Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse Samsung Smart Switch to move supported apps and files between Galaxy Tabs. On the old tablet, choose Send from this phone; on the new one, choose Receive on this phone. For Samsung Notes, also sync with the same Samsung account and verify the notes appear on the new tablet before erasing or handing over the old one.
Before you transfer
- Charge both tablets. For a wireless move, connect them to a reliable network.
- If you want to sync Samsung Notes, sign in to the same Samsung account on both tablets. On the old tablet, check that Notes sync is enabled and allow it to finish.
- Identify important items in My Files and Downloads. Files synced through services such as another cloud account are retrieved by signing in to that service on the new tablet; Smart Switch does not transfer synced-account data itself.
- Keep the old tablet until you have checked important files, notes, and apps on the new one.
Transfer apps and files wirelessly with Smart Switch
- Open Smart Switch on both tablets. If you cannot find it, use Settings search or look in the Samsung folder on the Apps screen.
- On the old tablet, tap Send from this phone, then Wireless.
- On the new tablet, tap Receive on this phone, choose Galaxy/Android, then Wireless.
- Complete the connection prompt on the old tablet. On the new tablet, review the detected content, select what you want to move, and continue. The available categories can vary by device.
- Wait for the transfer and any app installations to finish. Some transferred apps may appear faded until installation is complete.
- Open representative apps and files on the new tablet. Sign in to apps or other accounts when prompted.
Transfer by cable or external storage
Connect the tablets by USB cable
Samsung also supports a direct USB-cable transfer between Galaxy devices. Depending on the tablet models, you may need an adapter. Connect the tablets, follow Smart Switch’s send-and-receive prompts, and select the content on the receiving tablet. Check that the cable and any adapter work with both devices.
Use a USB OTG drive or microSD card
Smart Switch can back up to USB OTG storage or microSD and restore that backup on the new Galaxy device. This creates an external-storage route rather than connecting the tablets directly. The tablet must support the chosen storage type, and the drive or card needs enough free space for the selected backup. MicroSD slots are not available on every Galaxy Tab.
Compare the transfer options
| Method | What you need | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless Smart Switch | No accessory; compatible tablets and a reliable network | You want to transfer directly without buying or finding a cable. |
| Direct USB cable | A compatible cable and, depending on the models, an adapter | You prefer a wired connection between the tablets. |
| USB OTG or microSD backup and restore | Supported external storage with enough capacity; some tablets may need an OTG adapter | You want a backup intermediary or cannot transfer directly. |
| Samsung Cloud sync for Notes | The same Samsung account on both tablets and feature availability on the devices | You want Samsung Notes to sync or restore through your account. |
Make sure Samsung Notes appears on the new tablet
Samsung’s Cloud instructions list Samsung Notes among the data that can be synchronized or restored. On the old tablet, check Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > Samsung account > Sync account, then select the data to sync. Sign into the same Samsung account on the new tablet, open Samsung Notes, and check that the notes you need are there.

Availability varies by country, carrier, and model. Samsung advises checking the Samsung Cloud app on the device for the supported items. Its cited Smart Switch compatibility list does not explicitly identify Samsung Notes; it lists “Memo,” which should not be assumed to mean Samsung Notes. So use account sync for Notes and verify the result rather than relying on Smart Switch alone.
What Smart Switch does—and does not—move
Smart Switch can transfer apps and supported personal content such as photos, videos, and documents, but the available content depends on the connected devices. Moving an app is not the same as copying all of its data: Samsung says data stored in private app storage cannot be backed up. An app may need a fresh sign-in, and its saved state or local database may not carry over.

Samsung’s US support guidance puts the account distinction plainly: “Data from synced accounts cannot be transferred with Smart Switch, but will appear on the new device once you’ve logged in to the account.” Add the relevant account on the new tablet to retrieve that service’s synced material.
