To tell whether a product is a good deal, check its price history for the exact model and variant, compare the current offer with that record, and set a price-drop alert if you can wait. Amazon-focused trackers such as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel cover Amazon listings; Google and Chrome features can provide history across retailers where available. A history chart is useful context—not a promise of a future price or your final checkout total.
1. Match the exact product and variant
Open the retailer’s product page and confirm the precise item before looking at a chart. Check details such as model number, color, storage capacity, size, and whether the listing is for a bundle. Price histories for a similar-looking model or a different variant can lead to the wrong buying decision.
Chrome’s Shopping Insights can show price history and a price range for products with variants, including differences such as colors and storage capacities. 2. Choose a tracker that covers the listing
For Amazon listings: Keepa
Keepa provides Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts. Keepa says it tracks over 7 billion Amazon products; that figure is the service’s own coverage claim, not an independently audited count. Its API documentation also describes product data, offers, deals, seller information, and tracking.

For Amazon listings: CamelCamelCamel
CamelCamelCamel lets shoppers look up an Amazon product’s price history and set a price watch. Its Camelizer browser feature adds history features in the browser. According to CamelCamelCamel, an email address is not needed to view history but is required to use price watches.
Across retailers: Google Shopping and Chrome Shopping Insights
Google says some product listings show price history across individual retailers, and shoppers can start tracking products from Search. Google’s Shopping announcement describes these price insights and alerts. Chrome’s Shopping Insights also offers price history and a price range where available.

Chrome Help lists Australia, Canada, India, Japan, and the United States for these Shopping Insights and tracking features. It also says users must sign in to Chrome with a Google Account, opt into syncing tabs and history, and turn on “Make searches and browsing better” to use price tracking, insights, and notifications. Amazon’s built-in price history
Amazon says its own price-history feature shows 365 days of history in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. Availability depends on the market and the particular listing, so check whether the feature appears on the product page you are considering. Amazon’s price-history explainer

3. Compare the current offer with the history
Use the chart to put today’s displayed price in context, not to produce a single automatic buy-or-wait answer. Check whether the current offer appears unusually high or low relative to the history shown, and confirm that the record belongs to the same variant and retailer you plan to use.
Before deciding, review the offer itself and the costs or conditions shown at checkout. A tracker’s recorded price may not reflect the final payable amount, and a past low price does not guarantee the item will return to it.

4. Set a price-drop alert if you can wait
- Decide what price would make the purchase worthwhile for you; avoid setting a target based only on a record low that may not recur.
- Choose an alert or watch from a tracker that covers the listing. Keepa documents price-drop alerts, and CamelCamelCamel offers price watches for Amazon products.
- For CamelCamelCamel price watches, provide an email address; its history feature does not require one. For Chrome tracking, meet the listed country, sign-in, sync, and opt-in requirements.
- Wait for a notification and then recheck the product variant, seller or retailer, and checkout conditions before buying.
An alert is a way to avoid repeatedly checking a listing. It cannot guarantee that your target will be reached, that the product will remain in stock, or that an alerted price will be the final checkout amount.
