Urlbox does not capture an entire site in one bulk request. To screenshot multiple pages, prepare a URL list and submit a separate render for each URL—using a script, the Urlbox CLI, or CaptureDeck. For a large list, work in paced batches, and save images you need to keep: Urlbox says hosted render URLs expire after 30 days.
Choose a way to process your URL list

Prepare the URLs
If you need every page on a site, start with its sitemap. Check the site’s robots.txt file or footer for a sitemap reference if you do not know its location; some sites do not publish one. Extract the page URLs into a plain list or a CSV before starting captures. For an existing page list, validate that each entry is a complete URL and decide how output filenames will be assigned.
Only capture pages you are authorized to access, and be mindful that repeated requests add load to the target site. A sitemap is a starting inventory, not a guarantee that every URL is live or suitable for capture.

Capture each URL with the Urlbox API
Urlbox’s guide demonstrates one synchronous POST per URL to https://api.urlbox.com/v1/render/sync. This JavaScript pattern uses full-page PNG captures and associates each result with its source URL. It illustrates the request workflow; it is not a complete tested downloader, so adapt the response handling to the JSON response and storage method you use.

Use bounded batches for larger lists
The sequential loop is easy to reason about but waits for each request to finish before starting the next. For larger jobs, process a limited number at a time rather than firing every URL concurrently. This keeps the job manageable and reduces the chance of overloading target sites or triggering rate limits. Urlbox describes sites with 1000+ pages as a case where requests may need to be spaced out; that is operational guidance, not a throughput guarantee. The reviewed documentation does not establish a universal concurrency quota or fixed processing time.
Record the original URL, response status, and resulting render information for every attempt. Retry transient failures selectively, with a delay, rather than repeatedly hammering a page that consistently fails. For a long-running workflow, Urlbox supports asynchronous POST rendering with polling or a webhook.

Run captures from a CSV with the Urlbox CLI
For a local folder of images, the Urlbox CLI guide shows a CSV with a URL and output-name column, then invokes urlbox screenshot for each row and writes PNGs to an output directory. The command syntax and options should follow the current CLI guide; a basic shell loop for a CSV structured as url,filename is:

doneThis simple loop assumes CSV values do not contain embedded commas or quoted fields. For arbitrary CSV data, use a CSV parser rather than shell field splitting. Confirm the installed CLI’s expected argument order and authentication setup against the Urlbox CLI guide. For a very long list, prefer an asynchronous workflow so the process is not tied to waiting on every capture in sequence.

Choose full-page capture settings
Set full_page: true when each image should include the entire page rather than only the initial viewport. Urlbox documents two capture modes:
- Stitch: the default mode scrolls the page, triggers lazy-loaded content, and joins screenshot sections. Urlbox describes it as optimized for accuracy and more reliable.
- Native: uses browser-native full-page capture and is faster, but may not work well on every site.
Use stitch when completeness matters, especially where content loads as the page scrolls. Try native when speed is more important and check its result on the actual pages you capture. For unusually tall pages, format limits matter: Urlbox documents maximum dimensions of 65,535 × 65,535 pixels for JPEG and 16,383 × 16,383 pixels for WebP; it says PNG has no corresponding format-specific dimension limit and is its recommended option for full-page images. Store outputs and handle retention
Urlbox’s quickstart says hosted render URLs expire after 30 days. Download each image or configure saving to a cloud bucket if it must remain available longer. Use filenames that preserve a stable relationship to the source URL—for example, a page identifier or sanitized path—and keep a manifest mapping filenames to URLs and capture outcomes. For large collections, Urlbox’s guide recommends cloud storage such as S3 to organize screenshots.
Troubleshoot common failures
- Authentication error: check that the secret key is valid and is sent in the
Authorization: Bearer …header for the JSON API. Keep it in a protected environment variable. - A URL fails while others succeed: verify that it is complete, reachable, and does not require access your capture workflow lacks. Log the failed URL and response rather than treating a partial batch as complete.
- Rate limits or target-site errors: reduce concurrency, add spacing between requests, and process smaller batches. Do not assume an account-specific limit or fixed safe request rate from the general guide.
- Lazy-loaded sections are missing: use full-page capture with stitch mode, which scrolls to trigger lazy content. Check the page result because site behavior can vary.
- The page is cut off or the capture fails on a very tall page: try PNG rather than JPEG or WebP, whose documented maximum dimensions are lower.
- A render link no longer works: download the output before the documented 30-day expiration or persist it to configured cloud storage.
- CLI output names are malformed: ensure the CSV columns match the loop and use a proper CSV parser if values include commas, quotes, or complex characters.
