For a one-off full-page screenshot, use the built-in capture tools in Chrome or Firefox: Chrome offers Capture a full size screenshot in Device Mode, while Firefox can capture the entire page from its Developer Tools toolbar or Web Console. Review the saved image before adding it to a client report, especially if the page loads content as you scroll.
Capture a full-page screenshot in Chrome

Open the webpage and wait until it shows the state you want to document. If you need a mobile view, open DevTools Device Mode and choose the device type or viewport first.

Open Chrome DevTools and turn on Device Mode if it is not already active.

Open the Device Mode screenshot menu and select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome documents this option as capturing content beyond the visible viewport. See Chrome DevTools Device Mode.

Open the saved image and inspect it from top to bottom before using it in the report.
For a normal manual capture, the menu is simpler than automation. Chrome also exposes screenshot capture through the Chrome DevTools Protocol for automated workflows.

Capture a full-page screenshot in Firefox
Enable the screenshot toolbar button

Open Developer Tools settings.

Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.

Click the screenshot icon in the Developer Tools toolbar. Firefox saves the image to Downloads by default.

Use the Web Console
For a command-based capture, open the Web Console and run:

Firefox’s documented :screenshot helper also has options for a delay, device-pixel ratio, clipboard output, and filename. Choose a distinct filename for each capture to avoid unintentionally overwriting an earlier image. See Firefox screenshot documentation.

Choose the right capture approach
For occasional client work, start with a built-in browser feature: it avoids installing an extension and can capture beyond the visible viewport. Choose based on what the deliverable needs:
- Setup: built-in Chrome and Firefox tools are convenient for a one-off capture; a recurring workflow may benefit from an extension or automation.
- Viewport: use Device Mode when you need a particular desktop or mobile viewport. If reporting on responsive behavior, capture desktop and mobile separately and label them.
- Page versus element: a full-page image documents the whole page; if the report needs only one region, check whether your chosen capture method supports selecting an element.
- Dynamic content: long pages, embedded frames, lazy-loaded images, and areas with their own scrollbars may need extra loading and careful review.
- Export and markup: consider whether you need an image, a PDF, annotations, or redaction. Confirm an extension’s current browser support, permissions, and features before installing it.

Make the screenshot useful in a client report
Capture and label the intended state
- Wait for the page to reach the state the report is about, including any relevant loading or consent state.
- For responsive comparisons, capture each viewport separately and label the images clearly.
- Use an informative filename, for example
client-site-homepage-desktop-2026-10-03.png.
Inspect the complete image
Look for missing sections, duplicated sticky headers, overlays, delayed images, cut-off text, or content that becomes unreadable when scaled. If the site uses lazy loading or inner scrolling, allow the relevant content to load, capture again if needed, and inspect the result visually. A screenshot tool’s existence or release history cannot establish that a particular page was captured correctly.
Preserve the original and document context
Keep an untouched copy of the capture. Make annotations or redactions on a duplicate. When useful, add a caption or report note with the page URL, capture date and time with timezone, viewport description, and relevant login or consent state. These details help explain what the image records; they do not by themselves prove when or how the page appeared.
Check for sensitive information before sharing
Review the image for personal, account, or confidential details that the client does not need, and redact those details from the copy you share. India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology publishes the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Whether that Act or later rules apply to a particular screenshot or reporting arrangement depends on the circumstances; this guidance is not a legal determination.

Common capture problems and fixes
- Parts of the page are missing: wait for delayed or lazy-loaded content, capture again, then inspect the entire image. Content inside a separately scrolling region may need separate documentation.
- A sticky header appears more than once: inspect the output and try capturing after the page settles; if it remains duplicated, document the limitation or use another capture method and verify its result.
- Text is too small to read: capture the relevant mobile or desktop viewport separately, or use a focused capture for the section the client needs to inspect.
- The Firefox command overwrote a prior file: supply a different filename using the documented filename option before capturing again.
- An extension is unavailable or behaves differently: confirm its current browser support, permissions, and feature set. A browser update or a complex page can affect capture behavior; try the browser’s built-in method and review the output.
