To stream a recorded Lutheran service continuously on YouTube from a Mac, use OBS as the encoder: add the recording as a Media Source, enable Loop, and connect OBS to a YouTube live stream with its stream URL and key. Keep the Mac awake, powered, online, and OBS running for the stream to continue. For a stream that should not depend on a computer at church staying on, a cloud service is an alternative.
Before you start: check channel access and content rights
Confirm YouTube Live is available
Your YouTube channel must be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. If you have never streamed live before, activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and Get started with live streaming.
Confirm rights for the service and music
Before streaming or leaving a recording available as an archive, confirm that the church has the necessary rights for the recording and everything it contains, including music, readings, and third-party material. Having a copy of a service recording does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it online. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the content provider responsible for necessary rights, including music licensing rights.
Set up OBS to loop a service recording
Install OBS and add the video

Install OBS on the Mac and open it. Create or select a scene for the service stream.

In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, then select the local video file you have permission to stream.

Enable Loop in the Media Source settings. OBS documents this option as replaying the file after playback finishes. The Media Source is available on macOS; see OBS Media Sources.

If you need to cycle through multiple recordings, use OBS’s VLC Video source and configure a playlist with Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed on the Mac for this source.
Check the scene before connecting
Confirm the video fills the canvas as intended and that its audio is audible without clipping. If the recording has long pauses, black frames, or a closing slate, preview those parts too: they will recur when the file loops. Use the actual recording, not a short sample, for a final check.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its encoder settings in Live Control Room. For the exact current screen flow, use YouTube’s live-streaming tips and Manage live stream settings.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube uses the key to identify and accept the encoder’s feed. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who do not need access.

Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview, check the picture and sound, and then start the YouTube broadcast when ready. A private or unlisted test can help verify the setup before a public service, where those visibility options suit your needs.
Choose quality and test the network
Set OBS output to a resolution and frame rate that match the recording and that the Mac’s connection can sustain. YouTube publishes encoder bitrate recommendations by resolution and frame rate in its live encoder settings guide; use the row for your chosen output rather than selecting a bitrate in isolation.

YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. For example, if your chosen stream bitrate is 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream, with additional room if other devices or users share the connection. This is a planning margin, not a guarantee of stable service. YouTube also recommends a reliable connection and testing with representative audio and movement. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test at the intended resolution and bitrate, not only at a lower-quality setting.

Preview the stream in Live Control Room and check audio and video before the broadcast.

Monitor the live output during the service; a clean local preview does not prove the internet connection will remain stable.

A wired connection may help where Wi-Fi is unreliable. A USB-C Ethernet adapter is optional; check that a particular adapter is compatible with your Mac and its ports.
Can you stream 24/7 from a Mac?
Yes, provided the Mac remains available and OBS continues running. A local setup depends on the Mac’s power, sleep settings, network connection, and encoder process. If the Mac sleeps, loses its connection, shuts down, or OBS stops, the stream can be interrupted. Continuous output therefore needs a plan for monitoring and recovery; YouTube and OBS documentation do not promise uninterrupted operation for a particular home or church setup.
Decide whether the channel needs genuinely continuous 24/7 playback or scheduled rebroadcasts. For a local Mac, identify who will notice a failure and restart the stream, and consider how the church will handle archived broadcasts and rights. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded live streams, but the directory description does not establish current pricing, uptime guarantees, or suitability for a particular church.
