Then resize around layout breakpoints, check learner-facing content and controls, and record each issue with the exact page state and viewport. A screenshot can reveal visual defects, but it cannot prove that a site is accessible or that its controls work.
Set up a repeatable screenshot review
- Record the reference: Note the page URL if you are permitted to do so, login or course state, browser, date, screenshot dimensions, viewport dimensions if available, orientation, and zoom or text-size setting. Keep the page content and state consistent when comparing captures.
- Choose a CSS viewport: Use browser developer tools or resize the browser window to the tablet viewport you want to evaluate. Device pixel ratio affects how CSS pixels relate to physical pixels, so a device’s marketed resolution is not itself the CSS viewport. There is no single tablet size prescribed by the guidance cited here.
- Capture both orientations: Review portrait and landscape unless that particular content has an essential orientation requirement. Keep the tested page and state unchanged between captures.
- Save evidence: Capture each failing viewport and retain the reproduction details. A screenshot comparison can help locate visual changes, but it does not decide whether a change is a defect.
Inspect portrait, landscape, and nearby widths
At each viewport, look for clipped or overlapping content, truncated course titles or instructions, columns that become difficult to read, large empty areas, and menus or sticky navigation that cover content or controls. Check whether images and video are cropped awkwardly, controls move offscreen, or the page develops horizontal scrolling.
Slowly resize across suspected breakpoints, checking the screenshot width and a few nearby widths. A single capture can miss a sudden wrapping or layout failure. For Indian government website guidance, GIGW’s responsive-content checkpoint describes vertically scrolling content at 320 CSS pixels wide and horizontally scrolling content at 256 CSS pixels high, subject to exceptions for content that requires two-dimensional layout. These are CSS viewport criteria, not tablet hardware dimensions, and do not by themselves establish full conformance. See the GIGW accessibility guidance.
Check learner-facing content and accessibility beyond appearance
Where these elements occur on the page, inspect course navigation, long lesson headings, downloads, embedded video, captions or transcripts, quizzes, and forms. Verify that text enlargement does not hide content or controls, and that visible keyboard focus and keyboard operation are available by testing the actual page. Check text contrast and meaningful image alternatives in the page rather than trying to infer them from a screenshot.

Its guidance includes reflow, orientation, keyboard access, non-text alternatives, text scaling, and contrast checks. It gives 4.5:1 contrast for ordinary text and 3:1 for large text, and describes text resizing to 200 percent; consult the guidance’s exceptions and details for an actual audit. Its orientation checkpoint says: “Content does not restrict its view and operation to a single display orientation, such as portrait or landscape, unless a specific display orientation is essential.” These checks are relevant to an Indian education site, but the applicable legal or contractual obligations depend on the site owner and policy; do not infer them for an unspecified institution.

For example, SWAYAM Plus states that its layouts are responsive and text can be resized with browser zoom without loss of content. It also describes its accessibility aims; that statement is not independent proof that every page passes every check. See its accessibility page.
Report findings so another tester can reproduce them
For each issue, record the browser, viewport width and height, orientation, zoom or text setting, page and course state, observed problem, expected result, and a screenshot. Include concise steps to reproduce and identify what is obscured, clipped, or unusable. Compare against the intended design or applicable requirement rather than labeling every visual difference a defect.

Use emulation first; validate on a physical tablet when useful
Browser viewport emulation or window resizing is a repeatable first pass. A physical Android tablet can expose browser, orientation, or settings behavior that emulation may not represent. Use one when the site’s audience and available devices make that validation worthwhile; it is not a universal prerequisite for screenshot review. Android Developers recommends testing UI consistency across different window and screen sizes and supports screenshot tests for adaptive layouts, but its guidance does not prescribe a tablet model or require real hardware for website screenshot testing. Use automated accessibility checks as screening, not a verdict
GIGW describes both manual evaluator actions and checks with accessibility tools or extensions. SugamyaWeb’s guide describes single-page or full-site modes, configurable WCAG versions and levels, immediate or scheduled tests, and reports. Its home page cautions that the service checks key WCAG criteria, so automated output is a screening result to follow with manual evaluation.
