You can run the encoder on a computer you maintain or use a cloud service. A continuous loop is possible, but it still needs monitoring and a recovery plan: YouTube’s automatic archive rule applies to streams under 12 hours, not to an indefinitely uninterrupted broadcast.
Choose how the ad loop will run
You need an encoder to turn the prerecorded ads into a live video feed. YouTube describes OBS as free, open-source recording and streaming software, and its encoder page also lists cloud services Gyre for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and Upstream for 24/7 live video streaming. Those listings establish that these tools are relevant options, but do not establish their pricing, uptime, ad-break scheduling, or unattended playlist recovery. Check that the product you choose supports the playout controls your store needs.

Set up the YouTube broadcast and ad playlist
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days, and the user must be at least 16. Check the current rules for your channel before planning a launch.
- Create the broadcast. Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream in Live Control Room. Schedule it if you want a watch page and reminder available in advance; YouTube says scheduling lets you promote the stream and share its URL.
- Connect the encoder. If it offers a YouTube selection, choose that. Otherwise, copy the stream URL into the encoder’s server field and the stream key into its key field. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast on your channel.
- Load and check the ads. Add the files to the encoder’s media playlist or hosted service’s playout system. Confirm the loop order, aspect ratio, audio levels, and transitions, then play each file through from beginning to end. These are production checks; the specific playlist controls vary by product.
- Start and verify. Start sending the feed, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before treating the broadcast as live. Keep a person or alerting process responsible for detecting problems and following the recovery procedure.
Plan for continuous operation and recovery
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is not a promise that one broadcast can remain live indefinitely without intervention. Google’s API documentation models a 24/7 feed as an ongoing live broadcast and explains that other broadcast resources can share its stream; that is not an uptime guarantee. The platform also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key.

- Decide who will respond if the encoder, computer, network, or hosted service stops sending video.
- Test the restart process and confirm whether the service resumes the same broadcast or requires a new one.
- Check the feed after launch and at intervals appropriate to the store’s operating needs; do not assume the loop is working just because the broadcast was initially started.
- For a tool comparison, verify playlist scheduling, restart behavior, monitoring and alerts, supported formats and resolution, and total cost alongside the computer-versus-cloud distinction.
Protect the store and the channel from rights problems
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the feed with a placeholder image and warn you to stop streaming the material; if the match continues, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.
Obtain the necessary rights to every element in each spot, including footage, music, voiceover, and logos. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube advises creators using licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. All live content must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A live-stream restriction cannot be evaded by switching to another channel while it remains active.

Keep store ads distinct from YouTube ad insertions
The prerecorded spots in your program feed are content supplied by the broadcaster; they are not automatically YouTube pre-roll or mid-roll ads. YouTube’s API reference says a channel must be eligible to monetize videos to enable automated ads. Broadcast monetization options, including automatic or scheduled mid-rolls, can be configured through YouTube Studio or the API. Do not describe a store spot as a YouTube ad insertion unless YouTube’s ad system is actually serving it.
