Take a screenshot at 360 CSS pixels wide
This runnable Node.js example opens a URL in Chromium, sets a 360-by-800 CSS-pixel viewport, and saves the visible viewport as a PNG. It uses a device scale factor of 1 and enables mobile and touch signals; these are explicit test choices, not universal settings for Indian users.

})();Install Puppeteer in your project with npm install puppeteer, save the script as screenshot.js, and run node screenshot.js https://example.com. Replace the example URL with your site. The viewport dimensions are CSS pixels; with deviceScaleFactor: 1, the screenshot’s pixel dimensions correspond to that scale. A different device scale factor changes raster output without changing the CSS viewport width.
The official Puppeteer Page.setViewport() documentation recommends setting the viewport before navigation. Changing mobile or touch properties can reload the page in some cases, so configure them first for a predictable capture.

Choose the capture and emulation settings deliberately
Viewport width and height
Keep width: 360 for this specific check. Height is a separate choice: 800 is only an example. Use a height relevant to the layout you want to inspect, and keep it fixed across runs when comparing screenshots.
Device scale factor and mobile behavior
deviceScaleFactor controls the relationship between CSS pixels and rendered device pixels. isMobile and hasTouch enable mobile-related behavior; a site may also vary behavior by user agent. Change one setting at a time if you are diagnosing a layout difference, and record the values alongside the screenshot.

Puppeteer’s Page.emulate() API applies a named device’s metrics and user agent as a shortcut for setting those properties. Emulate before navigation. For an exact 360 CSS-pixel width, explicitly setting the viewport as in the example makes the width unambiguous; a named profile is useful when you want its broader device characteristics.
Viewport screenshot or full page
The example captures the current viewport. To capture the full page instead, use await page.screenshot({ path: 'mobile-360-full.png', fullPage: true });. A full-page image is useful for inspecting content below the fold, while a viewport capture shows only what fits in the chosen height. Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() documentation describes the configurable capture options.

Make the test relevant to an India-facing experience
A 360px viewport checks one width in Chromium; it does not represent the range of devices, browsers, languages, locations, or network conditions across India. No representative Indian viewport width is established by the cited browser documentation, so do not treat 360px as a national standard.
- Locale and language: test the languages and locale settings your site actually supports, particularly if text length, date formatting, or currency changes layout.
- Location and time zone: simulate locations and time zones relevant to the product when content depends on them. Chrome DevTools can override geolocation and simulate orientation and other sensor states.
- Network and CPU: test throttled conditions if loading behavior matters. Chrome DevTools Device Mode supports network and CPU throttling alongside viewport simulation.
- Real devices: use browser emulation for repeatable layout checks, then verify important hardware-dependent behavior on actual devices. Google describes Device Mode as a “first-order approximation” of how a page looks and feels on a mobile device; it is not a real phone.

Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
- The page appears desktop-sized: confirm that
setViewport()runs beforegoto()and that the width is the numeric value360. If the site changes behavior based on mobile signals, checkisMobile,hasTouch, and user-agent behavior. - The screenshot is too short or too tall: adjust
heightfor a viewport capture. For content beyond the viewport, setfullPage: true. - The page is blank or incomplete: inspect the navigation result and browser errors, and verify that the URL is reachable. Network-idle waits may not settle on sites that keep connections open; choose a suitable navigation wait condition and, if needed, wait for a specific page element before capture.
- The capture times out: the example allows 60 seconds for navigation. Check site availability and network access, then choose a wait condition appropriate to the page rather than assuming every site becomes network-idle.
- Images or content appear after capture: a page may load content lazily or after interaction. Scroll or wait for the relevant content before capturing, or target a selector whose visibility indicates the page is ready.
- The image dimensions differ from expectations: distinguish CSS viewport dimensions from output pixels and check
deviceScaleFactor. Keep the scale factor fixed when comparing captures.
