A sincere, specific thank-you is enough—and it costs nothing. You can say it in person, write a short note, or send a compliment through the airline’s official feedback channel. If you’re considering a physical gift, check that airline’s current rules first: gift acceptance varies, and no single policy applies to every carrier.
Choose a gesture that fits the moment

Say thanks without interrupting the crew
A brief, sincere comment is usually the simplest option. If a crew member helped you or someone traveling with you, mention the action: for example, “Thank you for helping my mother get settled,” or “I appreciated how calmly you handled that delay.” Specific praise makes the message personal without asking for anything in return.
Wait until the crew member is not handling a safety task or serving other passengers. A thank-you should not create pressure to provide special treatment, an upgrade, or an exception.
Write a short note
A handwritten note can make your thanks more personal, but there is no need to buy a card. A few lines on a blank card or piece of paper are enough: name the helpful action, say why you appreciated it, and sign your name if you wish. Keep the message appropriate and easy to accept.

Send recognition through the airline
If you want the airline to know about a crew member’s service, use its official contact or compliment form. British Airways, for example, says it welcomes staff compliments and asks customers to submit them so the right people can be thanked; its FAQ was last updated on 6 August 2024. See British Airways’ staff-compliment FAQ. This is a carrier-specific example, not a procedure that applies to every airline.
For another carrier, find its current official feedback page rather than assuming it uses the same process. Include the flight details the form requests and describe the crew member or helpful action as clearly as you can.

Check before offering a physical gift
Do not assume that cash, food, gift cards, or other gifts are accepted. Airline policies can differ, and travel-industry reporting says tipping is generally not expected while noting that policies may restrict it. Check the airline’s current policy if you are considering any physical item.
Small sealed treats are sometimes considered by passengers, but they are optional and may not be accepted. If you are unsure, choose a spoken thank-you, note, or formal compliment instead; none requires buying anything.
