To switch the on-screen category—for example, from kitchen products to beauty products—create a separate OBS scene for each segment and transition between scenes while live. To change the products viewers can browse or buy, use the Shopping controls in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and pin the relevant product. These are separate controls: switching an OBS scene does not automatically change YouTube’s product tags or pinned product.
First, identify what “product category” means

OBS’s Media Source playlist is a playback feature. It does not control YouTube’s Shopping shelf, product ordering, or pinned product.
Switch the on-screen category in OBS
Set up one scene for each segment
- In OBS, use the Scenes dock to create a scene for each category. Give them clear names such as “Kitchen,” “Beauty,” and “Tech.” A scene is a layout; its sources can include a camera, capture device, image, text, browser page, or media.
- Add and arrange the sources for each layout. For example, use an image or text source for the category title or product name, and a camera or capture source for the product demonstration.
- Choose a transition style and duration before the show. OBS includes built-in Cut and Fade transitions, with additional options available through the scene-transition controls.
Preview and take the next scene live
- For a controlled handoff, enable Studio Mode. OBS shows the current live scene on the right and the editable preview scene on the left.
- Select the next category scene in Preview and check its sources and framing.
- Click Transition, use a Quick Transition, or trigger a configured hotkey to take that scene live.
Rehearse the handoff before going live so you can confirm the right scene and transition are selected. OBS’s overview guide explains the Studio Mode layout: OBS Studio Overview Guide.
Change or pin products in YouTube Live
Check eligibility and product availability
YouTube Shopping availability depends on channel eligibility and, for products from other brands, program eligibility. Product visibility can also depend on region and shipping. Check the current YouTube Studio interface for your channel before planning a product segment. YouTube’s requirements and availability are described in its YouTube Shopping eligibility guidance and product tagging guidance.

Tag products and pin the one being discussed
- In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled or active stream’s Live Control Room and select the Shopping tab.
- Use the product picker to tag products. The order in the picker is the order shown to viewers.
- Pin the product that matches the current discussion. On desktop, YouTube documents an option to automatically pin multiple tagged products in sequence; the rotation interval is 60 seconds.
- Coordinate the pin with the OBS scene change. Introduce the next segment, switch to its OBS scene, then pin the corresponding product in the Shopping panel. YouTube’s automatic rotation uses a fixed interval, so it may not line up with the timing of your segments.
Make list edits ahead of the stream
Where possible, finish removing or rearranging products at least 30 minutes before the live stream begins. YouTube cautions that product-list updates made during a stream may not be visible to some viewers who are already watching. Its live product-tagging instructions describe both the pinning and update behavior.
Plan a clean category handoff
- Prepare the next OBS scene in Studio Mode Preview.
- Introduce the upcoming product or category so viewers understand the change.
- Transition the prepared scene live.
- In the Live Control Room’s Shopping tab, pin the product that belongs to the segment.
- Check the on-screen presentation and Shopping panel so the video segment and highlighted product match.
If you use automatic product rotation, account for its 60-second interval when planning segment lengths. For a deliberate handoff at a specific moment, pin the product manually instead of assuming the rotation will match.
