A long screenshot captures an entire webpage, including content below the visible browser window, in one image. Use your browser’s built-in full-page command first: Firefox offers Save full page, Chrome offers Capture a full size screenshot in DevTools Device Mode, and Edge offers Capture full page from its Screenshot tool. Menu names can vary with browser version, device, market and page type.
What a long screenshot captures
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible on screen. A full-page, scrolling or long screenshot extends the capture through the document below the fold. It is useful for design review, bug reports, documentation, archiving an article, or sharing a complete receipt or form without stitching separate images together.
Choose the capture scope that matches the job:
- Full page: the complete document, including content below the viewport.
- Visible area: only what is currently displayed.
- Region: a rectangle you select.
- Element: one page element, such as a table or card, usually from developer tools.
Let the page finish rendering before capturing. Dynamic content, lazy-loaded images, nested scrolling areas and virtualized lists may not appear completely in a browser-native image. The steps below are documented workflows; browser vendors do not guarantee identical results on every page.
Firefox: save the full page
Mozilla’s Firefox Help documents both visible and full-page screenshots. The wording below applies to current desktop Firefox installations, although labels can change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute#1 Best Overall
- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
- Open the webpage and wait for its content to load.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot interface, select Save full page.
- Save the resulting image, or use the available copy option if you only need it on the clipboard.
Firefox also provides Save visible and controls for a selected region or automatically detected page part. Mozilla describes the feature this way: “You can take screenshots to capture visible parts of web pages, or even full web pages, and copy or save these images.”
Capture one element in Firefox Developer Tools
For a developer workflow, open Developer Tools, enable the toolbox button named Take a screenshot of the entire page in settings, or use the Inspector’s Screenshot Node command for a selected element. This is useful when the document is long but the object you need is a single component.
Chrome: use DevTools Device Mode
Chrome’s documented full-page route is in DevTools rather than the ordinary page context menu.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux/ChromeOS or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Turn on Device Mode by selecting the phone/tablet icon in the DevTools toolbar.
- Open the Device Mode More options menu (the three-dot menu in the device toolbar).
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
Chrome saves the capture using the browser’s normal download behavior. The exact placement of the menu can move between Chrome releases, so read the current label rather than relying on an older tutorial.
Use the Command Menu when you cannot find a control
Open DevTools’ Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux/ChromeOS or Command+Shift+P on macOS, then search for screenshot commands. The Device Mode Capture a full size screenshot command remains the direct documented route for a whole page.

Edge: capture a full page from Screenshot
Microsoft Edge documents a Screenshot tool that can capture an entire webpage, a selected area, and markup.
- Open the page in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Review any markup tools, then save or copy the result.
Microsoft notes that Screenshot functionality can vary by device type, market and browser version. If the shortcut or option is missing, open Edge’s menus and search for Screenshot, then check that the browser is up to date.
Which browser method should you choose?
| Browser | Full-page path | Useful alternative | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Right-click page → Take Screenshot → Save full page | Ctrl+Shift+S or Command+Shift+S; Developer Tools Screenshot Node | Options and labels depend on the installed version. |
| Chrome | DevTools → Device Mode → More options → Capture a full size screenshot | DevTools Command Menu for finding screenshot commands | The documented source is Device Mode; verify labels in your current release. |
| Edge | Ctrl+Shift+S → Capture full page | Selected-area capture and markup | Availability and functionality can vary by device, market and version. |
For a one-off capture, use the browser already open. Start with native tools because they require no additional software. Use an extension only when you repeatedly capture pages or need workflow features your browser lacks. GoFullPage is an example of a full-page screenshot extension listed in the Chrome Web Store; its listing establishes the extension’s existence, not a guarantee that it works on every page or an endorsement.

How to get a complete, readable result
Prepare the page
- Wait for fonts, images and interactive sections to finish loading.
- Expand accordions or tabs whose content must appear in the image.
- Scroll through the page once when lazy-loaded sections are important, then return to the top and capture.
- Close transient menus, browser popups and dialogs that would obscure content.
Choose the right scope
Use full page for a document. Use a selected region when you need to exclude navigation or unrelated content. Use an element capture for a component whose boundaries matter more than the page around it.
Check the output
Open the saved image at 100% zoom. Look for repeated headers, missing images, blank sections, clipped fixed-position elements and unreadably small text. A very tall image may be difficult to share or print; in that case, capture logical sections or create a PDF instead.

If the screenshot is incomplete
There is no universal browser fix for every dynamic or unusually long page. Use this cautious sequence:
- Wait until the page finishes rendering and try again.
- Reload the page, dismiss overlays and repeat the native command.
- For Chrome, try the DevTools Device Mode workflow even if a shortcut or extension failed.
- Try the equivalent native workflow in another browser.
- If only one component is missing, capture that element separately with Developer Tools.
Nested scroll containers and virtualized interfaces may show only the items currently rendered. A page can also change while it is being captured, so compare the image with the live document before treating it as an exact archive.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It loads the page, accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor, and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed; the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
Read the parameter reference in the ScreenshotNeo documentation before production use. A basic cURL request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
const data = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
ScreenshotNeo also supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper sizes and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector or network-idle waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Troubleshooting checklist
The full-page option is missing
Confirm that you are using the desktop browser workflow and that the browser is current. In Firefox, invoke Take Screenshot from an empty page area. In Chrome, open DevTools and Device Mode first. In Edge, try Ctrl+Shift+S and look for Screenshot in the browser menus.
The image stops before the bottom
Wait for loading, scroll through lazy sections, then retry. If the result remains incomplete, use another browser’s native workflow or capture the missing element separately. This is practical troubleshooting, not a guaranteed remedy.
Images or text are missing
Check whether the content appears only after an interaction, depends on a nested scroller, or is replaced by virtualization. Expand the relevant section, scroll its container, and capture again. For sensitive pages, verify that your browser session still has the required login or permissions.
The result is too tall to use
Capture sections or elements instead of the entire document, or choose PDF output when the recipient needs a printable record. A full-page image preserves one continuous canvas but is not automatically the most readable format.

Can I capture an entire webpage without manually scrolling?
Yes. The browser’s full-page command automates the capture beyond the visible viewport. You still need to review the output for dynamic or lazily rendered content.
Does a full-page screenshot always include content inside a nested scroll box?
Not necessarily. Browser documentation does not guarantee identical results for nested scrolling regions or virtualized content. Capture that component separately if it is essential.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a long screenshot the same as a scrolling screenshot?
Usually. Both terms generally mean one capture that extends below the visible browser viewport; browser menus normally call it a full-page or full-size screenshot.

Use the format your browser offers and that your recipient can open. For very long documents, separate images or a PDF may be easier to read than one exceptionally tall bitmap.
