The most reliable way to track a game across PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC is to use a broad calendar for discovery, then verify each date on the publisher’s page or the platform store. Record the platform, region, edition and access tier, save the game to a platform wishlist, and attach a last-verified date so delays do not turn an old listing into a false launch promise.
Use a two-layer system: discover broadly, verify narrowly
No single calendar is authoritative for every platform and market. A practical tracker has two layers:
- Discovery: scan an independent cross-platform calendar or editorial schedule to find games you might otherwise miss. Filter by month, platform and genre, and use countdowns or delay notices as convenient.
- Verification: open the publisher’s product page or the storefront listing for the exact platform and region. Treat that listing as the date you act on.
This division keeps a calendar useful without confusing convenience with certainty. A calendar can tell you that a title is expected in a month; the publisher or store should tell you whether your edition is actually available on your system.
Know what kind of date you are looking at
Release information is not binary. Labeling the date correctly prevents most tracking mistakes.

A window is weaker evidence than a dated listing. GameSpot separates games with concrete dates from games that only have a 2025 window, while Game Informer’s schedule does not assign a game to a month until it has a confirmed date. Those editorial rules are useful models for your own spreadsheet.
Step-by-step: build a cross-platform release tracker
1. Start with a broad calendar
Use an independent calendar that can filter by month and platform instead of checking isolated news posts. GameReleaseCal documents confirmed PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo dates, along with month and genre filters, countdowns and delay updates. Search by the month you care about, then narrow to the systems you own.
At this stage, collect candidates rather than assuming every entry is final. A game can appear on several rows because its versions launch at different times, and a calendar may show a window while a publisher page has not yet supplied a day.

Open the publisher page or the storefront listing before treating a date as final. Check the platform name, edition and region, not just the game title. Square Enix’s catalog illustrates why: one title can be listed for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG, while another title from the same catalog may support only a subset.
Copy the date exactly as displayed and note whether the page says “coming soon,” a month, a year or a specific day. If the publisher and store disagree, keep both observations in your notes and recheck the publisher announcement; do not silently choose the earlier date.

3. Split every entry by platform, region and edition
Do not store one date against a game name when the launch differs by system or market. Create a row for each meaningful combination. At minimum, record:
- Game title and publisher.
- Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store or GOG, as applicable.
- Region and time zone used by the listing.
- Edition or access tier, such as standard, deluxe or a preorder tier.
- Early-access date and standard-launch date, when both exist.
- Status: confirmed day, window, delayed or not announced.
- Source name, source URL if you maintain one, and the date you last checked it.
4. Separate early access from the standard launch
EA’s official EA SPORTS FC 26 page listed September 19, 2025 for early access and September 26, 2025 for the standard release, with versions for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC. Those are two different events, not a single date with a footnote. Your tracker should therefore have separate fields and separate reminders.

Use the same approach for demos, open betas and regional unlocks: they are access events, not automatically the full launch.
5. Save the title where you will see it
After verification, add the exact platform version to its storefront wishlist or notification queue. Steam’s official Upcoming Releases page combines upcoming listings, pre-purchase status, popular wishlists and a personalized upcoming-release queue. A wishlist gives you a platform-specific place to notice price, availability and launch changes.
Use the equivalent wishlist or “follow” feature on the console storefront you use. If a store does not provide the reminder you need, add a calendar event using the verified date and include the source and edition in the event notes. Set a second reminder a few days before launch to catch a date change or a preload announcement.

6. Recheck provisional dates
Dates that are months away deserve another check. Game Informer warns that “The gaming calendar is constantly changing” and recommends bookmarking its schedule. GameSpot’s separation of concrete dates from 2025 windows provides another useful signal: a window should remain visibly provisional in your tracker.

Evaluate any calendar against eight questions: which platforms it covers; whether it supports your region; how it labels a day versus a window; how quickly it reflects delays; whether it connects to wishlists or notifications; which month, genre and platform filters exist; whether it identifies its sources; and whether it is editorial, publisher-owned, storefront-owned or community-maintained.
Why the same game has different dates
Platform certification and technical readiness
Console versions must pass platform-holder certification, and a port may reach that stage later than the lead version. A publisher can therefore announce one date for PC and another for a console build without either date being an error.
Different editions and paid access tiers
Deluxe or qualifying preorder editions may unlock early access while the standard edition remains locked. Treat the access tier as part of the date, just as you would treat the platform.

Regional launches and time zones
Stores can unlock a game at different local times or on different calendar days. A date shown in one region is not automatically the date for another. Store the region and time zone beside the date; if the listing provides only a day, avoid inventing an exact hour.
Physical distribution and ratings
Retail manufacturing, age-rating approvals and local distribution can affect a physical console launch even when a digital PC build is ready. A digital listing may also appear before the publisher has confirmed every retail market.
Staggered versions and platform additions
A game can launch first on one console family, later on another, or receive a Switch 2 version after the original Switch release. The Square Enix catalog’s mix of Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG demonstrates why a single “release date” field is inadequate.

Sort first by standard-launch date, then filter by platform. Keep the last-verified column visible. It tells you which rows are stale before you trust a countdown.

Platform-by-platform tracking habits
PlayStation 5
Search the PlayStation storefront for the exact PS5 edition, add it to your wishlist or follow list, and compare its date with the publisher page. Do not assume a PS4 listing is the same entitlement or launch; record each generation separately when both appear.
Xbox Series X|S
Check the Xbox listing for the Series X|S version and any edition-specific early access. If a listing says the game is coming to Xbox but does not show a day, keep it as a window or not announced rather than borrowing the PC date.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Record Switch and Switch 2 as separate platform values. A catalog may list both, but the date, edition or availability can differ. Verify the storefront for your hardware and region before setting a reminder.
PC
PC release tracking must include the storefront, not only “PC.” Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG can each have a separate listing or availability condition. Steam’s Upcoming Releases page is useful for its personalized queue and wishlist signals, but verify the publisher’s PC announcement when dates conflict.
How to handle delays and conflicting listings
- Identify the conflict: note which source says which date and whether one is a window.
- Check the publisher announcement: look for a delay notice, platform-specific statement or revised edition detail.
- Check the exact storefront: confirm that you are viewing the right region, platform and edition.
- Update one canonical row: replace the old date, mark the status as delayed or confirmed, and retain the previous date in the notes.
- Reset reminders: move calendar alerts and verify that the wishlist or queue still follows the correct version.
Never leave an old date marked as confirmed merely because an editorial calendar has not caught up. If no source now gives a day, downgrade the entry to a window or not announced.
Common tracking mistakes and fixes
- Using a single date for every platform: create platform-specific rows.
- Confusing a year or month with a day: preserve the original precision and label it a window.
- Mixing early access with general launch: store two dates and the eligibility requirement.
- Ignoring region: record the store country and time zone.
- Trusting an old countdown: check the last-verified date and the publisher page.
- Tracking “PC” as one storefront: record Windows, Steam, Epic Games Store or GOG separately when listed.
- Assuming a catalog lists every version: verify the specific title; one publisher catalog can show a broad platform list for one game and a smaller list for another.
- Setting only a launch-day alert: add a pre-launch check so a delay does not surprise you.
A simple weekly routine
Once a week, scan your discovery calendar for new titles and delays. Open the source pages for games launching in the next 30 days, update the last-verified date, and confirm that your wishlist entries match the intended platform and edition. Once a month, review every window entry and remove stale rows for cancelled or replaced listings. This routine takes less time than rebuilding a list after several months of unrecorded changes.
The dependable rule is simple: use calendars to find games, primary listings to establish the date, storefront wishlists to receive platform-specific signals, and a dated record to preserve the context. That combination covers PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC without pretending that one universal release date exists.
