To stream Telugu bhajans continuously to YouTube with FFmpeg, prepare recordings you have permission to use, create a YouTube Live stream, feed FFmpeg a playlist that does not run out, and run the encoder on a VPS with monitoring and a restart policy. Use YouTube’s RTMPS address and current encoder settings. A VPS can keep the process running without your home computer, but a supervisor and network do not guarantee a seamless broadcast if the encoder or connection fails.

Before you start: check rights and plan the broadcast

Confirm that you have the rights needed to stream each recording and performance on YouTube. Devotional subject matter does not, by itself, make a particular recording free to use: the underlying composition, sound recording and performance may involve separate rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can result in a replacement image, interruption or termination. If you have a license, check whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s livestream terms and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

  • Make a track inventory and retain permission or license records.
  • Decide whether viewers need one uninterrupted watch page or whether you can run a sequence of shorter broadcasts.
  • Decide how you will preserve recordings if you need an archive; a 24/7 live feed and a saved archive are separate requirements.

Prepare the VPS and media source

Choose a VPS suitable for sustained streaming

Install FFmpeg on a VPS that can sustain your intended outbound stream. Before choosing a provider or plan, verify its current terms for continuous outbound video, data-transfer limits, regional availability and price. Those details vary by provider and plan.

Build a playlist that will not reach the end

Prepare and check the bhajan files before going live. Listen for abrupt cuts, silence, clipping and inconsistent levels; confirm that every file is one you are entitled to stream. Arrange a playlist or looped input that remains available and does not simply end at EOF. FFmpeg supports many input and output formats, but the exact invocation depends on your files and whether you are using a single file, a concat playlist or a static visual. Check the installed version’s FFmpeg command-line documentation for the appropriate input and looping behavior. Do not assume a command suited to one file set will work unchanged for another.

Create the YouTube Live stream and protect its key

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select the stream, following YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings. YouTube may present them as separate fields; an encoder can also use a combined address in the form STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME, where the stream name is the key. See the LiveStreams API documentation.
  3. Keep the key private. Treat it like a password: do not include it in screenshots, tutorials, public repositories or shell history. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room using Manage live stream settings.
  4. Use the RTMPS ingestion address provided in Live Control Room when available. RTMPS is YouTube’s encrypted RTMP option; its documented setup uses the rtmps scheme and port 443. Confirm the endpoint and connection requirements in YouTube’s RTMPS guide.

Set FFmpeg’s output to YouTube’s current encoder guidance

Use the settings YouTube currently publishes for your selected resolution, frame rate and stream type. The common guidance includes H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. YouTube lists frame rates up to 60 fps and, in its advanced settings, stereo audio at 44.1 kHz. Bitrate is resolution-specific: use the range on the current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions page, rather than treating one bitrate as universal.

FFmpeg’s exact arguments depend on your source files, output dimensions and whether you need to encode or can pass through compatible media. The documentation explains how to specify inputs and output URLs, but a generic command is not a verified production configuration for every playlist. Check the documentation for your installed build and validate the chosen settings in YouTube’s Live Control Room before relying on them.

Start, verify and supervise the stream

  1. Start FFmpeg on the VPS with your prepared media source and YouTube RTMPS output. Do not publish a real stream key when sharing a command or log.
  2. In Live Control Room, confirm that YouTube receives the feed, reports a healthy stream and displays the expected audio and video. Check that the static visual, if used, is present and that the audio is audible and at an appropriate level.
  3. Run a controlled restart of the encoder and check that the feed returns as expected. Test what happens after a VPS or network interruption before you depend on the setup.
  4. Use a process supervisor to notice an exited FFmpeg process and restart it, and monitor both the process and YouTube’s incoming stream health. A restart policy can restore a failed process; it is not seamless failover.

FFmpeg’s documented reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, reconnect_on_network_error and reconnect_streamed options concern HTTP protocol behavior. They should not be treated as a universal RTMPS-output recovery mechanism. Check the protocol documentation for the options supported by your installed version.

Choose continuous or shorter broadcasts based on archive needs

YouTube documents a 24/7 broadcast use case, but its encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise of one saved archive for a longer continuous stream. If you need a dependable archive, plan a separate recording workflow or shorter broadcasts and verify current platform behavior.

Broadcast pattern When it fits Archive and operating consideration
One continuous broadcast Viewers need a single uninterrupted watch page. YouTube documents 24/7 broadcasts, but the under-12-hour automatic archive guidance does not promise one archive for a longer stream. Plan separate recording if needed.
Sequence of shorter broadcasts Separate watch pages and planned restarts are acceptable. Streams under 12 hours are described as automatically archived in YouTube’s setup guidance. Schedule and verify the archive behavior for each broadcast.

See YouTube’s documentation on broadcasts and streams and creating a live stream with an encoder.

Troubleshoot common failures

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed

  • Check that the stream URL, RTMPS endpoint and key are copied correctly, and that the encoder is using the expected connection details.
  • Confirm that the VPS can reach the endpoint and that its network permits the required connection. YouTube’s RTMPS documentation specifies the rtmps scheme and port 443.
  • Check the FFmpeg output and Live Control Room status for connection or configuration errors.

The stream stops when a file finishes

The input or playlist may have reached EOF. Check the playlist order and loop behavior against the installed FFmpeg version’s documentation, then test through a full cycle before going live.

The stream does not recover after a disconnect

HTTP input reconnect flags do not establish that RTMPS output will reconnect. Check whether FFmpeg exited, whether the VPS network recovered, and whether your supervisor restarted the process. Confirm in Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving the restarted feed.

The video or audio is unhealthy

Compare the encoder’s codec, CBR mode, resolution-specific bitrate, frame rate and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current recommendations. Check the source files and audio levels, then verify the resulting feed in Live Control Room.
