For an iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation), set a portrait viewport to 375 × 667 CSS pixels. For the 1st-generation, 4-inch iPhone SE, use 320 × 568 CSS pixels. In Chrome DevTools, select Responsive mode, enter the dimensions, set device pixel ratio to 2 if you want the corresponding high-density output, then capture the visible viewport. These sizes describe the page viewport, not every detail of a real iPhone display.
Choose the right iPhone SE viewport
“iPhone SE” can mean two materially different screen sizes. Apple lists the 2nd- and 3rd-generation 4.7-inch model at 375 × 667 points, or 750 × 1334 pixels at 2×. The 1st-generation 4-inch model is 320 × 568 points, or 640 × 1136 pixels at 2×. For a responsive website, enter the point dimensions as the CSS viewport dimensions.
| Target | CSS viewport, portrait | Listed device pixels at 2× |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation), 4.7-inch | 375 × 667 | 750 × 1334 |
| iPhone SE (1st generation), 4-inch | 320 × 568 | 640 × 1136 |
Apple’s current Human Interface Guidelines layout guidance gives these dimensions; its App Store screenshot specifications also distinguish the 4.7-inch and 4-inch SE generations. If you do not know which generation your target audience uses, test both sizes or state which one your screenshot represents.
Capture the viewport in Chrome DevTools
- Open the target page in Chrome, then open DevTools.
- Turn on the Device Toolbar and select Responsive.
- Enter 375 for width and 667 for height for the 2nd/3rd-generation size, or 320 and 568 for the 1st-generation size.
- If you want the screenshot raster to correspond to the listed 2× device-pixel dimensions, set the device pixel ratio to 2.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu and choose Capture screenshot. This captures the visible viewport.
Chrome’s Device Mode documentation describes custom viewport simulation and screenshot capture. Device Mode simulates a mobile experience on desktop; it does not run the page on an actual iPhone.

Capture or inspect the page in Safari
- In Safari on a Mac, enable web developer features if needed, then focus the page you want to inspect.
- Choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode (Control-Command-R).
- Edit the viewport width and height to the relevant SE dimensions. Set the pixel ratio as needed for the output.
- Capture the displayed viewport using the Mac screenshot method appropriate to your deliverable.
Apple’s Responsive Design Mode documentation explains how to edit viewport dimensions and pixel ratio. Safari offers resizing and pixel-ratio controls, but its device presets approximate device sizes rather than reproducing every actual-device condition.
Understand CSS pixels and screenshot pixels
The CSS viewport controls responsive layout: media queries and other styles respond to its width and height. Device pixel ratio affects high-density rendering and the screenshot’s raster dimensions. For example, 375 × 667 CSS pixels at a ratio of 2 corresponds to a 750 × 1334 pixel raster when the capture tool preserves that scale. Capture modes may include browser or simulator chrome, so inspect the resulting image dimensions and crop only if the deliverable requires it.

What emulation can and cannot verify
Desktop browser emulation is useful for checking breakpoints, content flow, and many CSS layout issues. It cannot guarantee identical rendering or behavior on a physical iPhone: browser chrome, keyboards, form controls, and other device-specific details can affect the page. Apple describes Responsive Design Mode as a way to test media queries and recommends Simulator when closer device-specific checking is needed; Chrome likewise characterizes Device Mode as simulation. See Apple’s guidance and Chrome’s Device Mode documentation.
For higher-fidelity verification, open the site in an iOS Simulator or on the target phone and capture there. Apple’s iPhone screenshot instructions cover device screenshots, including Full Page capture for an entire Safari webpage. A full-page image is different from a screenshot limited to the visible 667- or 568-pixel viewport.

Troubleshoot unexpected sizing or output
- The layout looks too narrow or scaled: check the document’s viewport declaration. Apple’s archived Safari guidance recommends
width=device-widthfor iOS web applications and discusses its effect on initial scale and viewport sizing. Because that guidance is archived, verify behavior in the browser versions you support: Configuring the Viewport. - The screenshot has the wrong proportions: confirm you entered the intended generation’s width and height, and check whether the tool added browser or simulator chrome.
- The layout is right but the image is not 750 × 1334 or 640 × 1136: confirm the device pixel ratio is 2 and check whether the capture method scales, crops, or includes interface chrome.
- The page differs from a real iPhone: treat the emulated image as a layout check, then verify on Simulator or the target phone if the difference matters.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can return a website screenshot through one GET request. Set the viewport to the SE dimensions you need; for the 2nd/3rd-generation size, the request below uses 375 × 667. The API also supports device pixel ratio. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.
