether the command is a hold or toggle and whether a context-specific page, such as vehicle controls, overrides the general binding. Save the setting, leave the menu, and test the exact action in a private or training environment before returning to public play.
The controller is not recognized during cloud play
Verify that the controller is supported by the cloud-gaming service and connected before launching the session. Activision’s guidance requires a supported controller or mouse and keyboard for Call of Duty cloud gaming. Account synchronization cannot correct an unsupported input device.
You already linked the platform to another Activision account
Stop changing links repeatedly. The account-registration warning says that linking a platform identity to another Activision account removes access to the previous progress. Determine which Activision account originally held the progression and use the service’s account-management or support route to resolve the link before continuing with controller setup.
Can settings be copied automatically?
There is no documented automatic controller-settings transfer in the Modern Warfare 4 materials reviewed here. Activision documents cross-progression for account-linked progress, but it does not identify input preferences as part of that synchronization. Accordingly, do not promise that signing into the same account will copy bindings, sensitivity, dead zones, aim assist, vibration, or gameplay toggles.
The dependable method is a manual copy: capture the old values, sign in to the same account on the target platform, enter the values, and verify the result. If a future game update adds a visible settings export, import, or synchronization control, follow the instructions displayed by that version; until then, retain your worksheet as the portable record.
Transfer methods compared
| Approach | Account identity | Setting scope | Automation | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Same-account sign-in plus manual entry | Same Activision account on both devices | Bindings, sensitivity, dead zones, aim assist, vibration, and toggles can all be reproduced from a record | Progression is account-linked; controller values are entered manually | Recommended for console-to-console or console-to-PC moves |
| Fresh or different Activision account | Not the account that owns the old progression | No reliable settings or progression continuity | Not a transfer method | Use only when intentionally starting separately |
| Platform relink to another Activision account | Changes the platform’s account relationship | Can prevent access to prior progression | Does not provide documented settings import | Avoid when the goal is to preserve existing progress |
| Photographs or written worksheet | Independent of account identity | Captures every local input value you choose to record | Manual transcription | Reliable backup for any supported target platform |
A reusable checklist for future device changes
- Confirm the old device’s Activision account and linked platform identity.
- Photograph every changed controller, aim, dead-zone, trigger, feedback, and gameplay setting.
- Keep the old device and account links unchanged until verification is complete.
- Install Modern Warfare 4 on the target platform and use the same Activision account.
- Confirm progression before editing controls.
- Enter settings manually and save each page.
- Test basic movement, aiming, ADS, actions, and vehicles privately.
- Check controller compatibility for any cloud-gaming session.
- Keep the worksheet for the next console, PC, controller, or account recovery event.
The practical answer for PS5, Xbox, and Battle.net players
For a PS5-to-PC, Xbox Series X|S-to-PC, or supported console-to-console move, use one Activision account for the documented cross-progression, preserve the existing platform links, and manually recreate the controller profile. Progression should be associated with the account; controller preferences should be treated as local until Activision explicitly documents synchronization. That workflow avoids the two costly mistakes: signing into the wrong account and assuming that familiar progress means the old controls have also transferred.
