To stream recorded customer event highlights continuously on YouTube Live, create an eligible YouTube broadcast and send it a looping encoder feed of recordings you have permission to publish. The encoder can run on a local computer or supported hardware, or you can use a hosted playlist service. First verify the channel, prepare the videos and rights, then connect the encoder to the broadcast using YouTube’s stream URL and key.
What you need before starting
- An eligible channel: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so set it up in advance. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide.
- A looping source: Prepare the recordings and choose a local software encoder, standalone hardware encoder, or hosted playlist service capable of repeating them. YouTube supports encoder ingestion; it does not itself establish that a particular playlist tool will loop correctly.
- Permission to publish: Clear the footage, music, graphics, and other material for this use. Customer appearances can also raise release, contractual, privacy, and local-law questions. Platform eligibility or music clearance alone does not establish that you have permission to publish identifiable customer footage.
- A plan for continuity and archives: Someone must monitor a local setup and handle power, internet, and playback failures. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise a complete archive of a longer continuous stream.
How to set up a continuous YouTube Live feed
1. Enable live streaming and prepare the recordings
Check that the channel is eligible and enable live streaming before the event. Organize the authorized highlights into the sequence you want viewers to see, and verify that their audio and video play correctly. Keep the original files separately if you need a complete copy for editing or records.
2. Choose how to loop the program
With a local software encoder, the computer plays the files and sends the feed to YouTube, so it must remain powered, connected, and functioning. A standalone hardware encoder is another option, but confirm that the particular device supports the playback and loop workflow you need. A hosted playlist service shifts playback to a provider’s infrastructure; check its service terms, privacy and data handling, pricing, and recovery behavior before relying on it.
3. Create the YouTube broadcast and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live broadcast.
- Copy the broadcast’s stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s YouTube or custom-server settings, following the encoder’s instructions. YouTube describes the process as creating a broadcast and connecting an encoder; its guide explains that “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.”
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to connect an encoder to the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and confirm in YouTube’s live control room that the expected feed arrives before you make the broadcast public or start the scheduled event.
YouTube’s encoder guide documents the connection process but does not certify a specific playlist application or guarantee uninterrupted delivery. Check the actual outgoing picture and sound, not just whether the encoder reports that it is connected.

4. Monitor the feed
Confirm that the playlist advances and repeats as intended, that the sound remains audible, and that the visible program is appropriate throughout the cycle. A local setup needs someone able to respond to computer, power, or internet problems. For a hosted setup, understand how you will be notified and what recovery the provider offers rather than assuming a playlist will run without intervention.

Rights, Content ID, and customer privacy
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content remains, it can interrupt or terminate the live stream. If you have licensed material, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and verify allowlisting before you go live.
For customer event footage, separately confirm that your organization has the necessary permission to publish each identifiable person and any confidential or sensitive content. The applicable releases, contracts, privacy obligations, and laws depend on the recording and jurisdiction; check them with the responsible team rather than inferring permission from the fact that footage was recorded at an event.

Plan for replays and separate highlight broadcasts
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Because the guide does not promise that a longer, continuous feed will be archived in full, do not treat a 24/7 stream as your only copy of an important program. Preserve source recordings separately and, if a complete replay matters, arrange shorter broadcasts or separate recordings. See YouTube’s encoder guide.
A continuous feed and a separate broadcast for one interview or other subset event are technically distinct. YouTube’s API documentation describes binding an additional broadcast to the same incoming stream as a 24/7 feed, then completing that additional broadcast without stopping the continuing feed. This can give the subset event its own watch page, but using the API requires implementation work. Details are in Google’s guide to broadcasts and streams.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live broadcast: Check channel verification, live-streaming access, and whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no encoder feed: Confirm that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key for the broadcast, then check that the encoder is running and connected. If the key was exposed or replaced, update the encoder with the current key.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright warning: Identify the matched material and remove or replace content you are not authorized to use. For licensed content, confirm with the rights owner that your channel is on the Content ID allowlist.
- The playlist stops or fails to repeat: Check the playlist order and repeat settings in the encoder or hosted service, then verify playback at the source. YouTube’s encoder documentation does not guarantee the behavior of third-party looping tools.
- You need a full archive of a long-running feed: Do not assume YouTube will archive a stream of 12 hours or more in full. Keep the source files and arrange separate recordings or shorter broadcasts if a complete replay is required.
