The strongest assessment combines a trustworthy seller and purchase record with model-appropriate markings, construction, lens details, and packaging. Counterfeits can copy individual features, so treat visual checks as clues—not proof. If several details do not fit, keep your receipt and contact the seller or Ray-Ban.
Start with the seller and purchase record
Consider who sold the sunglasses, what the listing claimed, and whether you have a receipt or order record. A very low price can be a reason to look more closely, but price alone does not prove a pair is counterfeit. Ray-Ban’s US FAQ describes counterfeiting across websites, marketplaces, and social media, and provides a way to report suspicious listings, websites, and social-media profiles.
Ray-Ban’s US FAQ reports that Luxottica took down “over 297.000 listings” offering counterfeit products in 2020. Those are company-reported takedown figures for that year, not current totals or a measure of the risk attached to any particular seller.
Identify the exact model before comparing details
Read the markings inside the temples and note the model, color, and size information. Compare those details with the official description for the model the seller claims to have supplied. A code that matches a model helps identify what the pair claims to be; it does not establish who made it. Markings can be copied. The sources cited here do not establish a public serial-number lookup that proves ordinary Ray-Ban sunglasses are genuine.
Inspect the frame’s construction and finish
Look for loose parts, uneven edges, visible glue or seams that seem inconsistent with the frame, and lettering that appears poorly finished. Check whether the hinges feel secure and operate consistently. SportRx recommends these as practical inspection clues, not as a laboratory test or a universal checklist issued by Ray-Ban.

Interpret what you see in context: construction and finish can vary with a frame’s material and style. One rough detail merits a closer comparison; it is not, by itself, conclusive proof of a counterfeit.
Compare lens markings with the claimed configuration
Ray-Ban’s US FAQ says that its customized lenses typically have the full Ray-Ban signature etched on the right lens and “RB” initials etched on the left. That description applies to customized lenses; it should not be treated as a rule for every vintage pair, replacement lens, or other configuration.

Also compare the lens appearance and configuration with the exact model. SportRx identifies lens logos and clarity as additional clues, but notes that genuine Ray-Ban sunglasses do not all use glass lenses. Lens material or the presence or absence of a particular mark is therefore not a universal pass-or-fail test.
Use packaging as a consistency check, not proof
Check any box, case, labels, and included items for consistency with the claimed model, but give packaging limited weight. It could have been copied, replaced, or separated from the sunglasses. SportRx notes that a barcode can be reproduced on a forgery, so a matching barcode or neat presentation does not authenticate the pair inside.

Weigh the clues together
There is no validated scoring system in the sources cited here. Give the most weight to a trustworthy purchase source and several independent details that fit the exact model, rather than treating any single feature as decisive.

What to do if you are still unsure
- Keep your documentation. Save the receipt, order confirmation, listing, and any messages with the seller.
- Contact the seller or Ray-Ban. Use Ray-Ban’s official customer-service route or store locator from its US FAQ to ask about the exact pair. The FAQ does not promise that a store will issue a formal authenticity certificate, so do not assume that contacting one guarantees certification.
- Report a suspicious listing. Ray-Ban’s US FAQ includes a form for reporting suspicious listings, websites, and social-media posts.
If you are seeking warranty service, Ray-Ban’s US FAQ states that its warranty covers manufacturing defects in material or workmanship for 24 months from the purchase date and requires proof of purchase. It lists exclusions including scratched sun lenses, accidental damage, unauthorized modifications or repairs, and normal wear. Warranty conditions may vary by market and product, and warranty eligibility is not an authenticity test; check the policy for your location and exact product.
