A JAR is not an Android APK, so Android cannot install it as an ordinary app. Save-file locations depend on the emulator and Android’s storage restrictions; there is no verified universal J2ME Loader path.
Transfer a JAR game to Android
- Find the game files. Locate the
.jargame package. If a matching.jaddescriptor came with it, keep the two files together. Some emulator projects document importing both formats, but that does not establish that every game or emulator needs a JAD file. - Copy the files to the device. Use a transfer method available to you, such as copying from a computer or using a cloud or file-sharing service. For the Android Studio emulator specifically, Android Developers documents dragging a file onto the emulator screen; it is placed in
/sdcard/Download/. Open Downloads or Files to locate it. This destination is documented for Android Studio’s emulator, not for every third-party emulator. Android Developers: Install and add files. - Import the JAR in a J2ME emulator. Open an Android emulator that supports Java ME games, choose its import or open-game action, and select the JAR from the location where you copied it. RezRetro, for example, documents importing
.jarand.jadfiles; its workflow is not a guide to the screens or compatibility of every emulator. RezRetro README. - Launch the game. Once imported, start it from the emulator. Compatibility can vary by game and emulator; the cited documentation does not establish that a particular JAR will run successfully in every Android J2ME emulator.
Why old Java-phone instructions are different
Java ME games were made for Java-capable phones. An LG feature-phone manual describes transferring JAR or JAD files to that phone and installing them from its menus, using methods such as Bluetooth, USB mass storage, or external memory. That is historical feature-phone guidance, not an Android installation method: on Android, use a compatible emulator. LG feature-phone manual.
Where J2ME Loader saves games
No exact, authoritative current save-data path for J2ME Loader is established here. Do not assume that a folder reported for a different emulator is also used by J2ME Loader. Check the documentation or settings for the specific emulator version you use, and identify its app data directory for your Android version before attempting to copy files.
Android apps commonly keep persistent data and cache files in app-specific storage. Access to private app data is restricted in many situations, and what you can inspect depends on Android version, app design, and emulator packaging. Android Developers notes that Device Explorer visibility has limits; much device data is not visible unless the device is rooted or the emulator uses a standard AOSP system image. Do not confuse emulator save paths
RezRetro documents persistent RMS databases in its own data/saves/ directory. That is a RezRetro-specific layout; it does not confirm a J2ME Loader location. Before backing up, check whether your emulator supports exporting or backing up its data, and whether Android makes that data accessible on your device.

What to check before moving or backing up saves
- Confirm the emulator name and version rather than relying on a path from another Java ME emulator.
- Check the emulator’s own documentation or settings for save-data export, backup, or storage-location guidance.
- Check whether your Android version and device configuration allow access to the relevant app-specific files.
- Back up the emulator data only through a supported method and only when the storage is actually accessible; the available evidence does not establish a universal manual-copy procedure for J2ME Loader.
