Choose a viewport capture for what visitors first see, a full-page capture for overall structure, or a focused capture when detail must stay legible.
Choose the screenshot that proves the point
A screenshot records how a page appeared in one browser state; it does not, by itself, prove performance, accessibility, or usability. Match the capture scope to the evidence you need to show.

Chrome DevTools documents viewport, full-page, selected-node, selected-area, and mobile-page capture options. Its device mode changes the viewport and user agent, so describe the result as mobile emulation rather than a physical-device capture. See Chrome DevTools screenshots and Device Mode.
Capture a website screenshot in Chrome
- Open the exact page URL you plan to discuss in Chrome.
- Open DevTools and turn on device mode using the Toggle device toolbar control. Select the desired device preset or enter the viewport dimensions you need.
- Open the DevTools More options menu.
- Choose Capture screenshot for the current visible viewport, or Capture full size screenshot for the whole page, including content outside the viewport. Chrome uses the full-page command to capture content that is not currently visible.
- For a specific component or region, use DevTools’ node or area capture options instead of shrinking a full-page image until the detail becomes unreadable.
- Save the image and record its exact page URL, capture date, and whether it is desktop or mobile emulation in the report.

Capture a full-page or element screenshot in Firefox
- Open the page in Firefox and open Developer Tools.
- In Developer Tools settings, enable the screenshot button under Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Use the screenshot button to capture the full page. Mozilla documents that the resulting file is saved to Downloads.
- To capture one element, open the Inspector, right-click the target node, and choose Screenshot Node from its context menu.

Make screenshots useful and responsible in a client report
- Keep the evidence traceable: place the exact URL and capture date next to the image. This lets a client distinguish the recorded state from a later redesign or content change.
- Use the right scale: pair a full-page overview with a viewport or focused capture when a small control or line of text matters.
- Label emulation accurately: state the viewport or device preset and call it mobile emulation. Do not imply that the screenshot came from a physical phone.
- Check for sensitive information: inspect the image for personal data, account details, or confidential content before sharing, and follow client and organizational handling rules.
- Support broader claims with the right evidence: a screenshot shows appearance at capture time. It does not establish that a page is accessible or usable. Chrome’s accessibility guidance explains that automated checks find some markup issues, but keyboard and screen-reader navigation requires hands-on review. When screenshot capture is blocked
Some managed Chrome Enterprise environments can restrict screenshots on selected sites. Chrome Enterprise Premium administrators can configure policies that cover keyboard shortcuts and capture apps or extensions, subject to the applicable license and management requirements. If capture is blocked on a work-managed browser, ask the administrator about the site policy rather than trying to bypass it. See Chrome Enterprise screenshot prevention policy.
