Schedule a rehearsal on the destination channel, use that channel’s stream URL and key, inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then verify playback from the watch page and a mobile device. YouTube documents how to test scheduled encoder streams, but its guidance does not promise that a 24/7 playlist schedule or its settings will transfer intact between channels.
What to check before switching
Treat the destination channel as a fresh setup, even if the same encoder and playlist will be used. Compare the old and new configurations against these operational checks:
- Destination: confirm you are signed into the intended channel and have its stream details.
- Encoder preview and stream health: confirm YouTube receives a usable video and audio signal without health warnings.
- Playlist continuity: check the sequence, transitions, and whether playback continues as intended. This is a scenario-specific check, not a specific item in YouTube’s published test checklist.
- Audience access: confirm the watch page is reachable with the visibility you intend to use, including from a mobile device.
- Rollback: keep the existing setup available until the destination setup has passed rehearsal. This is an operational precaution, not a YouTube requirement.
YouTube recommends trying a test live stream and checking the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. Its encoder tips also advise checking that viewers can reach the event from channel and watch pages and on mobile, while monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube live streaming tips – Computer
Run a rehearsal on the destination channel
- Open YouTube Studio and create a scheduled encoder stream. In the destination channel, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a test stream. YouTube’s scheduled-stream workflow allows you to create a new stream or reuse settings; do not assume that settings from another channel are already present. See Schedule a live stream.
- Configure the encoder with the destination stream’s details. Use the stream URL and stream key shown for the destination stream, following YouTube’s encoder setup guidance. A stream key is a credential: do not share or publish it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set visibility for the rehearsal. Choose public, unlisted, or private according to who should be able to find or view the test. YouTube’s live-streaming tips suggest public or unlisted for testing; use private if access should be restricted, and check the resulting watch-page access accordingly. Visibility options are described in YouTube’s live-streaming tips and scheduled-stream guidance.
- Start the encoder early and wait for the preview. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before the event and starting them at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. These are recommendations, not guarantees. Before going live, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room; YouTube explicitly advises checking it before starting the public event. YouTube live-streaming tips
- Use a representative signal. Test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, rather than a static or silent placeholder. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance says tests should include audio and movement similar to what will be used in the stream.
- Check the stream and viewer experience. In Live Control Room, inspect picture and sound and monitor stream-health messages. Open the watch page using the access level intended for your audience; verify that it loads and plays, then check playback on mobile. Watch enough of the playlist to confirm its order and continuity, including the transition or loop behavior you rely on.
- Stop the rehearsal and document what worked. Record the destination channel, stream settings, playlist order, visibility, and any fixes needed. Keep the old channel’s setup available until the new arrangement has been checked under the conditions you expect to use.
What does—and does not—move between channels
YouTube’s help materials document scheduled encoder streams, stream keys, privacy settings, and testing. They do not document a dedicated migration procedure for a 24/7 playlist schedule or guarantee transfer of a schedule, stream key, playlist state, or audience between channels. Configure and test the destination channel on its own rather than relying on an assumed transfer.

Do not confuse a schedule migration with Live Redirect. Live Redirect can send viewers to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream when the current stream ends, subject to eligibility and destination permissions. YouTube describes it as an audience handoff feature, not a way to transfer a playlist schedule or channel configuration.
YouTube’s encoder help also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That describes archive behavior; it does not establish a maximum duration for live streams or prove that a 24/7 schedule cannot run.
