You do not need to reset a trusted key for every tour: YouTube supports reusing a custom stream key.
Before changing a property-tour stream key
A YouTube stream key is a credential the encoder uses to send a video feed to YouTube. YouTube describes stream keys as like a stream’s “password and address” (YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings). Treat it as sensitive: do not publish it in a tour listing, share it in a public chat, or send it casually. Use delegated channel permissions rather than sharing a Google Account password.
Confirm the channel and your access
Open YouTube Studio for the branded property-tour channel that owns the scheduled event. Check the channel name before changing anything, especially if you manage multiple properties or channels. YouTube says only channel owners and managers can reset a stream key. A Manager can manage live streams; Editors cannot reset or delete keys, and Viewers cannot see the key under channel permissions (YouTube Help: Manage channel permissions).
YouTube’s guidance for Brand Accounts is to manage access through channel permissions. If the appropriate person cannot see the key or reset option, confirm that channel permissions and role are correct rather than asking them to use another person’s login.

Should you reuse the key or reset it?

| Reuse a custom stream key | The key remains trusted and the team wants a stable credential for repeat broadcasts. | YouTube says a custom stream key can be reused. The “Reuse settings” option carries forward the previous stream’s key and other settings, so verify the destination stream and metadata. |
| Reset the stream key | The key may have been exposed, or the channel intentionally needs a replacement credential. | YouTube generates a new key. Copy it into the encoder before sending the feed to YouTube. |
Resetting and reusing are different actions. A key replacement is not a routine requirement for every property tour. YouTube’s instructions explain how to reset a key and update an encoder, but they do not promise a seamless or interruption-free handoff.
How do I reset a YouTube stream key?

In YouTube Studio for the correct channel, choose Create, then Go live to open Live Control Room.

Select Stream. In the Stream key section, choose Reset beside the hidden key.

Copy the newly generated key and keep it private. YouTube identifies a compromised key as one reason to reset it (Manage live stream settings).

Where do I enter my YouTube stream key in my encoder?
Open the stream settings in the encoder configured for the property-tour broadcast and replace its current Stream Key value with the new key. Encoder menus differ, and the channel’s encoder is not specified here, so use that product’s own instructions to find the stream settings rather than following menu labels for a different application.
If the encoder asks for a server or ingestion URL as well as a key, verify the URL against the stream’s YouTube settings. YouTube’s general encoder workflow uses the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings (YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming). Do not assume the key alone is the only field to check.

Verify the scheduled broadcast before going live

Save the encoder’s updated stream settings, then start sending its feed to YouTube.

In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming stream preview to appear. Check that the preview shows the intended tour feed.

For a scheduled event, click Go live only when the preview is present and the operator is ready to begin.

Test before the event and monitor stream health during the broadcast, as YouTube recommends (YouTube Help: Fix live stream problems).
A reset followed by an encoder update is a credential change, not a guaranteed no-downtime cutover. Allow time before the scheduled tour to check the preview and resolve any connection issue.

The reset option is missing: Check that you are in the right channel and that your role is Owner or Manager. An Editor or Viewer does not have the necessary key access.

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the new key was copied completely into the encoder’s Stream Key field. If the encoder also uses a server URL, check it against the YouTube stream settings.

The key seems to have changed during setup: Confirm whether you selected Reset or Reuse settings. Reset generates a replacement; Reuse settings carries forward the previous key and other settings.

The preview is not ready near the event time: Do not click Go live just to meet the schedule. Check the encoder’s key and server settings, confirm that it is sending a feed, and allow time to test the connection.
