Walmart’s app can check an item’s current price when you scan its barcode in a store, and it can send general marketing and deal notifications. Walmart’s published help pages do not document an official alert for a specific item or a price you choose. For a target-price alert, you would need an independent tracker—and should verify its listing, seller, location coverage, and current price yourself.
How to check a Walmart price in a store
- Download the Walmart app and sign in.
- Tap the scanner icon in the search bar or open the Services tab and choose the scanner.
- Use your phone’s camera to scan the item’s barcode.
Walmart describes the scanner as a way to check an item’s price and related information, including reviews, offer availability, eligibility, and manufacturer offers. It is a current lookup, not a documented persistent watch for future price changes. If a scan fails or the in-store price does not appear, Walmart’s Check a price help page provides troubleshooting prompts.
How to get general Walmart deal notifications
Walmart’s help-page instructions are to open Account, tap the Settings gear, then find Communications or Communications & Privacy. Under Marketing and Product Feedback, enable Push Notifications. Also allow notifications for Walmart in your phone’s system settings; permission is required both in the app and on the device.
These are general promotional notifications, which may include deals, trends, new arrivals, and more—not a promise that Walmart will alert you when a chosen product reaches a particular price. Menu names can vary by device and operating-system version, so the labels on your phone may differ from the help-page path. Walmart’s Mobile Alerts Terms of Use, updated August 13, 2026, also do not establish an item-specific price alert.

Can Walmart alert you when one item goes on sale?
The official Walmart help pages described here explain general marketing notifications and order or service messages; they do not document a product watchlist or a threshold-triggered price-drop alert. That describes what those published pages establish, not proof that a feature could not appear in a limited test, region, or later app version.
A third-party App Store listing for Price Tracker for Walmart, by developer Maeen Mawari, advertises price history, watchlists, and alerts for a desired price. The listing says the app is not affiliated with or endorsed by Walmart. Those are the developer’s claims; the listing does not provide independent accuracy testing. Before relying on an alert, check which exact product listing, seller, and location it tracks, and confirm the live Walmart listing before buying. The listing indicates in-app purchases; check current charges and privacy terms directly before installing.

Capital One Shopping’s email preferences page describes price-drop and coupon alerts, but that page does not establish that every Walmart item is supported. Confirm product coverage and alert conditions in the service before depending on it.
Can you get a refund if Walmart lowers the price after you buy?
Walmart’s online price-match policy says its policies differ between Walmart stores and Walmart.com. The published Walmart.com exclusions include a later price decrease on an item already purchased from Walmart.com, competitor prices, Marketplace or other third-party seller prices, and items offered in Walmart stores. The policy page was last updated June 7, 2023, and says Walmart may modify its terms. Check the current policy for the channel and purchase in question; do not assume an online purchase qualifies for a later adjustment or apply the online rules to a store purchase.
