This saves the element inside the iframe—not a screenshot of the whole page.
Capture an element inside an iframe
For example, this captures the Submit button inside the iframe identified by #my-iframe:

Use a CSS selector for the iframe and target
If the element you want has a useful CSS selector, chain locator() after frameLocator():

Start from an existing iframe Locator
If you already have a Locator for the iframe, convert it to a FrameLocator with contentFrame():

Make the iframe selector unambiguous
FrameLocators are strict: an operation can throw if its iframe selector matches more than one element. Prefer an iframe selector tied to stable page markup, such as a meaningful name or a unique ID. If several candidates are expected, narrow the iframe Locator deliberately before converting it with contentFrame():

Choose an element screenshot or a page screenshot

Use page.screenshot() when the intended output is the page; use a Locator’s screenshot() when the intended output is one element. Playwright documents both approaches in its screenshot guide and Page API.
Stabilize an animated element before capture
If the target moves or changes during capture, disable animations in the Locator screenshot options:

Troubleshoot common failures
The locator cannot find the target
- Check that the selector identifies the iframe on the page, then check that the inner selector identifies an element inside that iframe.
- Make sure you are using
frameLocator()for iframe content; ordinary page locators target the main frame by default.
The operation reports a strict-mode violation
The iframe selector matched multiple iframes. Narrow it using a stable distinguishing attribute or, if the page structure supports it, choose the intended iframe with .first() or .nth(index) before calling contentFrame(). Do not rely on an arbitrary index.

The saved image shows more than the desired element
Check that the final call to screenshot() is on the locator for the inner element. Calling page.screenshot() captures the page instead.
The capture looks inconsistent
For an animated target, use animations: 'disabled'. Also check that your selectors identify the intended iframe and element rather than a different match.

Clarify if you mean a video frame
“Frame” might also mean an image from a video at a specific timestamp. The Playwright references linked above establish the iframe and screenshot workflows, but not a video-seeking procedure. The iframe examples here therefore apply when the target is content embedded in an iframe, not a particular moment in a video.
