On Windows 11, the simplest way to save a website screenshot with Selenium is to install Selenium in a Python virtual environment, open Chrome with webdriver.Chrome(), navigate to the page, and call driver.save_screenshot(). With modern Selenium, Selenium Manager usually resolves ChromeDriver automatically, so start without downloading a driver yourself.
Set up Selenium on Windows 11
Open PowerShell and create a project folder, then create and activate a virtual environment and install Selenium:

If PowerShell prevents script activation, use a shell in which the environment’s activation script is permitted, or run the environment’s Python executable directly: .venvScriptspython.exe -m pip install -U selenium. These setup commands are standard Python guidance; they were not verified on a Windows 11 machine for this article.
Save a screenshot with Python
Save this as screenshot.py in the project folder. Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture.

python screenshot.pyThe script creates the Pictures folder if needed, saves the PNG there, checks Selenium’s success result, and closes the browser session even if navigation or saving raises an error. The destination is based on the current Windows user’s home directory; it does not assume every Windows installation has the same folder layout.
Wait for the page state you need
driver.get() navigates to the URL, but a page can continue loading content asynchronously afterward. For a dynamic page, wait for a meaningful element or condition that indicates the content you need is ready before calling save_screenshot(). A fixed delay may help in a particular case, but it is not a universal guarantee that a site has finished rendering.
Choose the capture scope

The basic current-window command does not establish that Selenium automatically stitches a long document into a full-page image. If the requirement is one image of a whole long page, use a separately verified full-page method rather than assuming save_screenshot() does that.

ChromeDriver compatibility and automatic setup
Try webdriver.Chrome() first. Selenium Manager handles browser-driver installation in most supported environments, avoiding a separate manual ChromeDriver download in the typical setup. Selenium’s Chrome guidance says, “By default, Selenium 4 is compatible with Chrome v75 and greater,” and advises matching Chrome and ChromeDriver at the major-version level. These are general compatibility guidelines, not a guarantee for every environment or a substitute for checking a specific release.
If you need to manage ChromeDriver yourself, first note the installed Chrome version, then use Google’s version-selection guidance to find a compatible driver: Chrome for Testing availability. Avoid relying on an old, separately installed executable when Selenium Manager is expected to choose the driver; conflicting versions can make diagnosis harder.
Troubleshoot common failures

Chrome does not start or Selenium reports a driver-session error: Record the Selenium package version, Chrome version, and—if installed separately—the
chromedriver.exeversion. Check that Chrome and ChromeDriver major versions match. Try allowing Selenium Manager to resolve the driver before installing one manually.Rank #3

Selenium Manager cannot obtain a driver: A proxy or network policy may block driver downloads. Check the full exception text and the machine’s network restrictions. If manual driver management is required, consult Google’s version-selection guidance and use a driver matching Chrome’s major version.

No PNG appears: Check the printed destination and confirm the current Windows user can write to that folder. The script creates the parent directory, and raises an error if Selenium reports that the screenshot was not saved.

The image is blank or missing dynamic content: The capture may have occurred before the desired content appeared. Wait for a relevant element or condition, then capture. Do not treat one fixed sleep duration as reliable for every site.

The image stops at the visible window: That is the scope of the basic current-window screenshot operation; it is not proof of full-page stitching. Use an approach specifically intended for full-page capture if that is required.
When asking for help, include the complete exception text, Selenium version, Chrome version, any standalone ChromeDriver version, and whether a proxy or network policy restricts downloads. The exact script above has not been independently tested on Windows 11.
