There is no universal banner selector or consent cookie: inspect the target site and make the choice your test is meant to document.
Use the real cookie-banner control
Cookie banners are implemented by individual sites, so their wording, markup, timing, and behavior vary. Inspect the page and identify the control that matches the outcome you need to capture: for example, “Reject all,” “Accept all,” or a settings option. Do not assume acceptance is always the right choice, and do not treat hiding the banner as proof that a choice was made.
Selenium can locate elements by ID, name, XPath, CSS selector, class, tag, or link text. Prefer a locator grounded in the actual accessible label or a stable site attribute rather than guessing a generic selector. See Selenium’s element interaction documentation.
Python example: choose, verify, and capture
The following pattern clicks a verified button, waits for a verified banner to become invisible, and saves a PNG of the current browser window. Replace both example selectors with ones confirmed on the target site.

If the intended choice is acceptance, settings, or another option, locate and click that real control instead. The post-choice condition is also site-specific: banner invisibility may be suitable when the banner closes, but another observable change may better prove the state you want. Selenium’s waits documentation covers synchronization with changing page state.
Make the capture dimensions repeatable
save_screenshot captures the current window. For consistent runs, set the browser window size deliberately before capturing and keep it the same between runs. Selenium’s Python WebDriver 4.50.0 API documents screenshot saving and window sizing.
Handle banners inside an iframe
If inspection shows that the consent interface is inside an iframe, switch into that frame before locating or clicking its control. After the interaction, switch back to the default document context before looking for page-level state or taking the screenshot.

Click the UI or preload a cookie?

Selenium exposes cookie operations, but its API does not define a portable consent policy. Its documentation notes that a cookie must be added while the browser is on a domain for which that cookie is valid. Do not guess cookie values or assume setting one is equivalent to clicking a choice unless the site’s behavior establishes that equivalence. See Selenium’s cookie documentation.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect captures
- Element not found: Confirm the banner is present, inspect its actual DOM, and check whether it is inside an iframe. Then use a locator matching the real control in the correct browsing context.
- The control appears late: Wait for the control to become available or for a meaningful page state. A completed navigation does not guarantee the consent interface is ready.
- The screenshot still shows the banner: Confirm the intended choice was clicked and wait for the site’s actual post-choice condition before capture. The screenshot records the browser state at capture time.
- Screenshot dimensions vary: Set the browser window size explicitly and keep it consistent across runs.
- The choice does not persist: Check the site’s own consent implementation and session or domain behavior. Selenium cookie APIs provide low-level cookie access, not site-specific consent semantics.
- No reliable completion signal is available: Choose another observable, site-specific condition. If none reliably establishes the state, record that limitation rather than assuming the choice succeeded.

Can I click a consent button inside an iframe?
Yes. Switch to the iframe before locating and clicking the control, then return to the default document context.
Does saving a consent cookie always mean the same thing as choosing on the banner?
No. Cookie names, values, domains, and semantics are site-specific; use preloading only when the target’s implementation is known and the test intends to set that state.
