To capture a website when someone submits an n8n form, connect an n8n Form Trigger to an HTTP Request node that sends the submitted URL to a screenshot API, then route the returned image to a storage or delivery step. The form submission starts the workflow; the screenshot API does the browser capture.
Build the workflow: form, screenshot request, and destination
1. Collect the URL with a Form Trigger
Add an n8n Form Trigger node and create a field for the website URL. The node generates a form page and starts the workflow when a user submits it. The submitted value becomes data on the workflow item for the next node. See n8n’s Form Trigger documentation for the current configuration and form behavior.
Use a URL field where available, and consider validating the value before sending it to a capture service. If the form is exposed to the public, restrict submissions to the destinations your workflow is meant to capture; do not treat an arbitrary submitted URL as trusted input.
2. Send the submitted URL to Browserless
Add an HTTP Request node after the Form Trigger. Browserless documents an n8n HTTP Request integration and a screenshot API that accepts a POST request containing a URL and screenshot options. The API requires a token and responds with image data. Follow the current Browserless setup at Browserless’s n8n integration guide and its Screenshot API documentation.

Configure the request for the Browserless screenshot endpoint shown in its current API documentation, use POST, and map the URL field from the incoming form item into the request body. The precise expression depends on the field name and item shape in your workflow. In the n8n editor, inspect the Form Trigger’s test output, then select the corresponding value in the HTTP Request expression editor rather than assuming a field path.
Save the Browserless token in n8n credentials and select that credential in the HTTP Request node. Do not paste a live secret into a public form, workflow export, example, or screenshot. Configure the request body with the desired screenshot settings supported by Browserless; use the API page for the exact current parameter names and endpoint requirements.

3. Choose the output and connect a destination
Decide how the resulting image will be used before choosing its representation. Browserless supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP screenshot output, along with options such as full-page capture. Its n8n guide shows both image-buffer and base64 approaches. Use a binary/image response when the next node accepts file data; use base64 only when the receiving step expects encoded text, and convert or map it as that destination requires.
- Viewport or full page: Use a viewport capture when the visible screen is enough; enable full-page capture when the complete document is needed. The screenshot API’s options determine the extent.
- Format: PNG is suitable when lossless detail matters; JPEG or WebP may suit workflows that accept those formats. Confirm the downstream service supports the selected format.
- Destination: Add an explicit next node to save the binary image to a file or cloud-storage service, or to send it through a later notification/delivery step. The screenshot request alone does not choose or configure a universal storage location.
Test the form, then publish it for live submissions
- In the Form Trigger, use its Test URL while building. Submit a sample URL and execute the node or workflow so the editor receives test data.
- Inspect the Form Trigger output and verify the submitted URL field. Use that actual field in the HTTP Request mapping.
- Run the screenshot request and check that the response representation matches what the destination node expects. Then execute the save or delivery step and verify the resulting image there.
- When the workflow is ready for users, switch to the Form Trigger’s Production URL, save the workflow, and publish it. Test and production use different URLs and modes; live production submissions do not appear in the editor in the same way as test submissions.
For an immediate result on the form page, choose the Form Trigger’s submission-ending behavior deliberately. n8n documents configurable form submission endings; select the behavior that fits whether users should see a completion message or another response after submitting.

Secure and reliable URL capture
Keep credentials private
Use n8n credentials for the Browserless token, as recommended in its integration guide. Limit who can edit the workflow and inspect credentials, and avoid including secrets in data sent back to the form submitter.
Validate destinations
A public URL field can be abused to make a workflow request unintended sites or internal addresses. Validate the scheme and hostname against the destinations the workflow is intended to capture, and reject malformed or disallowed inputs before the HTTP Request node. This is a prudent workflow design choice; the cited product documentation does not establish a built-in URL allowlist.

Plan for downstream failures
A successful form submission does not guarantee that the target page loads or that the destination accepts the image. During testing, check the HTTP Request node’s status and response, then inspect the downstream storage or delivery node separately. Decide what the submitter should see if capture or saving fails rather than implying that a submitted form always produces a stored screenshot.
Troubleshooting common problems
- The screenshot request receives an empty or wrong URL: Inspect the Form Trigger’s test output and correct the HTTP Request expression to reference the submitted URL field that actually appears there.
- Authentication fails: Confirm the selected n8n credential contains the correct Browserless token and is attached using the method required by the current Screenshot API documentation. Do not hard-code the token in a request body copied into a public example.
- The API returns an error instead of an image: Check the endpoint, POST method, request-body structure, URL value, and screenshot option names against Browserless’s current API reference.
- The next node cannot save the response: Check whether the HTTP Request response is configured as binary/image data or base64, then map that exact property into the destination node. The two representations are not interchangeable without the receiving node’s expected input.
- The form works in testing but not for users: Make sure users have the Production URL, not the Test URL, and that the workflow has been saved and published.
- The form appears to finish without showing an image: A screenshot is not automatically displayed or stored by the capture call. Add a destination or delivery step and configure the form’s submission-ending behavior for the response users should receive.
