To capture an entire webpage in Chrome on Windows 11, open DevTools with F12, press Ctrl+Shift+P, search for screenshot, and choose Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves a PNG containing content below the visible viewport, not just the portion currently on screen.
What “full-page screenshot” means in Chrome
A normal screenshot records the current viewport: the part of the page visible in the browser window. A full-page capture extends beyond that viewport and includes content farther down the document. Chrome’s DevTools documentation describes this as capturing “the whole page including the content that isn’t currently visible in the viewport.” Chrome DevTools documentation
This is different from pressing Windows+Shift+S or opening Snipping Tool. Those Windows tools are useful for a visible region or window, but the Windows Central walkthrough does not describe them as the scrolling, full-document method. Windows Central’s Chrome screenshot guide
Before you capture
- Use the desktop version of Chrome on Windows 11 and open the exact page you want to archive.
- Wait for important text, images, charts, and other content to load.
- Close overlays you do not want included, such as an open menu or video control panel. Consent banners and other page widgets may still appear unless you dismiss them yourself.
- Keep the page tab active when opening DevTools; the Command Menu shortcut must go to DevTools rather than the webpage’s own search box.
Method 1: Capture the whole page from DevTools
- Open the target page. Navigate to the page in Chrome and allow the material you need to appear.
- Open Developer Tools. Press F12. If that key is unavailable or intercepted by your keyboard, right-click the page and select Inspect, or open Chrome’s Developer Tools from the browser menu. Windows Central documents these Windows alternatives.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu. Click inside the DevTools panel, then press Ctrl+Shift+P. Chrome documents this Windows shortcut for the DevTools Command Menu. See Chrome’s current documentation.
- Filter the commands. Type screenshot. The search narrows the list to screenshot actions.
- Choose the full-size command. Select Capture full size screenshot (Chrome documentation may display the wording as Capture a full size screenshot). This is the command that includes content outside the current viewport.
- Check the downloaded PNG. Chrome saves the capture as a PNG. The sources establish that it is saved or downloaded, but not one universal Windows folder; check your Chrome download location or the download notification.
The resulting image may be unusually tall. Open it in Photos, Paint, an image editor, or your documentation system and verify the top, bottom, and any important sections before sharing it.

Alternative DevTools navigation through the device toolbar
Chrome also exposes screenshot controls from the device toolbar. In DevTools, use the device-toolbar More options menu and choose the full-size screenshot command rather than the viewport-only option. The official device-mode guide documents separate viewport and full-size choices. Chrome’s device-mode documentation is the authority for the label in your release.
For a one-off Windows 11 capture, the Command Menu route is usually easier to find because typing “screenshot” exposes the relevant command directly. Chrome’s labels can change slightly between releases, so follow the meaning of full size if punctuation or the article “a” differs.
When each screenshot method fits

Choose based on page coverage, how many steps you accept, and whether installing an extension is allowed on your computer. No source here establishes that one method is universally more reliable than the others.
Dynamic pages, lazy loading, and capture quality
Full-size capture is designed to include the document beyond the viewport, but a page can change while it is being rendered. Pages that load images, recommendations, comments, or other sections as you scroll deserve extra checking. Inspect the saved image for missing, duplicated, or unexpectedly blank regions. This is a practical verification step, not a guarantee about every site’s JavaScript behavior.

If images are missing
Return to the page, wait for visible images to finish loading, and capture again. If the site only requests an image after interaction or scrolling, trigger that interaction first. Some pages also replace content after a delay; wait until the final state you need is visible before opening the Command Menu.
If a banner or widget covers content
Dismiss the cookie notice, newsletter prompt, chat bubble, or modal before capturing when the page allows it. Otherwise the overlay can be part of the image. The built-in command does not promise automatic removal of these elements.
If the page is extremely tall
Expect a very large PNG. Check that your image viewer can open tall files, and consider a PDF or a service designed for automated captures when you need repeatable processing rather than a single manual image.
Troubleshooting Chrome’s full-size command
The page’s search opens instead of the Command Menu

“Capture full size screenshot” does not appear
Confirm that you typed screenshot in the DevTools Command Menu, not the page. If the command list still differs, use the device toolbar’s More options menu and look for the full-size choice. Chrome UI wording varies by release.
F12 does nothing
Use the page context menu’s Inspect option or Chrome’s menu entry for Developer Tools. On some keyboards, function keys require an Fn modifier; the context-menu route avoids that dependency.
The saved image ends before the bottom of the page
Capture again after the page has finished loading and after any lazy content has appeared. Check whether the page uses a nested scroll area: content inside a separately scrolling panel may not be part of the document’s main full-size image. If the site changes while capturing, save the image and compare it with the live page.
The screenshot contains a blank section or a duplicated block
Dynamic rendering may have changed during capture. Reload the page, wait for its final state, and retry. There is no documented promise that every highly dynamic page will render exactly as a user expects.

You cannot find the download
Chrome saves the image, but the cited instructions do not establish a universal Windows destination. Check Chrome’s download notification and the download location configured in Chrome settings rather than assuming a particular folder.
