Set the viewport before opening the page, then save the screenshot with page.screenshot(). For example, this captures a 1280 × 720 viewport as a PNG:

Use page.setViewport({ width, height }) with dimensions in CSS pixels. Set it before navigation so the site can render at the intended responsive breakpoint from the start. Puppeteer’s viewport guide also notes that changing mobile or touch settings can reload a page in some cases. Puppeteer: Page.setViewport()

browser.newPage(). - Set the desired width and height, optionally including
deviceScaleFactor. - Navigate to the URL.
- Call
page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' }).

Choose viewport, full-page, or clipped output
A standard screenshot captures the visible viewport. Set fullPage: true to include the whole document, or use clip to capture a particular rectangle. These options change the output extent; they do not change the viewport dimensions used to render the page. Puppeteer: ScreenshotOptions

width and height set the layout viewport in CSS pixels. deviceScaleFactor controls the device pixel ratio and therefore can affect the screenshot’s pixel dimensions and sharpness. Use 1 for a straightforward one-to-one capture; use a higher value when you need a denser image.

Puppeteer infers the screenshot format from the file extension when possible. PNG is the default when no type is specified. To request another supported output type, specify type; the screenshot options also include controls such as quality for applicable formats and omitBackground for transparency. If you omit path, the API returns image data rather than saving a file to disk. See the ScreenshotOptions reference and Page.screenshot() reference.
Why set the viewport before navigation?
Responsive sites may select layouts, load assets, or run scripts based on the viewport. Setting dimensions first gives the page those conditions during its initial load. Puppeteer documents that setting a viewport can trigger a reload in some cases when changing isMobile or hasTouch; avoid changing those settings mid-page unless that behavior is acceptable. Page.setViewport()

Puppeteer documents an 800 × 600 default viewport for pages configured through ConnectOptions. Defaults can depend on how the page or browser connection is created, so set the dimensions explicitly when the screenshot must be reproducible. ConnectOptions
Troubleshoot common viewport screenshot problems
- The layout has the wrong breakpoint: Call
setViewport()beforegoto(), and check that width and height are the intended CSS-pixel values. - The screenshot was not written to disk: Pass a
pathtopage.screenshot(). Without it, Puppeteer returns the image data instead. - The screenshot is taller than the requested viewport: Check for
fullPage: true. Remove it for a viewport-only capture. - The capture contains the wrong part of the page: Remove or correct the
cliprectangle; its coordinates and dimensions define the region captured. - The image pixel dimensions are larger than expected: Check
deviceScaleFactor. The viewport remains defined in CSS pixels, while the device pixel ratio affects rendered pixel density. - The page appears to reload after a viewport change: Set mobile or touch options before navigation where possible; Puppeteer documents reload behavior for some changes to
isMobileorhasTouch.
