To capture a long webpage, prepare the interactive state you want first, then use your browser’s full-page screenshot tool. Firefox offers a direct “Save full page” flow; in Chrome, use DevTools’ Command Menu and search for its screenshot options. Open or load any content that must appear, then inspect the saved image: a full-page capture does not necessarily include hidden, lazy-loaded, or virtualized content.
Prepare the page before capturing it
- Open the page at the desktop or mobile viewport you want represented, then let its initial layout settle.
- Dismiss overlays you do not want in the screenshot. Open any menu, panel, or other interactive state that you do want included.
- Scroll through sections that load only when they enter view, and wait for images or delayed content to render.
- Capture the page using one of the browser methods below, then inspect the image for blank areas, clipped content, or repeated sticky elements.
A screenshot records a rendered state; it does not recreate a sequence of interactions. If you need to document multiple distinct states, capture each state separately. Content inside nested scroll panels may need to be scrolled independently, and virtualized lists may not expose every item to a full-page capture.
Capture a full page in Firefox
For the quickest method, right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on Mac. In the screenshot interface, choose Save full page, then save or copy the result. Mozilla Support documents this flow; toolbar placement or labels may vary as Firefox changes. Use Firefox DevTools for more control
Firefox DevTools can capture the whole page or a selected element. The console helper :screenshot supports options including --fullpage to capture beyond the current window bounds and --delay to wait before capture—for example, when a temporary menu or hover state needs time to appear. The helper also supports options for copying to the clipboard, device-pixel ratio, and selecting an element. See Mozilla’s Firefox Source Docs on Web Console commands and Taking screenshots.

Capture a full page in Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome and prepare the desired state as described above.
- Open DevTools’ Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on Mac.
- Search the live menu for screenshot commands, then choose the full-page capture option offered by your Chrome version.
- Open and inspect the resulting image, paying particular attention to content loaded on scroll or inside scrollable panels.
Chrome’s DevTools documentation describes full-page capture alongside area, node, and mobile screenshot workflows. Because menu wording can change between versions, searching the Command Menu is more reliable than assuming a particular command label. See Run commands in the Command Menu and Capture screenshots with Chrome DevTools.
Capture one element instead of the whole page
If you need only a component—such as a chart, card, or open dialog—use an element or node screenshot rather than capturing the entire document. Firefox DevTools provides “Screenshot Node,” and Chrome DevTools supports node screenshots. Select the relevant element in DevTools, then use its screenshot action. This is useful when the surrounding page is irrelevant, but it will not document content outside the selected element.

Check the result and troubleshoot missing content
- A section is blank: it may load only when scrolled into view. Return to the page, scroll to that section, wait for it to render, and capture again.
- A menu or hover state is absent: make sure it is open before capture. In Firefox DevTools, try a delay with
:screenshot --delayso a transient state has time to appear. - A sticky header or floating control repeats: the browser may render it at multiple scroll positions. Inspect the result and consider capturing the relevant section or state separately.
- Content in a nested panel is missing: scroll within that panel to expose the required content before capturing. A full-page document capture does not guarantee that every nested scroll area is expanded.
- Some list entries are absent: a virtualized interface may render only the visible items. Scroll through the list to trigger more entries, and use separate captures if necessary. Browser documentation does not promise that every virtualized implementation can be represented in one image.
