Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo move data from an old Android phone to a Nokia phone, back up the old phone first, then use Google backup restore, a compatible USB cable during Nokia setup, or a transfer app. The Google restore route requires the Google account used for the backup and an internet connection for syncing. These instructions cover Android-to-Android transfers; they do not establish an iPhone-to-Nokia migration process.
Before you start
- Back up the old Android phone before beginning. HMD lists Google Drive backup and restore, a USB cable during setup, and a dedicated transfer app as the available approaches. HMD’s Android transfer guide
- Have the Google account used for the backup ready if you plan to restore from Google.
- Connect the Nokia to the internet when restoring or syncing an account.
- Check the setup guide for your exact Nokia model. Menu names and paths vary by model and software. See the HMD support page to find device-specific guidance.
Choose a transfer method
| Method | Use it when | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Google backup and restore | A backup exists, or you can create one on the old Android phone. | Sign in to the same Google account on the Nokia and follow the setup prompts. Internet access is needed for sync. |
| USB cable during setup | You can connect the phones with a compatible data-transfer cable. | HMD describes using the original USB-C cable and following the on-screen instructions. Cable and port compatibility depend on the two phones. |
| Transfer app | You prefer an app-based transfer flow. | HMD lists this as an option but does not specify one app or document its compatibility and transfer coverage. |
Restore from a Google backup
- On the old Android phone, create or update its Google backup. The exact controls depend on the phone and software version; use that phone’s current support instructions if you cannot find the backup setting.
- Start setting up the Nokia. When prompted for a restore option, choose Restore from Google Backup.
- Sign in with the Google account that was used for the backup, then follow the prompts to choose and restore available data.
- Connect the Nokia to the internet and allow account data to sync. HMD’s Nokia setup guidance describes adding a Google account, selecting data to restore, and letting sync complete. See the Nokia setup guidance for model-specific steps.
HMD’s guidance says app settings and Wi-Fi passwords can be restored when Google backup was enabled on the previous Android device. Do not assume every file, app login, or app’s private data will transfer; availability depends on what was backed up and on the app.
Transfer with a cable during setup
- Keep both phones available and start Nokia setup.
- When the Nokia offers a wired transfer, connect the phones using a suitable data cable. HMD specifies the original USB-C cable; confirm that your devices’ ports and cable support a data connection rather than charging only.
- Follow the Nokia’s on-screen instructions to select and transfer data.
The wired route is optional. If the phones cannot connect or the Nokia does not offer the transfer prompt, use Google backup restore or a transfer app instead.
Use a transfer app
HMD names a dedicated transfer app as a third Android-to-Android option, but its general guidance does not identify a particular app or state what data it moves. If you choose this route, follow the app’s instructions on both phones and check its compatibility and transfer list before relying on it.

What transfers—and what may not
Google restore can recover data available in the account backup, and HMD specifically mentions app settings and Wi-Fi passwords in its Nokia restore guidance. Transfer results are not established as complete for all files, app credentials, or private app data. Check the Nokia after setup and separately move anything important that did not appear.

The documented HMD transfer flow covers Android devices. The cited Nokia guidance does not establish an iPhone-to-Nokia procedure, its transfer limits, or compatibility. Do not follow the Android-only restore steps as if they were verified for iPhone; consult the guide or support information for your exact Nokia model before starting.
