For a useful Indian SEO audit, capture Google’s results on the phone or app experience you want to document, then record the exact query, time, search region, location context, language, device, and interface alongside the image. A screenshot shows one search under one set of conditions—not a fixed ranking for everyone in India.
What a mobile Google SERP screenshot can—and cannot—show
A mobile Search page is a visual snapshot of results and other page elements as they appeared on a particular device and interface. Google’s Visual Elements Gallery explains that Search appearance can vary by device, country, language, and other factors. A capture is therefore evidence of what was observed in that context, not proof that every Indian searcher saw the same page or that a result holds a stable nationwide position.
Use the term “observed in this capture” when reporting a result. If the audit is about local intent, say which city or location context was used. Do not treat selecting India as the search region as a guarantee of identical city-level results: Search may use device location or an estimated location, including an area inferred from the IP address.
Set up a reproducible search context
Choose the phone and Search interface
Use the phone and interface relevant to the audit: the Google app or a mobile browser. Do not silently switch between them when comparing captures. Record the phone, screen size, orientation, operating-system version, and Google app or browser version.

Set the country, location, and language deliberately
- Set the search region. In the Google app, select India as the search region if that control is available. Google Search Help documents region controls for the app on Android and iPhone or iPad.
- Check language settings separately. Note the interface or display language and any results-language filter. Google explains that Search language is determined using multiple factors; changing the interface language does not necessarily restrict results to that language.
- Keep location conditions consistent. Note whether location access was available and any city or location shown by Search. Google may use device-provided or estimated location for locally relevant results.
- Record personalization context. Note whether the account was signed in, if known, and keep that state consistent when comparing captures.
For an India-wide query, record India as the intended region. For a city-specific audit, record the target city and the location context visible in the capture; do not imply that a region selector alone reproduces every user’s results.
Capture the results on your phone
Android
- Open the Google app or mobile browser and run the exact query.
- When the relevant results are visible, press Power + Volume down at the same time.
- If that shortcut does not work on your device, Android Help suggests holding Power and tapping Screenshot on supported devices.
- On Android 12 and later, most scrollable screens support a scrolling screenshot. Take a screenshot, tap Capture more, then select the content to include. Availability and behavior can vary by device and screen.
iPhone
Use the iPhone’s built-in screenshot function while the relevant Search results are visible. Button combinations depend on the iPhone model; consult current Apple Support instructions for the exact steps for your device. Do not assume that a universal scrolling-capture method is available. If a single full-page capture is not offered or does not suit the audit, use sequential screenshots as you scroll.
When one image cannot cover the full page
Take sequential captures as you move down the SERP. Keep enough overlap between images to establish their order. Include each result’s title and attribution, and keep any Sponsored label visible rather than cropping it away. This overlap is a practical audit technique, not a Google requirement.
Preserve the evidence and label each capture
Keep the screenshot as it appeared on the phone. Google’s Search screenshot guidance says to show Search naturally and not modify its interface. If the image contains third-party content, approvals may be needed for that content. Google’s guidance says permission is not needed for educational or instructional uses in print and requests the attribution “Google and the Google logo are trademarks of Google LLC.” Check the current guidance and the rules that apply to your publication context, especially for promotional use.
Store a capture record with each image. A simple filename and sidecar note can make a folder of screenshots auditable without changing the image itself.

- Query: exact spelling, spacing, language, and any city or state included.
- Capture time: date, time, and timezone.
- Search context: intended country or region, city or location shown by Search, and location-permission context if known.
- Language: interface language and any results-language filter.
- Device and interface: phone model or screen size, orientation, OS version, and Google app or browser version.
- Personalization: signed-in state, if known.
- Sequence: screenshot number and scroll position or order for multi-image captures.
For example, a sidecar note might read: “Query: [exact query]; captured: [date, time, timezone]; region: India; city shown: [city or not shown]; language/filter: [details]; device: [model, screen size, orientation]; OS: [version]; interface: Google app [version]; signed in: [yes/no/unknown]; image: 1 of 3.” Replace every bracketed item with the actual observation; do not infer details that the capture does not establish.
Compare captures without overstating ranking changes
Before comparing two images, align or explicitly document the conditions that could affect what is visible:
- Exact query, including spelling, spacing, language, and any place name.
- Country or search region, plus city or location context.
- Results-language filter and interface language.
- Date and time, including timezone.
- Phone, screen size, operating system, orientation, and Google app versus browser.
- Personalization or signed-in state where known.
- Scroll depth and which elements are in frame: organic results, ads, local results, snippets, and attribution.
If these conditions differ, say so in the audit. A changed result may reflect a different context as well as a change over time. Google’s Visual Elements Gallery is a useful reference for naming what is on the page: a SERP can contain text results and other visual elements, not just “blue links.” Its appearance varies by device, country, language, and other factors.

India-specific context that screenshots do not resolve
Google’s help documentation describes choosing a search region in the Google app. Region selection is only one part of context: local results may also depend on device location or an estimated location. For city-sensitive queries, identify the intended city and report what location context was visible rather than describing one capture as “the India ranking.”
Google’s India Android choice-screen page describes a choice screen for general search providers on new Android phone and tablet models shipped into India where Google Search is pre-installed. That is background about provider selection; it does not establish what default every Android user selected, nor does it change how to take a screenshot.
Troubleshooting common capture problems
The Android screenshot shortcut does not work
Try holding Power and tapping Screenshot, if your device supports that option. Device manufacturers and screen support vary, so use the capture option available on your model.

There is no “Capture more” option
Android’s scrolling screenshot is supported on Android 12 and later for most, not all, scrollable screens. If the option is absent or the result is unsuitable, capture the SERP in overlapping sections and number the images.

The capture does not show the expected city-level results
Check the selected region, location permissions, and location context shown by Search. A country selection alone does not establish a particular city location, and Search may use an estimated location. Record what was actually used instead of claiming a more precise context.
Results appear in an unexpected language
Check the results-language filter as well as the interface language. The display language does not necessarily constrain the language of results, which Google says can be determined from multiple factors.
Two screenshots appear to show different rankings
Compare the recorded query, region and location, language, timestamp, device, interface, sign-in state, and scroll depth. If a condition differs or is unknown, disclose it; the images alone may not show why the pages differ.
