Microsoft did not publish an official Xbox Year in Review for 2025; its last annual recap was in 2024. For live stats, the official Xbox app shows Gamerscore and achievements. For a yearly recap, achievement roadmaps, and community leaderboards, use TrueAchievements. If you also play on other platforms, Exophase, PlayTracker, or Pyroblast can combine more of your gaming history. Microsoft’s reported Xbox Playback lifetime recap is not publicly available as of November 2026.

Why are Xbox players looking for a Year in Review alternative?
The official Xbox Year in Review was a yearly, shareable summary of gameplay time, achievements, and Gamerscore. Microsoft skipped the 2025 edition. Windows Central reported on December 11, 2025, that 2024 was the last official recap; Windows Report noted that the 2024 recap appeared on December 4, while the 2023 recap appeared on December 12. In 2025, the Year in Review link redirected visitors to the Xbox home page.
TrueAchievements released its fan-made My Year on Xbox recap on December 9, 2025. It offered a shareable alternative with games played, annual Gamerscore, rare achievements, a most-played game, and a comparison with the average TrueAchievements hunter. TrueAchievements developer Robbie Andrews said hundreds of thousands of Xbox players had shared the personalized infographics over the years.
That does not mean one replacement handles every job. The Xbox app is the straightforward place for live, first-party stats; TrueAchievements is better suited to completion planning and annual achievement tracking; cross-platform services are useful when Xbox is only part of a player’s library. A “most-played” stat may also be an estimate rather than a direct measure of hours, depending on the service and account data available.

Which Xbox tracker should you choose?
Choose according to the stat you want, not just the number of features in a comparison list. An app that tracks your console account, a community achievement site, and a PC session logger can all report “playtime” while measuring different things.
- For a quick check of Gamerscore or unlocked achievements: start with the official Xbox app. It syncs with the console and requires no extra account.
- For Xbox completion guides, missable achievements, and a yearly recap: use TrueAchievements alongside the Xbox app.
- For one achievement profile across several gaming services: consider Exophase.
- For cross-platform libraries and playtime graphs: compare PlayTracker and Pyroblast. Their tracking coverage and presentation differ, so check that they support the services you use.
- For PC Game Pass or Xbox-app PC sessions stored locally: PlayCounter is a Windows option, not a console tracker.
There is no need to replace the official app to get a more capable setup. The common practical combination is the Xbox app for quick account checks and TrueAchievements for planning, community features, and an annual view. Add another service only if its cross-platform coverage or local tracking fills a gap you actually have.
What does the official Xbox app track?
Microsoft’s Xbox app for iOS and Android is the simplest live tracker for a console player who wants basic account stats. It shows Gamerscore, unlocked achievements, and current challenges, and it syncs with the console. Because it is tied to the Xbox account, there is no separate tracker account to set up.
Its limits matter most to completionists. The app is not a substitute for community completion roadmaps, missable-achievement warnings, New Game Plus lock notes, or estimated completion times. TechnoSports’ August 27, 2026 overview distinguishes those planning features from the app’s native achievement tracking. Use the Xbox app as the quick first-party dashboard, not as a full achievement guide or annual recap.
Achievements and Gamerscore date back to the Xbox 360 dashboard in 2005. A standard retail Xbox game has traditionally included a base list worth 1,000 Gamerscore, with downloadable content able to add more; that convention is not a tracker feature or a promise that every title follows the same list structure.
How do I get a yearly recap from TrueAchievements?
Open the My Year on Xbox page on TrueAchievements and sign in with an Xbox account or a free TrueAchievements account. The 2025 recap can be watched as an animation, then shared as an image or link; it also supports downloading the image and sharing to X or Bluesky.
- Open TrueAchievements and choose the My Year on Xbox recap for the year you want to view.
- Sign in with Xbox or create a free TrueAchievements account. For a first-time account, grant access to basic Xbox information, confirm that you are at least 16, and accept the site’s terms.
- Let the recap load, then watch the animated slides. Use the share or download options for the image, or copy the page link. The dynamic preview can appear in messaging apps such as Discord and WhatsApp.
- If you keep playing and want updated figures, use “Refresh your image” on the recap page.
The 2025 infographic had an eligibility threshold: the account needed at least three Xbox games released in 2025. A newly registered TrueAchievements account could also have an incomplete historical view. The site stated in 2025: “If you have only registered for TrueAchievements this year, your gameplay information will be limited to games you started playing after January 1, 2025.” For a later recap, the same issue applies to games started before joining: a new account may not have a complete record for the entire year.

Its recap uses Microsoft-supplied Hours Played data when accurate data is available for the account. If that data is missing, it ranks games using achievements earned instead. The service explains: “If we have accurate Time Played data from Microsoft for your account, we will base that on the number of Hours Played. If not, we will base it on the number of Achievements earned.”

That fallback is useful for generating a recap, but it is not equivalent to measured playtime. A game with more achievement activity can rank highly even when its actual hours are unknown. Treat an hours figure as Microsoft’s reported playtime where available, and an achievement-based ranking as a proxy where it is not.
What else can TrueAchievements do?
TrueAchievements is an Xbox-first community site, not just a December recap generator. Its per-game material helps players plan completions, while its score and leaderboard features offer views beyond the Gamerscore number displayed in the Xbox app.
Completion planning and achievement value
Game roadmaps, walkthroughs, missable flags, and community time estimates can help players decide what to pursue before starting or finishing a game. TA Score and TA Ratio weight achievements by rarity among the site’s tracked players, so a common 10G achievement does not necessarily count the same as a difficult or unusual 10G achievement in that scoring system. These are community-derived measures, not additional Microsoft Gamerscore.

Achievement Sessions are community multiplayer events that help players coordinate online-only unlocks. The distinction is practical: an achievement may be technically possible but difficult to earn alone if it depends on other players or an online mode.
Annual leaderboards and their offline limitation
TrueAchievements published its 2025 community leaderboards on January 6, 2026. The boards included TrueAchievements Score, Gamerscore, achievements won, TA Difference, and completed games, with filters for platform, genre, and region, plus friends-only views and a “Find my position” option. Results could be shared through X, Bluesky, Reddit, email, or the TA feed.
Those annual boards count online achievement unlocks only. Robbie Andrews explained that offline unlocks were excluded because the site could not establish with certainty that they occurred during the calendar year. As a result, an offline achievement earned during 2025 may not appear in the year’s leaderboard even if it is present in the player’s overall profile.
Account linking and privacy
To link an Xbox profile, sign in through the Xbox option in the TrueAchievements header and approve access on Microsoft.com. TrueAchievements says authentication is handled by Microsoft and that it does not receive or store the Microsoft password. Jack Watling of TrueAchievements described the access this way on July 17, 2026: “We only receive the basic account information, which is used to identify your Xbox account and provide site features.”
Recommended Free Tools
Linking still means granting a third-party service access to basic Xbox account information. If you no longer want that connection, access can be revoked through the TrueAchievements login-linking page. The site’s privacy statement addresses password handling; it does not remove the need to decide whether you are comfortable linking the account.

Free features and optional Pro
Core TrueAchievements tracking is free and ad-supported. The optional Pro tier is described as ad-free and adds features such as time estimates, DLC tracking, and quality-of-life filters, according to TechnoSports’ August 2026 account. TrueAchievements did not publish a fixed public Pro price in the cited material, so roundup-site figures should not be treated as an official current price.
Sources also conflict about whether TrueAchievements has a native companion mobile app. TechnoSports described one in August 2026, while another October 2026 overview listed the lack of a native app as a reason to seek alternatives. The reliable access path is the website; check the relevant app store for current availability rather than assuming a mobile app exists for your device.
Which cross-platform alternatives include Xbox?
Cross-platform trackers make sense when a single Xbox profile does not represent most of your play. Their coverage, sources, and tracking methods are not interchangeable: some aggregate achievement accounts, some build playtime graphs, and some record games running on a Windows PC.

Exophase combines profiles from Xbox, PlayStation Network, Steam, GOG, EA, Ubisoft, Epic, Google Play, Apple Game Center, and selected retro platforms. It is a reasonable choice when the main goal is a unified achievement profile across consoles, PC stores, and mobile gaming. Its interface is often described as dated; its breadth of data is the main reason to consider it.
Tech Insider listed Exophase Premium at $12 USD per year in 2026. The subscription does not auto-renew. Premium includes an ad-free experience, automatic rescans roughly every two to three hours, unlimited manual scans, and custom gamercard backgrounds. Free accounts have slower and more limited scanning. This is the clearest publicly reported price among the community trackers covered here; check the service’s current checkout details before paying.
PlayTracker: playtime graphs and libraries
PlayTracker focuses on automatic tracking, libraries, achievements, graphs, friends, leaderboards, and Quest challenges. It supports Xbox as well as Steam, PlayStation, GOG, EA Origin, Battle.net, and Guild Wars 2, according to EZToolset’s September 30, 2026 listing. Access is listed through a Windows app distributed via Overwolf, web, Android, and iOS.
EZToolset lists a free plan, a paid Indie tier starting at €12 per month, and Pro at €80 per month in 2026; TechBloat’s October 15, 2026 listing also describes a free plan and paid plans starting at €12 monthly. Those amounts are unusually high compared with a basic stat tracker, so check the current plan names, billing period, and checkout currency before choosing a paid tier. A free plan may be sufficient if the need is simply to see a cross-platform profile.

EZToolset says Pyroblast accesses data through authorized platform APIs and that its maker says user data is not sold. Those are service claims, not an independent privacy audit. Review its connection permissions and profile visibility settings before linking accounts or making a profile public.
PlayCounter: local tracking for Windows games
PlayCounter is a free Windows application that automatically records recognized PC games from launchers including the Xbox app, Steam, Epic, GOG, EA, Ubisoft, Battle.net, itch.io, and disc installs. Imports from Steam, Xbox, and Epic can add playtime reported by those services. It keeps data on the PC and does not require an account, according to EZToolset’s October 2, 2026 listing.
This is the relevant option for Xbox PC games or PC Game Pass hours when local recording is acceptable. It does not live-track console play, so it cannot fill in hours spent on an Xbox Series X|S in the living room.
Other options and narrower use cases
Play Ledger is a free web tracker for PlayStation, Steam, and Xbox collections, achievements or trophies, and statistics, as listed by MEFMobile on October 16, 2026. MetaGamerScore is another free web option for cross-platform metascores, comparisons, and guides; roundup listings put paid access at about $3 per month, but the current official plan price is not established here.
XboxAchievements.com is another Xbox-focused community tracker with guides. RetroAchievements is for community achievement sets in emulated retro games, not the retail achievement lists for current-generation Xbox games. Choose it only if retro emulation is part of the hobby, rather than as a replacement for tracking Xbox Series X|S achievements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is Xbox Playback, and can you use it yet?
Xbox Playback is a reported Microsoft lifetime recap, not a live consumer feature as of November 2026. Windows Central reported on October 28 that developer @redphx had found the page in Microsoft site code and said its sources confirmed the feature was real. The reported destination is xbox.com/playback, but it was not publicly available at the time of reporting.
Unlike an annual Year in Review, Playback is described as a lifetime retrospective. Reported details include total playtime and games played, most-played game, top genre, platform used most, total Gamerscore and achievements, top titles, and milestones such as first game, first achievement, and first 100% completion. Screenshots and reports also describe yearly comparisons, such as the year with the most playtime, highest Gamerscore, or most games played, plus a short shareable version.
Those details come from a prototype and reporting based on screenshots, not a public feature specification. The page reportedly showed bugs, including an incorrect “first console” result. A fan-suggested November 15, 2026 release date aligns with Xbox’s 25th anniversary, but Microsoft had not confirmed that date. Availability by region, coverage of older accounts, and final contents remain unknown; do not rely on Playback as a way to retrieve stats until the page is public and the account can access it.

How should you read Xbox playtime and yearly stats?
“Hours played” sounds precise, but the number’s source determines what it means. A tracker can display service-reported hours, locally recorded PC sessions, or a proxy based on achievements. Before comparing two games, check whether both figures were collected in the same way.
- Microsoft-reported Hours Played: TrueAchievements uses this for a recap’s most-played ranking when it has accurate account data from Microsoft.
- Achievement-count fallback: where Microsoft hours are missing, TrueAchievements uses achievements earned to rank a game. This is an activity proxy, not a clock.
- Local PC session tracking: PlayCounter records recognized Windows games on that computer. It is not a record of console sessions and may depend on a game being recognized while it runs.
- Annual achievement totals: a community leaderboard may use only unlocks it can date to the year. TrueAchievements excludes offline unlocks from its annual boards for that reason.
Gamerscore and time are also different measures. Gamerscore reflects achievement values, while TA Score and TA Ratio add rarity weighting within TrueAchievements. None of those numbers alone tells you how long a game took, whether a completion required downloadable content, or whether a player enjoyed it.
What should you do if a stat looks wrong or missing?
First identify whether the problem is an incomplete account history, an unavailable data source, or a display error. A missing annual result does not necessarily mean the achievement was lost or the account’s Gamerscore changed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- A recap has no image: for the 2025 My Year on Xbox infographic, check whether the account had at least three Xbox games released in 2025. If the account was newly registered that year, its history may begin only with games started after January 1, 2025.
- A game’s playtime is absent: a service may lack accurate Microsoft Hours Played data for that account. In the TrueAchievements recap, the most-played ranking can fall back to achievements earned instead of showing hours.
- An annual achievement total is lower than expected: TrueAchievements’ 2025 leaderboard omitted offline unlocks because their dates could not be verified. The overall achievement can still exist in the profile even if it is not counted in that annual board.
- A completed game appears below 100%: Tech Insider reported a September 2026 Xbox “phantom achievement” display bug that made some completed games look incomplete. Microsoft treated it as a display error; Gamerscore was not actually altered.
- Playback shows a strange lifetime milestone: early reporting described a prototype that misidentified a user’s first console. A result from a buggy, unreleased page should not be treated as a definitive account record.
For a persistent mismatch, compare the Xbox account’s achievement list with the third-party profile and confirm the account is linked to the intended Xbox profile. Avoid assuming that a tracker can reconstruct an offline unlock date or missing hours if the underlying service never supplied that information.
How were these options selected?
The options are organized by the job they serve, rather than by a single “best tracker” score. The comparison prioritizes whether a tool covers Xbox alone or several platforms, whether it provides live stats or an annual/lifetime recap, and whether playtime comes from Microsoft hours, an achievement proxy, or local Windows tracking. Community roadmaps, missable flags, privacy and account-linking approach, platform support, and clearly stated free or paid access also matter. Rankings and paid placements in third-party roundups were not treated as proof of product quality.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see Xbox playtime without linking my account to a third-party site?
The official Xbox app is the first-party place to check your live account stats, including Gamerscore and achievements. Avoiding third-party linking means forgoing services that build community roadmaps, cross-platform profiles, or external yearly recaps.
Does Gamerscore tell me how long I played a game?
No. Gamerscore totals the points attached to achievements, not the time spent earning them. A traditional retail game has often had a 1,000-point base achievement list, but downloadable content can add more.
Can I use RetroAchievements to track new Xbox games?
No. RetroAchievements focuses on community-created achievements for emulated retro games. It does not replace the retail achievement lists for current Xbox Series X|S games.
What is the difference between TA Score and Gamerscore?
Gamerscore follows the point values Microsoft assigns to achievements. TA Score and TA Ratio are TrueAchievements measures that account for how common or rare an achievement is among the site’s tracked players.
